MTV Spring Break With Vixen

Who remembers the classic MTV Spring Break weeks? I remember watching them with my mom when I was in middle and high school. I swear, I wanted to be on one of those Spring Break shows but by the time I got to college, MTV was basically out of the rock music business...and I couldn't have afforded the trip anyway.

Last night I found a full concert of Vixen at the MTV 1989 Spring Break at Daytona Beach, Florida. Brings back good memories.

Cool! I dont remember this one. But I remember the Ugly Kid Joe one.

Love Vixen! I cried both times they played "Cryin'", too, on The Monsters of Rock Cruise. Brilliant song.

Also, I had the coolest conversation with the drummer over coffee in the ship's cafeteria about renaming the band since they can't use "Vixen" anymore since the original guitarist has the rights to it.

p.s. I remember quite a few MTV Spring Break concerts that kicked a*s!... L.A. Guns, Cheap Trick to name a couple.

Glad I missed the Ugly Kid Joe show. Ugh! Funny, Kenny, if you'll recall, we were hangin' at the side stage at M3 in May while Ugly Kid Joe played.

UKJ wasnt on M3. sir.

Hahaha!!! Whoa, Kenny, my apologies! take it as a compliment! i so enjoyed talking to you and your crew of Merry Metallerz, I couldn't remember what band was playing until now.

Shows you how much I was paying attention to Jackyl, hahaha!!! Geez, I am losing it! I'll give you this -- though they both suck damn near equally, Jackyl edges out Ugly Kid Joe by a "Hair", in terms of listenability, ever so slightly on the "merits" of their music, mainly attributed to Dupree's onstage banter between songs. Jackyl's at least funny, whereas UKJ is far from it.

p.s. Next thing you know, I'll be tellin' ya Pretty Boy Floyd was great on The Monsters of Rock Cruise when I meant Faster Pussycat. Honestly, I'd rather see PBF, however.

I remember that like it was yesterday we (JW) were in town when that was filmed.
When I was in Johnny Winter, Jeff Ganz knew Share and when we were in LA around the time they released Rev It Up, Jeff gave me the greatest BDay in the world, I got to meet the girls after our show, cool night,(that night Slash and Duff from GNR sat in at FOH while I mixed the show they were JW fans) years later I found Share on FB and she remembered that night and the friendship was reborn, JSRG signed with our agency so she contacted me to help her with all of the Tech and Show Riders. I had the great pleasure to mix them at the Pre-Party and on the ship, then again at M3, the girls and I have become great friends. And WOW they still bring it on stage and look great, glad they rose back up and gave us some more 80's rock that us old farts missed, I think its all coming full circle, YES?

Haha. Love ya MetalBoy.

MB, "Pretty Boy Floyd was great" said No One, Never.

:)

Pretty Boy Floyd is great...says fletch. btw, ace, a double negative makes your sentence translate to: "Pretty Boy Floyed was great." see, ace, you're claiming it, too.

Metal boy, Jackyl kicks ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You my friend are 1!!!!!

Hahaha!!!, Jack-a*s! I'll give you that Dupree has the best "between song banter in the biz", right up there with, no, better than Roth. But the problem is the stuff that comes in between the "in between song banter", hahaha!!! Some of THE dumbest, simpletonian, hack, hookless, riffless crap ever mistaken for Rock n' Roll!

Ace! I gather you're none too fond of PBF! I'll have you know, "Leather Boys With Electric Toys" is one of my favorite Glam Metal albums of all time, for me, nearly right up there with "Look What The Cat Dragged In", "Too Fast For Love", "Out of the Cellar" and "Nightsongs".

JRC! Wow, man, what a history! Excellent sound work at both The Monsters of Rock Cruise Pre-party AND on the cruise itself. My ex-lead guitarist, who was also on the cruise, and I were so impressed, we commented nearly simultaneously, "Man, they were loud as sh*t!"

Share especially impressed us. She just burned AND what was cool is how ya mixed it, the vocals were still plenty audible! Nice job.

Hey, JRC, BTW, were you with Winter when he played LIFE in NYC in 1999? I was there!

Sorry MB, I just kind of have to draw a line somewhere. And w/ PBF I draw it at the fact that aside from the Motley Crue cover tune, and the the song they bought, "Set the Night On Fire" , every other song on that album, they STOLE from another band's catalog.

http://kerydoll.com/

Kery Doll & his band "Doll" have been around since the early 80's, & "Leather Boys W/ Electric Toys" & pretty much every other song Pretty Big Farce pilfered came from this band. And even when PBF did record 'em, Kristy Fawcett-Majors was so inept, they brought in a ringer, in Mike Slamer to play his leads. These guys give L.A. Glam a bad name.

I think Mike Slamer played on several records?
July 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShawn
That's Mike's job. Unfortunately, for PBF it's their entire career. When they "covered" the song "Slam Dunk" for the "SWITCH" soundtrack, all they did was take Kevin DuBrow's song demo, and remove Kevin's vocal & ass Steve's. (see? they can't even write a single friggin' song!)

ADD... not ass. It was a freudian slip. I think of Summers & immediately thing "ass".
July 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAce Steele
However the h*ll Howard Benson put "Leather Boys with Electric Toys" together, it's frickin' great, I don't care if they stole the sh*t. Put the needle on the record and you'll hear it frickin' ROCKS from start to finish.

Still, they shoulda credited Keri Doll.

Metalboy, YES I was in NYC on that show, that was actually my last run with the great white father, 11 years. It was not by choice but a falling out with his management and money owed to me for overseas advancing (we all know cell's were not used back then, all land line use, I had a phone bill of 3200 for two tours advanced) long ass story indeed but JW and I still remain friends and his manager is now worm food.
I thought the mix on the boat was GREAT, the mood just fit ya know, Janet's vocal is still as great as when she was younger. I had a blast, I had 8 shows mixing, KIX, JSRG, Rhino Bucket, Nelson & Nelson the acoustic show, and Loraine Lewis Femme Fatale. This years cruise I will be equally busy.
Glad you enjoyed the mix...CHEERS

WOW, JRC! Yeah, that musta been a real challenge mixing Johnny at LIFE back then as he was hurt in' pretty bad. You did a find job considering the circumstances.

Total shame about you getting so badly screwed with the phone bills, etc. I'm glad to see you guys have remained friends through it all and that he's back and playin' much stronger!

I will never forget as long as I live watchin' that Bob Dylan Tribute on TV where he hops on stage and just tears the roof off the place doin' his smokin' rendition of "Highway 61 Revisited".

Incredible mixing on the cruise for Vixen, as I mentioned before, as well as KIX. I slept through Femme Fatale as I went 36 hours straight including hittin' the beach for Great White before crashin'.

I have watched Femme Fatale's MORC show on YouTube and that sounded stellar as well, especially my Secret Valentine, Courtney Cox, the most beautiful Guitar Monsta I have ever heard! Look forward to Iron Maidens. You gonna mix that, too?!

Let's make sure we raise a glass on the cruise in March!

Metalboy
Most def we will raise a glass or two thousand lol on the boat, just walk up to FOH at any of my shows my friend, always welcome to sit in, its always the best seat in the house.
Yes Im pretty sure I'll be mixing Iron Maidens, Courtney and crew are friends of mine, FYI the lead singer studied under Steve Whiteman, lately he has put out some great talent, just ask Lizzy and her Grammy...See ya on the boat...CHEERS!
