Vixen Makes Lineup Change
Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 12:01AM
This one kind of surprises me: guitarist Gina Stile has left Vixen. She's being replaced with
Britt Lightning (and yes, that name made me laugh). Regardless Vixen is a great group of women and I wish them well. They are always fun live!

Is that reference too obscure?
Britt played and sang very well, especially considering it was her live debut with the band.
And I gotta tell ya, they were loud as h*ll and GINA killed it and I imagine she still does. I sure hope she continues performing as she is an incredibly talented guitarist and a TOTAL bada*s!
Also, I had lunch with the drummer, Roxy Petrucci, who's nice as h*ll, just the two of us. I started talkin' band names to her, as they needed a new one as this was before Jan Kuehnemund, original guitarist and founder of Vixen (formed in high school in 1973!), had passed away but was gravely ill with cancer yet Roxy was telling me Jan didn't want to give them the name.
I explained my background in international communications so she was all ears and I asked her if she wanted to join me for lunch and she said, "Sure." We didn't really come up with any decent names but we did quite extensively theorize on the criteria required to a create a memorable band name.
God Bless, Jan, may you be jammin' in the clouds with Robbin Crosby, Kevin Du Brow, Jani Lane and all the rest of the L.A. Glammsters we've lost.
I can't remember it's name for the life of me.
I've known the Vixen girls a long time, some of them much better than others. I thought it was odd that all of a sudden they reverted back to the Vixen name as soon as Jan (R.I.P.) passed away. I recall there was a big struggle as Jan owned the name, & they were supposedly going to go by JSRG (Janet, Share, Roxy, Gina) and I told the one I was closest with, (I don't kiss n' tell) I thought that was a horrid idea, & offered up "Kitsune" , which is the literal Japanese translation of Vixen... i.e. little fox.
Anyhow, I'm glad they are continuing... It was nothing but wasted time, when they abandoned themselves as a band.
As far as gaining the rights to the name, I heard it was in the will. If anyone knows the exact story, please tell us.
I seem to recall Allyson doing a post on it at the time they went from JSRG, which doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, to become VIXEN once again.
End up in the buffet line with Big "Piledriver" Jeff and the rest of the male road crew while Roxy and the rest of the band is in the VIP lounge.
SIGH..............
But I do like talking to them about their music and when I saw them back in the day. Usually when I describe a particular gig, they will often tell me an anecdote about that particular gig, i.e. Joe Leste telling me about when I saw them at Limelight in NYC back in 1990.
That night, Slash joined 'em on stage for 3 (count 'em, 3!) songs during their set opening for KIX. Leste told me that was the night they got let go from their label and the record company told 'em right they went on. I had dinner with The Quireboys and on seperate occasions, drinks with them, Faster Pussycat, Biff Buford and Paul Quinn from Saxon, Dave Meniketti, lunch with Ronnie "10/10" Younkins (prayers to him right now as he recovers), drinks many times with Courtney Cox from Iron Maidens, Dana Strum, John Corabi, Chip Z'Nuff, Jeff LeBar, Eddie Chump (unfortunately), the dudes from Killer Dwarfs, Jaime St.James, Ron Keel and the dudes from Autograph, among others.
So, while you may want to be elbowing with Piledriver in the Cafeteria, I don't know about you, but I'll be talkin' to people I find interesting, 'Rockstar' or not!
Is anyone doing the cruise this next go around as I heard the band Thunder is going to be there, would like a report on them as right now they are on my WANT to see list. Rock on bro!
And you are right. They are listed for the MORC. So you might get your wish. I'd love to see a few more live vids of their shows. They even sound good acoustic these days:

And they sound alright doing the classics (though I suggest you skip to 5:30 to avoid too much awkward Brit dancing/sing-a-long stuff before the real song starts):

Darktown, you should totally cough it up for the Cruise. The bands are great and for the most part, totally love hangin' out with the passengers. Most are very approachable.. I usually start out with sh*t like I did with "The Quireboys"... To Spike: "Hey man, I saw you guys for the first time in 1990 at the Bay Street Theater when Guy jumped into the audience and got into it with somebody."
Spike: "I remember that!"... Before you know it, I'm drinkin' with the band at his invitation... They even gave me some of their drink tickets! It was great because Spike had all these chicks swarming on him and I wound up hangin' with 'em after he disappeared with one, haha!! Another night, I had dinner with them where we all got pretty drunk, loud and belligerent and it made me feel like a Rock Star at Spago, though the food wasn't as good.
I remember passenger that I kinda knew from previous cruises came up to me when I was drinkin' with him and some other people and the band again (that band sure likes to drink, haha!!) and he says to me, thankfully out of ear shot of the band, "Dude, the London Quireboys are my friends!", to which I replied, "Let's not get carried away!"
p.s. Whenever I ran into the Quireboys at the bar, they gave me drink tickets. It may have been because I told them the town I saw them play in '90, Sag Harbor, was one of the first Whaling towns in the U.S. and when I saw 'em walkin' down Main Street, they fit right in because they dressed like a bunch of f*ckin' pirates!"
