Ronnie Younkins Of KIX Is Doing Better

Ronnie "10/10" Younkins is apparently doing much better these days. He shared an update on his Facebook page that notes he has over two years of sobriety! Plus, Ronnie has been playing live again in his side band The Blues Vultures. In fact, The Blues Vultures will play an unofficial pre-party for M3 next month.

Ronnie was sober for 20 years, but a couple years ago relapsed and got very sick with alcoholism and hard drugs, which lead to some trouble with police. This all meant he had to step back from his guitar duties with KIX. Bob Pare is playing guitar for KIX now and it isn't clear if Ronnie will rejoin the band or not, but he says he would if asked.

I'd go see (and I have) The Blues Vultures way before I'd see Kix. That's not a knock to Kix, that's props to TBVs and 10/10. If I never heard of Kix, I'd never know The Blues.

Subway to Success is the ultimate rock song. Listen to it often.

Anyone know what the 10/10 in his name means?

Jeff, as per Sleaze Roxx (19 Sept. 2008):

Sleaze Roxx: Your nickname is “10/10.” Where did that come from?

Ronnie Younkins: We started the band in 1977. Donnie and I started the band. Donnie’s not with us now. But we used to go down to Brian’s little tiny basement. When we started the band we had a different drummer – the guys name was Donnie. Aside from our bass player whose name was Donnie. He named me 10/10 because I was so loud in Brian’s little basement. I had a Fender Super Amp at the time and the only way it would sound good is if you turned it all the way up to 10.

Glad to hear he is doing better. Has to be a struggle. Best wishes to him. Have always wanted to see Kix. I will check out The Blues Vultures.

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Jeff: while I concede to Him's explanation, in that RY always takes it to a 10, 10 out of 10 times. I liked the visual/visionary explanation.

A person who sees ten tenths natural is called "emmetropic", while a person with a mild nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism (which is called "ametropic"). There are people who can see more of the "canonical" 10/10, also the 12/10, the 14/10 and beyond. 10/10 does not necessarily mean perfect vision.
