Scratch The Skid Row Reunion
Well, that theory was fun while it lasted. I thought - and so did a lot of other people - that a reunion between Sebastian Bach and the rest of the original members of Skid Row was getting closer. Apparently not.
Skid Row just announced that ZP Theart, formally of Dragonforce, is officially their new singer. He's been performing with the band for quite awhile now.
Rachel Bolan made the announcement from the stage at a recent show and the band is also going to record a new record.
You know, nothing is really impossible anymore and certainly nothing surprises me at this point, but an original Skid Row reunion just doesn't seem in the cards. Never say never, but time is marching on and the guys in the band(s) are not getting any younger. Thoughts?

I also think bkallday is overselling Bach's ability & the Skids without Sebastard.
Last time they played here in Las Vegas, the Skids played "The Joint" at the Hard Rock Hotel... around 3,000 seats.. Bach played a few weeks later, at "The Brooklyn Bowl" , an very nice bowling alley, with a 1000 seat capacity. It was nowhere near full. And a majority of the audience had gotten free tickets. Bach's voioce is nowhere near as good as it was in 1989.
But here's the thing (and this isn't just relating to what BecauseIloveyouIhonestlylove said): Bach's material without Skid Row writing it, and Skid Row's material without Bach singing it come out to roughly a tie nowadays. If you are quibbling about the size of shows, you are going to find some huge variations for both camps dependent on locale, type of show, etc. If you are going to quibble about the sound of each camp, you are getting into a murkier discussion. The band sounds better more consistently than Bach does, even as Bach has started to sound more inconsistent. And the band's new singer, Q*Bert formerly of Dragonfarce, isn't the worst pick of the litter for them, just as Bach's band does a good job.
Which brings me back to a point I made weeks ago: why would anyone wish for a reunion of people who hate each other? And why would anyone think that a diminished singer (though still good occasionally) would be enticing to a band if he has the LSD that led them to get rid of him in the first place? Oh wait. Some people can't wait for Pearcy and Ratt to tour soon.
More to the point of dismissing Bakedpotato's rambling (which is the lesser issue even if I brought it up first): who is it that begs to be back under the guise of what the fan's want (and some fans do), even as he seems to torpedo every slim chance of that happening for him or those fans? In response, from the band? More and more, less and less jabs and simply a desire to move on, cost what may and regardless the sizes of their shows or the units that they sell of their albums. And what does that say about him owning anything or the strong minds that would support him as being _better_ than Skid Row, not just a rough draw or equal? Ugh, you are back to the realm of opinions . . . if but with a fanboy tinge that you so readily dismiss from others when it diverges from your own.
Hmmm . . . I guess passionate opinions don't have to be consistent. Mine aren't. Long live DLR! And Q*Bert. Loved that game back in the day.
Nowadays (and actually back in the day, too), I can have just as good of a time at a Tribute show as seeing the 'real' act, and the shows that I 'really' look forward toward these days are those that I can check off of my bucketlist; hence, Dangerous Toys at M3 this year. BTW, Him...you still planning on attending?
But rather than to experience the drama of a Sabastian solo show or a faux Skid Row show, I am attending the following in the next few months.
Bruce in the USA (Springsteen tribute)
Live/Wire (AC/DC tribute)
Satisfaction (Rolling Stones tribute)
Black Dog (Zeppelin tribute)
Old School (80's tribute)
Starman (Bowie tribute)
Rain (Beatles Tribute)
Yes, I'll have my son in tow. It's a night out for us. A bonding experience for us. Cheaper than the originals (or the fact that many of our originals have passed on-much like DLR, or Tyler or Mick will be, too.) And, when I'm gone, he'll hopefully have positive, fond memories of these events, too. And, that is part of my legacy that I will pass onto him.
But, I haven't given up completely on originals as I am also planning on seeing the following this year: (so far)
Billy Joel
Foreigner/Cheap Trick/Jason Bonham
Def Leappard/Poison/Tesla
Tom Keifer
Now to turn this post inconsistent and make a sudden left turn...I would like to see Metalboy! go after MBJ the way MBJ has been going after KD, PH and VC or rather, the way MB went after me!. I know she is reading the other blogs, too.
When Michelle Obama said, "When they go low, we go high", I remembered something I said to a co-worker back in 2007 when she asked me about how/why I do some of the things I do. I said, 'I go right along with the crowd, up to a point. When they keep going right, I then go left. Watch a Van Halen concert. I saw Dave doing that and thought I'd give it a try".
She responded, "You're very good at doing that."
I try...oh, do I try.
Though, as can be well documented on this site, I have tremendous respect for HIM and Ace, I have to go with BK on this one. And though Skid Row may be a better draw than Bach, it's simply because they play under that banner.
If they did reunite with Bach, the venue's would definitely get bigger, even though it's very clear it will more than likely, NEVER happen.
Now, to respond to something of import to both of us. You will have to report back on how that Testament show was. The last two times I saw them (one at a festival, one opening for our band Slayer) they put on a tremendous show. They are a band that it took me awhile to rediscover. Glad that I did.
Tremendous respect for you (and Ace) as well, Metalboy! I can see your point as well. I just think the overall hype surrounding this has run its course, and that the time when this would have made sense is long past. But that might just be me.
Fletch, the outlook has become cloudier. Both of the pals that I attend these events with aren't likely to have the time off to go. So I might be settling for shows in Vegas and N. and S. California again this year. Thanks for asking.

You wanna start comparing stories?

And I still hope to meet you in Vegas one of these days, Ace.
p.s. I know I probably don't have to mention this as you are the one who videotaped the first Mötley Crüe show, but be sure you video all your reunion shows, Ace!
