Aerosmith Tonight!
It's finally Aerosmith day! Can you tell I'm excited? I'm seeing the band, plus opener Slash, at Riverbend in Cincinnati. I've got pavilion seats because the lawn sucks at Riverbend. I'd have better pavilion seats but I refuse to be forced into a VIP or premium package to get closer to the stage. I've come to hate large concert venues that are owned or managed by LiveNation, thus forcing the consumer into overpriced seats or crap they don't need. Seriously, I'd never buy a VIP package for Aerosmith - or any band - anyway because that's a colossal waste of cash, and I don't need a photo or handshake with the band and "free" T-shirt thank-you-very-much. What I do want is a nice place in the venue where I can most likely see the stage. So whatever.
I'll go to the show tonight, and enjoy my seat in the back of the pavilion, happy that I wasn't hoodwinked into an overpriced ticket. I'll also be bypassing the merchandise booth, another colossal waste of cash. Let's be honest here, folks. If you're reading this site, you've probably got a literal cache of concert shirts, right? I know I have way too many, all overpriced at time of purchase, so I surely don't need any more. The stuff you own ends up owning you and my closet does not need one more band shirt!
I'll go, rock out with my husband to my favorite band of all time and come home with cash in my pocket. I refuse to give LiveNation any more of my money than absolutely necessary to get in to see the gig.
Oh, and if by a miracle I do get "Nobody's Fault" live, you'll probably hear me screaming all the way at your place!

Here's why... If there's one band that's still touring, and with the original line-up, mind you, that's worth seeing, it's, hands down, these guys! Tyler has more talent on his pinky than almost any other living singer/songwriter who's still capable of belting out something on the level of "Dream On" just like he did when he was 21. The only one you might be able to say that about is McCartney.
If I've got the bread, I'm shelling it out to get right up there where Tyler can hold the mike out to me to sing back-up vocals just like I did in 2007, when he did so during "JADED".
Maybe this time, I'll try to snatch one of those trademark scarves he ties to the mike stand. That's something you just can't do from the cheap seats -- an experience I would NEVER FORGET as long as I LIVE!!! Believe me, you wouldn't care how much it cost after living it like that!
See that big round cast iron base to his mic stand? Steven's been know to activate somebody's dental plan with it, if they grab his scarves.
I've been seeing these guys since the "expensive seats" for their shows were $6.50 !
I saw 'em right before that last record flopped & they were still a great live act... just not $250 per ticket worth of great, this time around. And, as old as they're getting... I'd prefer to sit farther back & let distance fade those wrinkles. Then it'll be somewhat like the old days, when AC/DC was their opening act.
I'm taking my daughter and her BF to see Kiss and Def Lep Friday. It will be their first time seeing either band. Excited.
Gotchya on the scarves, Ace. I don't think I would go for his scarves. I was just making a point about the idea of being up close. Also, I get what you mean about seeing them when when they (we) were young. I first saw 'em in 1975 off "Get Your Wings"!
Yeah, the prices are through the roof but, again, nothing like see in' 'em (or any band one worships) point blank for a memory you'll NEVER FORGET! Especially if you may never have the chance to see 'em that way again.
Best time I ever saw Aerosmith was on the Permanent Vacation tour. Before there too much Aeroschlock. Went with a buddy of mine in college and took along his younger sister and her friend who only knew the latest album. It was funny to watch their reactions to the old songs.
Aerosmith played Big 10 Inch, Uncle Salty and Adam's Apple as far as some of the more lesser known songs. Don't remember the whole setlist so can't say whether Nobody's Fault was there or not.
Saw them again after a couple more albums. Too much Cryin' and Angel. Not enough old stuff.
Yea they called that one Monster of Rock. I was there and at West End for the free VH show. All day concert when the bands were in their prime was killer. Cup fights fire hoses and if im not mistaking they debuted Cinderellas Long Cold Winter.
Another act of note I saw back then was Led Zeppelin on May 27, 1977 at Capital Centre in Largo, MD (10 minutes from the Capital in D.C.)
The others are too numerous to mention but I'm damn sure I loved nearly all of 'em.
Go BIG or GO HOME!
