Kick?

Ever get on a "kick?"

Recently, I've been listening to a ton of Michael Jackson (for obvious reasons). I'll also go through spurts where I will only listen to Kix or Slipknot or whatever band has my attention at the moment.

Sometimes the "kicks" are prompted by crazy media coverage, as in the case with Jackson. Hearing his music on the news constantly got me interested in him again. Then I decided to read a book (or five) about him as well. It's been all MJ all the time at my house the past couple of weeks (ok, month).

Whenever I get ready for a big show, I'll get on a kick. I have Steel Panther and Crue Fest at the end of this week, so I've been listening to all the bands involved. Before Rocklahoma I listened to way more Saxon than normal...and before Rock on the Range, it was all Alice in Chains, all the time.

Sometimes I find the kicks to be..."comforting." There are days when it is honestly too much to scroll through my iPod and find something I haven't listened to in awhile. And forget about reviewing new bands! On those super exhaustion days, I'll just listen to the same thing as the previous seven days and be content. I am not sure if anyone else does this - but it's definitely part of my DNA to listen to the same album over and over. I mean, how else will I learn every word to every song?

Agreeance?

Last year there was a period of around 2 months in which I listened virtually nothing but Love/Hate. I've only recently come to be able to enjoy them again.. I wouldn't recommend going overkill on your favourite bands. :)

I go through kicks all the time. My current kick is decidedly non-glam, but it coincides with a bunch of punkier bands that I've seen this summer including Rancid, Rise Against, Green Day, Offspring & Dropkick Murphys.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one on the MJ music "kick". I'm more on the Jackson 5 kick but after watching all the News/MEdia coverage this last month it really made me realize how incredible his album catalog really is, sometimes you forget and then it takes something to remind you and then BAM, there goes the kick, you just can't get enough. I go on "kicks" all the time so I completely understand the magnitude of this blog. Most of my kicks usually are after I see someone in concert b/c I genuinely crave MORE!

oh yeah i definitely agree! usually happens when i get new music, i'll listen to nothing but the new cd's. or i'll just need some normalcy so i'll put my favourite albums on my ipod and listen to only them basically. currently on an un-glam Pixies/Sonic Youth kick (Motley kick last week :])

I get on music 'kicks' too, but they are more defined by decade than anything else. Sometimes it's Tesla, Ratt, Poison, Badlands, King's X, etc. from the 80's. Other times it's Alice In Chains, early Pearl Jam (hate the later stuff), Live, and Soundgarden from the 90's.

My most recent kicks were Michael Jackson, Green Day, Mott The Hoople, David Bowie and Starky Starks (a Montreal french rapper hehe). Oh and of course, the year-long kick of Motley Crue. That's a kick that just never ends though! :D
