Nickelback Release 'Dirty Laundry' Cover

Nickelback is in the studio, working on a new album. During a recording session the band did a cover of Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry' and decided to put it online for fans. The track isn't a single or part of the upcoming album - just something new to check out.

Personally, I prefer the Nickelback version to the original Henley, but that's me. I enjoy Nickelback and I'll probably add this to my running playlist.

I just see Nickelback as the textbook example of everything fake, phoney & fabricated.
Their records, to me, have zero soul or guts to them. Every bit sounds like ti was voted on to see what could maximize sales. It's not music, it's a product. I don't know a single musician that likes Nickelback. NOT one.

The joke is, "Last year Santa Claus ran out of lumps of coal to punish bad little children, So he had to start leaving Nickelback CDs as a substitute."

nickelback - the rock equivalent to luke bryan? both are roasted, but both sell tons of tickets. it goes to show what real music fans know.

Ace - with all due respect, I find it funny that you are criticizing Nickelback for being too commercial when we're hair metal fans. Hair metal was overtly commercial and every band made decisions that were based on maximizing revenue. Ballad as the second single, anyone?

IMO, Nickelback gets unfairly criticized because they are (a) massively successful, and (b) their lead singer is a douchebag who unabashedly writes, hook-oriented rock with cheesy lyrics. It's cool if they aren't your thing, but calling them out for being overly commercial seems a bit disingenuous.

that moment when you agree with Ace hates Nickelbutt, but also know that Bryon is dead-on as well.... damn.

Interesting comments all. Before I even saw Ace's comment I thought to myself as I listened, "this has no soul." It reminds me of FFDP's cover of "Bad Company." The original versions of these songs had soul. they had swing. While I don't hate Nickelback's version of "dirty Laundry", there's nothing about it that I like either. It has no soul, no groove. I know those are unquantifiable things, but nevertheless, that's what I feel when I hear it. and Bryon, let's remember that hair metal didn't start out as an overly-commercial entity. It's only when record labels started seeing dollar signs that the really predictable formulaic stuff took over the genre.

Bob - agreed 100%. My point was really just that singling out one band as being overly commercial when we (on this site) celebrate lots of bands who were also overly commercial is a bit disingenuous. I LOVE the hell out of the glam bands that I grew up with, but you can't say that Motley, Poison, Warrant, etc., weren't commercial or didn't make lots of decisions based on the dollars.

Actually, you can say the same of virtually every band, in every genre, and there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone has to eat, and everyone wants to be successful.

I have to say I don't mind this cover and I am also a big fan of nickel back. they have some songs that just rip and yes they have there commercial stuff but most bands once they get a taste of radio n sales success wanna continue it and I'm sure they like the money and the idea of not bunking the whole band in a single room anymore lol.

Compared to douche-canoes like Draiman and Taylor, this band (and, by extension, Kroeger/aka the former Mr. Lavigne) is anodyne.

I like Bryon's take, even as I understand Ace's. But I suppose there are some nuanced degrees between the two. Some bands are more interested in chasing the ring than others. Others stumble into catching it and come to love it. Others, surprisingly (in whole or in part), come to loathe it.

As has been said on here time and again, the market decides what counts as successful in terms of share thereof and longevity. Fans decide, on a personal basis, what counts as "good" or "true" for themselves. I don't begrudge them their success. They earned it.

Well said comments, all, especially HIM's last paragraph in his last comment above.

Though I HATE Nicklef*ck almost as much as TeslUGH!, just like those clowns, Nicklehack have at least one good song, i.e. "Animal".

However this cover of "Dirty Laundry" is mediocre, at best.
