Steel Panther, 'Never Too Late' -- New Video

Steel Panther is back with a new song and video. They released "Never Too Late" Thursday. The song is on the upcoming album On The Prowl. The lyrics certainly are not Hemingway. I suppose that doesn't matter - you know you are getting a joke with Steel Panther. The fact that the band is made up of really talented musicians is just the cherry on top.

I wonder how long Steel Panther can keep it up? Clearly the band is making money or they wouldn't bother.

Hmmm. I have been wanting SP to step it up a bit. Is this it? Not sure.

At their best, they mimicked obvious bands or took those trappings and made original songs that stood on their own. At their worst, they just hit repeat and made/make d**k jokes.

This song leans into the latter category, suggesting a modern sound replete with the old-school juvenile lyrics. Like I said, not sure.

They live and die by their live shows. They are a comedy act that has the stage banter. But, well, I think that their creative output in terms of songs is stagnating. And I hate to say that, as I was an early fan. And I still am. But I think I will be attending shows instead of buying discs.

I mean, they never set out to reinvent the wheel. But this wheel is starting to go flat. So I will go for to comedy (and the earlier hits) and not really give these recent iterations much attention. Understandable, if sad. Shows that it takes a lot to be a great parody band.
