A Week of Girl
A lovely soul has contributed to my Girl problem...and now I own several of the albums in a digital format -- the quest for vinyl continues!
To celebrate this massive gift, I hereby declare this "Girl Week." Starting today and through Friday, I'll review the various Girl albums and talk about legendary performances and perhaps even venture into post-Girl spinoffs like Man Raze, Sheer Greed, L.A. Guns, and Def Leppard.
Albums that will be reviewed include Sheer Greed, Wasted Youth, Killing Time, and Live at the Marquee.
Not surprising, there are several good Girl clips on YouTube. Many are taken from the BBC program The Old Grey Whistle Test.
Let's kick off our week with some of these videos. Here's Girl performing "Take Me Dancing."
Now, Girl performing "Strawberries." While I was listening to this clip last night, Eric remarked that is sounded just like L.A. Guns. True, Phil Lewis' voice is incredibly unique and definitely a major part of the charm that is Girl.
Our final video on this Monday, a clip of "Do Ya Love Me."
Tomorrow, I'll review Sheer Greed.

Does Allyson have the right to tell a band what's in their best interest ? Of course not. But, that doesn't change the fact that clearly, if the music is unavailable commercialy, and if downloading it doesn't stop her quest to buy it second hand, there is no level on which anyone can claim harm, it's not an edge case which you can then pursue the 'who has the right' argument against legitimately.
Someone once said that arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded. I think we're reaching that point. You seem to be pursuing your point for the sake of it, and definately sticking to the idea that this blog has no value at all. If you think that, why read it ? My point about reputation seems to have been lost on you, and I really have nothing further to say, so perhaps we need to move on.
Also, to be clear, I never said that this blog has no value, just no commercial value. It's the same as my blog (well, some might argue that mine has no value whatsoever). Anyway, I didn't want that point to be misconstrued. I'm not suggesting that Allyson does a bad job of blogging. Frankly, as bloggers, we don't have much of a reputation to protect. I'm comfortable with that and perhaps that's why the point seems lost on me.
Anyway, you are likely correct that this isn't going anywhere and the tone has turned much more negative (and personal) which is ugly.
if you wanna look, but dont buy go to myspace.com/girlsheergreedofficial or myspace.com/gerrylaffy where there are loads of tracks, pics etc... enjoy. Gerry x
