One Billion Views!
Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 05:24PM
Europe has hit a major milestone of the digital era: "The Final Countdown" has officially passed one billion views on YouTube. The song is iconic, especially in the world of sports, and I bet that helped with all those views. Good for them. I hope casual fans checking out the song dig deeper into the Europe catalog. Such a great band.

We're headin' for Venus (Venus)
And still we stand tall
'Cause maybe they've seen us
And welcome us all, yeah
Mind . . . BLOWN!!!
And, while, "Cherokee" was a heartfelt nod to history (alongside other songs, like the more contemporaneous White Lion ditty "Little Fighter"), it too suffers from some cringey lyrics:
They were driven hard, across the plains
And walked for many moons
'Cause the winds of change,
Had made them realize, that the promises were lies.
Hearts in the right place. Writers are in the wrong place (not that Europe is a bad place to be). And, heck, they captured the phrase "Winds of Change" at least three or four years before the Scorps did!
Glad those guys are still doing what they do. I always sorta' wanted to see them live. But that was many moons ago.
But there is cheese and there is cheese. For every "Cherokee" there is a "Balls to the Walls"; for every "Final Countdown" there is a "Crazy Nights" by Loudness or even "All We Are" by Warlock. Then again, none of those songs have that sweet tinkling of the plastic ivories or the coiffed man candy that is the Tempest!!!).
I mean, we all wanna chant M-Z-A, right? And all we are is all we need. If you disagree, I will plug a bomb . . . you get my point.
THAT is the funniest sh*t you guys have EVER written on here, if not THE funniest sh*t to be written on here, period!
Kudos, Gentlemen!
Thank goodness that (metal) music is an international language and all are invited to the party.
And, again, Metalboy!, welcome back.
