Hey, Mr. DJ

So, by an odd coincidence of events I'll be seeing Tommy Lee tonight.

No, he isn't with the Crue and he won't be playing drums (well, maybe he'll play the kit a little). Tommy is on tour with DJ Aero. Both DJs will perform tonight at Hammerjax, a nightclub in Dayton, Ohio.

Tommy plans on spinning something known as "groove electronica."

I am not familiar with groove electronica, plus the show is $25 at the door. That's a lot of cash for some music I doubt I'll like, but I'll pay the piper for a chance to meet Tommy Lee. I want my picture taken with the tattooed nut job and I'd like to ask him about the new Motley Crue album and plans for another tour.

You can hear samples of Tommy Lee's DJ work at www.myspace.com/tommyleetv.

Here's a video of Tommy Lee and DJ Aero performing  together in Dubai.

Tommy Lee is one of my favorite drummers!

I agree with you Axeman. Tommy Lee is a very good drummer (certainly one of the finest in his genre). I didn't have high hopes for him as a DJ and listening to his stuff on myspace shows that my skepticism wasn't misplaced. I've actually grown to like electronic music over the past few years, but this is terrible. The difference between good and bad dance music is usually pretty subtle and Tommy Lee has mastered none of the subtleties that would allow him to succeed in this genre. Allyson, I hope you get to meet him, because I think you might be in for a long night of bad music.

Yeah, I dunno that I would bother. Although, I wish I could say that $25 is a lot to pay for a show. GnR is costing me $150, plus $200 in flights, and it's not even GnR !! If you count flights, Rocklahoma is costing me about $2900....

Yikes...$25.00 for Tommy as a DJ? Thats a lot of coin, even for that. You will have to let us know how it went Allyson.

A few years ago, I would go to (what was at the time) one of the world's premiere electronic dance music venues every Friday and Saturday night, pay $20 at the door, and hear (what was at the time) the world's premiere house and trance DJs spin until 8 or 9 in the morning.

I'm sorry you paid $25 to hear Tommy Lee jump on a bandwagon that reached its commercial peak about seven years ago. I listened to some of his music, and it's painfully clear that he doesn't understand dance music.

Tommy Lee is arguably the best drummer from any glam band, and it's admirable that he wants to try new things. But he suckered you, and everyone else in that club -- whether they were Motley Crue fans or dance music fans. Sorry to hear that someone you admire is willing to screw you for a few bucks and a few moments back in the spotlight.
