Oh Great White Has Another New Singer
And how was your Wednesday? Mine has been bonkers.
I have a ton of work to get done and I started tackling my list early this morning. I decided to run around the corner for a latte and got stopped by a man walking up my driveway. He was an engineer and crews working on my street installing fiber internet busted a gas line. The gas was already wafting my way when he told me I had to evacuate. So I grabbed Eric, the cat and laptops and headed for... somewhere.
Evacuating with a cat sucks because they don't like car rides or carriers. We first ended up on the patio at a nearby Panera where I did get my latte and Roosevelt screamed the entire time. We then decided to relocate to my community's pool area where Eric and I could work under the shade awning... and Rosie still wailed.
Four hours later, the fire department was gone and we were back home. The cat immediately passed out from stress I guess and I swiftly got a headache from the residual gas odor. I've been playing catch up ever since regarding work today. I did scroll Blabbermouth and I see Great White has a new singer. Again. Does that make four? I've lost count.
Andrew Freeman of Last In Line now replaces Mitch Malloy. Remember, Jack Russell fronts his own version of Great White. Mitch is doing a Van Halen experience thing now anyway. It's all kind of silly at this point.

I'm sorry. But this band is broke. For all his good tidings, Kendall strikes me as the problem. Russell? He is a train wreck always in the making and a keeper of demons that make that wreck always, and everywhere, possible (see recent issues). Malloy? I dunno. He took a gig he got. He now lives off a job he almost had. He has clean pipes, but not a lot of depth. He has those teeth though! My God! THOSE TEETH! THAT HAIR!!! Did you see how GW always made sure that there was some fan blowing so those locks were flowing?
Here's the thing. When I take stock of all of this, I am left with: I hope Russell stays (or gets) healthy. I hope Malloy is happy with his career. And I think that Kendall needs to look in the mirror he has spent shoving in other people's faces. You are a great demonstration that one can overcome demons and thrive. But, thrive at what cost? Janus also had a face. Oh wait. He had two. So, Kendall, pick one.
There. Better.
The FABIO of METAL!
But joining GW at this point is a mixed blessing. You are subject to the whims of a person who, given every chance to be humble and kind, decides to denigrate and hurt. If that is what his steps tell him to do, I think he is in something other than AA. Perhaps he is in Almost Awesome, or Already Amiss. I dunno. Kendall grates on me. And I say that knowing that his former singer (not Malloy or Ilous) tests a lot of people's patience, and pushes a lot of buttons. But when you, clean and sober, turn out to be a big tool, it is hard to nod when you wax philosophically about how great the 'new singer is' or how you 'don't want to go someplace dark' by considering a return of the classic lineup. It sounds like your higher power is you, and that is a recipe for ego in an age when you barely have an audience.
Make amends lately? Perhaps not, as you are now thrice shy.
I had a nice conversation with Kendall on MORC one year.
He was wearing a Damned T-Shirt so I told him a story about an incredible reunion show of The Damned I saw at The Ritz back in 1990 or whenever the h*ll it was.
That said, a tool is a tool … Case in point, Frank Hannon … Decent guitarist (nowhere near the talent of Kendall), apparently friendly to most fans but also a d*ck to waiters and “help” staff as I witnessed on MORC … Another tool in the tool shed, otherwise known as Hair Metal.
Malloy is fake, not right for Van Halen … But then again, neither was Cherone … As goofy looking as he is, he does have chops and definitely NOT a tool!
