'Loyal to the Lie' -- Mick Mars, New Song

Happy Halloween! Mick Mars helps us celebrate by dropping a new song called "Loyal to the Lie." It is on the upcoming solo album The Other Side of Mars due in February.

"Loyal to the Lie" is heavy and I like it. Mick's guitar work here is great. Vocals are performed by Jacob Bunton - you will know him as the frontman from Lynam and Adler.

You have to wonder if the song title is a nod toward Mick's old Motley Crue bandmates?

I don’t know if it’s a nod to anyone or not but what I do know is that it sucks royally, imo. Same old generic shit most these other bands release these days. I def don’t consider it “heavy”, either.

A lot of hype (and hope), but as it turns out, a whole lot of disappointment. I expected much better, but this is trash.

What a disappointment. I really hope this track isn’t indicative of the rest of the album. Mick is a fantastic, yet criminally underrated guitarist, but this song flat out sucks. It’s generic, uninspired, paint-by-numbers, modern rock. If this were a blind listen for me, I would have never been able to identify LTTL as a Mick Mars composition. It doesn’t rise to the level of his previous greatness or feature even a semblance of his trademark tone. He should have kept Corabi on board. This garbage just reiterates who the true songwriter for Motley Crue has always been.

Very disappointing. The music's ok I guess but that singer is so bland and generic, really kills any kind of momentum this could of had.

Years ago...2 snippets of songs were released with John Corabi on vocals & they both sounded badass. "Gimme Blood" & "Shake The Cage" If I'm not mistaken were the song titles. Both were 10x better than this boring song.

I hope this Jacob Bunton guy isn't on the whole album. It will be a easy pass for me if he is. Sucks cause I've been anticipating this for years and have almost instantly lost all interest.

Hopefully John Corabi is at least on a couple tracks.

i dig it.
is it what i wanted (with years of anticipation for those solo album) - no. is it what i expected - yes (i mean c’mon, the old sound doesn’t sell - and would’t girls, girls, girls part 2 be just as boring).
would i have like corabi, sure, but it didn’t happen (on this track at least).

I dig it too! but if Corabi was singing, this would fit in perfectly on their self-titled album.

The tune is not bad, if not a bit generic in terms of modern rock. According to Mick, LTTL is not about Motley. It is about cult leaders and how they seem to always get people to be loyal to their lie. Those people die, and the cult leaders continue on. He mentioned Jim Jones, as well as the Heaven's Gate cult. Apparently, Mick liked the stuff he was doing with Corabi, but the guy he had as producer at the time layered a bunhc of extra stuff on the tracks, and Mick fired the producer and started over. Also, Mick says that this album is very diverse in terms of styles. Let's not throw the whole album out over just one track. Let's be fair to the guy and give the whole album a listen before we just write him off.

Oh Bob, don't ruin it for the peanut gallery. They wanted it to be about Motley so badly. Oh well, maybe some other time. Also I just heard today that there will not be any songs on this album that Corabi sings on. So dream on. I guess people will have to keep listening to the multi zinc selling self titled Motley album!

LOL BK...Multi zinc! Now that's funny stuff!

That would be horrendous if it sounded anything like Motley Crue.
Expecially if he ripped off the Corabi era Crue. The best thing about those early snippets of those solo songs with Corabi is that they sounded nothing like the self titled Crue album.

I was a big fan of John Corabi prior to him ever joining the Crue. I remember buying his Scream album on CD back in 1991ish, when CD's came in those odd long form box holders that they used to come in...Oh and the Scream never sounded anything close to Motley Crue.

So I don't know? I'm confused by a couple of these comments but just cause I'm a John Corabi fan doesn't in any way whatsoever mean I would want Mick or any artist to repeat or be redundant unto themselves.

Although I am bored with this Mick Mars song, I am at the very least thankful that it sounds nothing like Motley Crue. Frankly that's the best part about this song.

Oh yes Casey, Corabi has sold many more albums that Motley. That would just be horrible to sound like a band that has sold over 100 million albums. Tell me where Vince touched you. Roflmmfao

Um ok, honestly I love Motley Crue everything from 1981 to 1998 that they released is perfection to me. Except for that cheesy "Brandon" song from Generation Swine.

I just don't see the point in copying something that's already been done, especially if you were in said band.

Relax dude, I got nothing but love for 80's & 90's Crue.
