Switchblade Scarlett Rocks!

So yesterday, we discussed Wildstreet. Then someone mentioned Switchblade Scarlett in the comments. And then a member of the band Switchblade Scarlett emailed me, saying I should check them out. So I did. And they rock!

Turns out, Switchblade Scarlett are from Ohio and they have that great Glam sound. The band's debut, White. Line. Fever will be out in July. Check them out. I'm sure when July rolls around, I'll be reviewing the album. I like what I hear so far!

great song BUT absolutly NO look. By that picture they look like they dont know what direction to go in,,rock, emo, boy band?..I see three looks here but not on the same page..Wildstreet has that IMAGE that is so important in music..glam music.

Interesting comment Jimbo. What I mean by that is that I'm blind so I can't see what they look like. all I have to go on is the music and, much like you described concerning their image, musically I don't think they know who they are either. the opening guitar riff sounds like the riff from that song Stacie's Mom by Fountains of Wayne. the backing vocals in the verses have almost an AOR sound. The chorus sounds more emo than glam. there is no guitar solo to speak of except at the very end when there are a few fast runs to temporarily suck in the glam fans for about five seconds.

They may have potential, but in their current state, I'm not impressed with them at all.

If you want to check out a band that will have a good future, my son just turned me onto AXIDENT AVENUE out of Norway. Theit debut album was just released and what we have been able to hear online is awesome so we have ordered the disc.

Not horrible, but definitely too all over the place (image and music) to get me interested. Bands that combines styles can be great, but only if they make it work - this band doesn't. Wildstreet was simpler, but had direction.

Studio clips are great... their live clips are pretty bad though, and they need big time help with their image.

Thanks to everyone who commented, and thanks for listening, to clear a few things up....
we are heavily influnced by Glam, both the 80's and 70's variety. But that is not the only place we are drawing influence from, and we are making a record that WE want to hear, and that is the way it will always be. . We are not trying be the new (insert one hit wonder band here) Our Vision for what we are doing musically is much bigger than that. We draw from Van-Halen, Queen, AC/DC, Crue, and we love acts like Fleetwood Mac, and the Cars who use a lot of Vocal Layering, and synths etc. We are VERY proud for all of that to come through in our music. If you are looking for the next sleaze band with a gimmick that is not us, we are not going to wear spandex (but love bands who do with all of our heat)... BUT if you give the songs up on our myspace a listen, the first six are from out new record, and they smoke. Broaden your Horizons, and listen to it for what it is, not the next (insert genera) Band, but, possibly THE next Band... Thats all we ask, if you want more solos certain vocals etc. i am sure you find it on one of the tracks. We love all the same bands you guys do, we just like a lot of other ones too :) Mainly Queen, lots of Queen...and AC/DC Thanks for listening and we hope we grow on you...like well herpes ....that Sh!+ is with you for life-

Hey Shawn. I respect the fact that you have a vision for your band, and I respect anyone who tries to do something out of the norm. I wish you only luck and success with your band. That said, you also sound very defensive and accusatory toward people such as myself who could potentially be your fans someday. Finally Shawn, proofread proofread proofread!

Thanks again for commenting, ....not defensive at all...it is just important to know what we are, and are not trying to be as a band. But I will say this, I am not a fan of fans of any one style of music who think band x is not brutal enough, band y is not funky enough, band z is not ___________ enough. I am sure most musicians or artist in general are not into that type of thinking at all. It comes off Like, that comic book guy from the Simpsons, or the two creepy brothers on Metalocoplypse. If as listener you have to put your bands into a box when it comes to things like image or sound, you are going to miss out on a vast world of great music, and I would not want that for us or anyone else out there, appreciate it for what is ROCK AND ROLL :)

peace and chicken grease-

Hi Shawn. Your point is well-taken. Keep in mind, that an expectation of what your band would sound like was, in part, created by the posting on this web site. allyson writes, "They're from Ohio and have that great glam sound." So, naturally, when I checked out your song, I figured it would sound a certain way. It doesn't, and that in and of itself is not the problem. My musical tastes run from Motley crue to Miles Davis to Muddy Waters to Mozart to Motorhead, so I certainly don't need my music to sound a certain way for me to like it. I merely pointed out the non glam sound of your music, not because I only like glam, but because glam was the expectation that Allyson's post created. This is not to blame Allyson at all. to her ears you sound glam, to mine you don't, but that's okay.

the reason why I didn't much care for your song is not that it doesn't sound glam. As I said earlier, to me, the song is all over the place. there's nothing whatsoever wrong with drawing from diverse musical influences, but the end result still has to make sense to the listener. Unfortunately, something like "Making sense" is a highly subjective idea, so what doesn't make sense to me could very easily make perfect sense to someone else. when I hear that song, it sounds disjointed to me, almost as if someone handed me a candy bar that is one third chocolate, one third salmon, and one third popcorn. I like all three of those foods, but do they belong together in one single candy bar?

Anyway, I am serious when I say that I wish you guys all the luck and success in the world. Stay true to yourselves and keep rockin'!

I like the fact that it's all over the place and I actually think the stuff goes together.

It may not be Glam but it sure as h*ll is ROCK'N'ROLL!!!

Theez Boyz are the REAL ROCKIN' FRICKIN' DEAL!

Well Bob, sorry you didn't like that track...Give Big Apple Baby a listen that might be more your speed, we will make a believer out of you yet :) Thanks to all who have given the track a listen, Metalboy! you rule :)

I listened to all the tracks on the bands myspace, they are sick as HELL! More importantly they could be played on the radio NOW! That is what this whole scene needs, not another band that sounds just like Brittany Fox, or Faster Pussycat. Let them do their thang! I mean this is www.bringbackglam.com right? Well, they are bringing it back and in a way that makes sense to younger listeners, which might mean new fans for all the other new and old glam bands out there...its about time someone did that!

Well Shawn, consider me a new believer. Today, when I got home from work, I went to your Reverb Nation page and checked out all of your songs. While I'm still not crazy about "say Anything", I really like all the other ones -- even the Pat Benatar cover. :) the song that surprised me the most is "little Hearts." When it starts off, it sounds like the obligatory power ballad that so many bands put on their album, but I am so glad I stuck with it. I love the way the chorus shifts into double time -- similar to what Motley crue did with "On with The Show" way back in the day. It just goes to show, you can't judge a book by its cover, and you shouldn't judge a band by one song. I'm a big enough dude to admit when I am wrong, and I was definitely wrong about you guys. Count me in as someone who'll be buying your record when it comes out in July. Since I gave you so much crap, if you ever make it down to sunny San Diego, beers are on me!
