Bret Chooses The Best Hair Metal Bands Of All Time

We all love the bands he picks, but there's no surprises or ingenuity. His commentary on each band is weak too. Click the link to see Bret's choices for the best hair metal bands of all time.

His list is pretty bang on, I'll give him that. And notice the use of the term "Hair Metal". Interesting term, and he didn't take offense to it, Hmmmm.....

I love all the bands on his list for different reasons. But the term Hair Metal is kind of used loosely, I mean call it whatever you want, but Motley Crue and Guns N Roses I wouldn't consider Hair Metal. For one they did not like the term, and I see most of both bands material as straight ahead rock n roll and some punk influenced. Bon Jovi has the ability to write great songs whether you are a fan or not, they prove they could just have hit rock songs, same with Def Leppard. I'd put Poison at number one for the sole reason they don't take offense to the term and for Look What The Cat Dragged In. That album is the definition of 80s rock n roll, glam, or hair metal, whatever you wanna call it. All great picks.

Take out GnR, they are not a Hair Metal Band and do not belong anywhere on this list. Bump everyone else up one spot and insert Cinderella at #5, then the list would be perfect!

Hahaha!!! Love the G'n'R Hair Metal / Glam Metal / Sleaze Metal Deniers... Watch their classic "Welcome To The Jungle" video. Close your eyes and it sounds like a Sleaze Metal band fronted by your screaming grandmother. Watch it with them open and Huh-uh-lo-oh, Hair!

Of course, Michaels has got it all wrong (just like everything else since he put out his first solo album)... That said, I do appreciate his mock modesty... He is being a gentlemen by placing Poison fifth...

However... Here is the correct list...

1) Motlëy Crüe
2) RATT
3) Cinderella
4) Poison
5) Britny Fox

p.s. I promised to do "Metalboy!'s Top 100 Greatest Hair Metal Bands" List... Just haven't had time to do it... I will keep you "posted", no pun intended.

i will still not use the term Hair metal - i find it deeply crass

METAL boy, The Ripper likes your list! Just saw Britny Fox Friday night in Queens, they were Fu*kin awesome! Played a long set, great mix from all albums except SHMS. Heavy on BITE DOWN HARD which was perfect. Opened with In Motion closed with Six guns loaded into Girl school. They played Whole lotta Rosie and Hair of the dog. Ripper likes those songs but would of loved to hear 2 more BF songs. Say, LOUDER and Kick and Fight or Rock Revolution. They did play RIP"s favorite MIDNIGHT MOSES which sounded incredible!!!!!

Hahaha!!!, Oper8n! Clever boy! Personally, I think you're pushin' it with Trixter and Y&T but at least you didn't have Tesla listed!

Jack T.! Damn, Britny didn't do "Louder"?! Sh*t, they should open with that instead of wasting time with "Whole Lotta Rosie". I mean, I get why they would do "Hair Of The Dog" since they covered it on an album... And I get why they would do "Whole Lotta Rosie", they just don't need to. They've already got the songs!

This is the same thing that frustrates the Metal out of me with Poison, though I gotta say, Britny isn't nearly as offensive. As Axl Rose once said, when I saw G'n'R play The Bayou in D.C., their last club date ever (!), before going on tour with Motlëy Crüe, "Y'know the problem with Poison is..."... Well, I still don't know what he said, because the capacity crowd of 250 (!) were cheating so raucously.... but I'll speak on his behalf... Because they eat up their sets with dumba*s covers when they could be playing "I Want Action", "Cry Tough" and "Mama Get Me To The Show" or whatever the hell that last one's called!

1. Poison
2. Cinderella
3. Bulletboys
4. Britney Fox
5. Crashdiet

This is my ultimate top 5 glam list. Poison is obviously number one because they were the one band that didn't care about what they're labeled. Cinderella was straight up sleazy, blusey, rock n roll and they had the image. Bulletboys, strictly because "Smooth Up In Ya" is one of the best songs to come outta the 80s, it defines everything glam was about! I'll throw Britney Fox in because of great songs, they're a fun band. Crashdiet might of confused some of you, but they got me interested in new rock n roll music. Their first record "Rest In Sleaze is all ya need to hear to agree with me.
I still don't consider Motley or GNR glam though. Love both bands, but people will call it as they will.

I think we may have all forgotten
1. Warrant
And my dog's name is Jani.

mb: it's entitled, "Let me go, to the show":, which I've always insisted (my college roommate bear witness), that Poison lifted it directly from KISS's hotter than hell album, "let me go, rock and roll". It was their first album; they did a lot of thievery...or as I sometimes say, "paid homage to" or "flattered".

DJ! One thing we certainly agree on -- "Smooth Up In Ya"! THAT is easily in my "Top 10 Favorite Glam Metal Songs", which are, at the moment, as follows:

1) "Photograph", Def Leppard
2) "Round And Round", RATT
3) "Livewire", Motlëy Crüe
4) "Long Way To Love", Britny Fox
5) "Cry Tough", Poison
6) "Last Mile", Cinderella
7) "Smooth Up In Ya", Bulletboys
8) "Rock And Roll (Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire)", Pretty Boy Floyd
9) "Blow My Fuse", KIX
10) "Poison", Alice Cooper
11) "Black Out In A Red Room", Love/Hate

I made it 11 because, well... You know why!
