For Randy Rhoads Fans: A Birthday Celebration

HOLLYWOOD, CA (December 4, 2012) – Come celebrate the Late, Great Randy Rhoads birthday with his family this week at Kathy Rhoads D’Argenzio and her husband Richard D’Argenzio’s wine tasting room in Burbank, Calif.

The Randy Rhoads Birthday Tribute weekend starts Thursday, December 6th and ends Saturday, December 8th – open from 3pm to 9pm daily.  This will be a weekend to remember for all fans and friends alike. You will get to meet the whole Rhoads family, taste the Randy Rhoads wine, and see personal memorabilia that has not been shown for public viewing.

The D’Argenzio winery, has for several years, produced a special wine in the name of Randy Rhoads with all proceeds of this wine going to fund the Randy Rhoads Foundation to assist kids in learning music.

A special note from the Rhoads family:

The Rhoads family wishes to thank you all for all the heartfelt support and love for Randy. We also thank you for keeping his memory alive.

Happy Birthday to my loving son and our dear brother~

Delores Rhoads, Kelle Rhoads and Kathy Rhoads D’Argenzio~

Randy Rhoads is best known for his tour of duty with Ozzy Osbourne and his band, then known as The Blizzard of Ozz. Once Rhoads had officially joined, the band headed into the studio to record their debut album, titled Blizzard of Ozz. Propelled by Rhoads' neo-classical guitar work, the album was an instant hit with rock fans, particularly in the USA. They released two singles from the album: "Mr Crowley" and the hit "Crazy Train".  Rhoads left us March 19th, 1982 in a tragic plane crash leaving us a huge void in music. His legacy of brilliant music will live forever in the hearts of the people – He was a true hero and legend.

Please join us December 6th through December 8th and pay respects to Randy Rhoads and his family for his birthday at the:

From that hotbed (literally) of terroir, close on Napa's tail, I present Burbank's Best Two Buck Randy and, coming soon, Goodbye to Rose and Off the Rails on a Cabernet. I kid on both counts. It is made out of grapes from Sonoma. And it costs 53 bucks.

Seriously though, I loathe a great band or artist (or even a crappy one) shilling some sort of swill. But, and I think I am consistent on this point across older posts regarding these sorts of things: it is nice to see a potentially good bottle of wine (at a pretty high price point) where the proceeds go to a good cause.

It should be noted, however, that the PR and the website don't match up. Where the release says "all" proceeds, the website says only "a generous portion" thereof. How reasonable? Don't know. And don't have time to do further digging.

Worthy cause.

Great clip from 1982. The interview with ozzy shows him sober and lucid. Further evidence of how the tragic death of Randy sent him into a dangerous tailspin.

Him, Since you didn't know & didn't have time to do further digging, you probably should have just said nothing.

Randy's sister, Kathy Rhoads D'Arjenzio put out this particular wine as a tribute to her late brother. It's not something that was done to cash in, or anything like that. I've known Kathy, her brother Kelle, Randy, and their mother, Delores pretty much my entire life. Not one of them has EVER tried to make a dollar off of, or traded on Randy's name.

Ace, I think you are letting your emotions get the better of you. Go back and read what I said. I made some jokes about the tasting room's location and some potential (again, joking) releases. I praised the support of a worthy cause (and this counts as one). I also made note of the merits of the release while also questioning the price point.

My only other issue was to note a difference in what the PR said and what the website said. And I left it at that. I didn't question the family's integrity or the legacy they are using to support a good cause. For all I know, the PR was written by someone miles away from the family or the production of the wine, or maybe it wasn't. I don't know.

If you have information on the how much of the proceeds are distributed to the charity, provide them. And I would be interested. I have some knowledge of what goes into producing a wine (back and front of house). But that wasn't really my point. Again, I noted a discrepancy . . . because I took time to do some digging into what is, I repeat, a worthy cause.

Your anger is misdirected with a purpose. I get that. Just don't tilt at windmills of your own making. It isn't very becoming.

Yeah, Ace, stick to windmills of the Pete Townsend kind!

The wine does sound incredible but, since it's a commemorative release, with proceeds going to charity, it would be nice to know exactly what that amount is. Kudos to HIM for discovering that discrepancy and he's more than valid in pointing it out. Sounds like the D'Argenzios just need to fix the messaging of the press release.

Oh, and the clip Allyson includes here is just absolutely mind blowing from beginning to end!

I gotta admit, the 1st thing I thought was that somebody was trying to cash in on Randy's name. After reading Ace's diatribe, I realise I was wrong (for the most part). As Ace pointed out,I honestly don't remember any of the man's family trying to cash in on Randy's legacy, which is to be commended in this day and age of anything for a buck.....

And you never will. The Rhoads's & D'Arjenzio's aren't like that. There's only been 4 RR related products released since Randy's death. The Jackson guitars bearing his name, the limited edition Gibson RR Les Paul guitar, the RR Marshall Amplifier, & this bottle of wine. And while it's nobody's business, not a single penny of the proceeds for any of these coming to his family has ever been spent, with the exception being the award of the Randy Rhoads Classical Guitar Scholarship funds at Cal State Northridge & UCLA. As for the wine, Kathy is the non-musically inclined one, THe wine is her way to honor her brother & contribute to funding & furthering his legacy... nothing more. Attached is her tribute to her brother, from the keepsake card with each bottle.

Thanks for setting the record straight, Ace. But in HIM's defense, they just need to get the proceeds messaging in unison.
