Bands to See Before You Die

Some people make lists of things they want to accomplish before they die. Others - like me - make lists of bands I want to see before I go gently into that good night.

I was thinking about my list this past weekend. There are still a lot of bands left to see - but I've also made quite a dent, especially this past year.

My master list (in absolutely no order):

Aerosmith
Guns n' Roses
Motley Crue
George Michael
AC/DC
Kix
Tesla
Fastway
Bon Jovi
Twisted Sister
Sammy Hagar
Led Zeppelin

Van Halen
Whitesnake

Alice Cooper

Rolling Stones
Pink Floyd
The Who
Eric Clapton
Metallica
Def Leppard
Poison
Iron Maiden
Rage Against the Machine

I'm sure my list doesn't fit with some trendy/hipster/indie magazine crowd. Those types probably list bands like Death Cab for Cutie and Arctic Monkeys or something. I think for a band to make your "death list" they better be classic. Sure, I like a lot of new bands - and quite frankly I've seen all the ones I really dig.

I'm doubtful I'll ever see Led Zeppelin, but they are on the list because they are a big dream. Guns n' Roses made the list - but I mean the classic line-up, not Axl Rose and Friends. We'll see if that comes to fruition. I can't even imagine how much tickets would cost for that reunion. I bet scalpers are already praying for that day.

So, who is on your list? I bet we share a few bands in common!

What a great topic on this Monday morning. Fortunately I have set out on quite a few journey's to make my dreams happen when it comes to seeing those certain bands that have always been on my list
I know I've missed out on quite a few shows from having been so young during the 80s Metal Era, however I think I've done a pretty good job at crossing off most of the bands on my list.

Sabbath (w/ Ozzy)- check
Maiden - check
Page/Plant - check (probably the closest I'll ever get to Zepp)
VH Sam and Dave - check
AC/DC - check
Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium - check (hell, i hit 10 cities on the HAND tour two years ago)
CRUE - check
Poison - Check (lost count two years ago-ha ha)
Dio - Check
Metallica - check
AERO-check, check and check
Def Lep - check
Skid Row (w/ Baz) - check
GN'R - check (yes, saw the '92 tour w/ Met)
Cinderella - check
RATT - Check (many times over)
Boston - check
Cheap Trick - check
Allman Brothers - check
Pantera - check
Pink Floyd - check
Alice Cooper - check
Alice In Chains - check
Tesla - check
Twisted Sister - check
KISS - check
Great White - check

I probably should have seen the Stones a few times by now but never had any desire to see them.
There's only band left on my list of MUST SEE BANDS and that is WHITESNAKE! Hopefully next summer I'll get my chance.

I have seen a fair few concerts also. Ummm . . .the only ones I can think of that I still have to see are KISS, AC/DC, G'NR. The two that I'm most proud of seeing, are Twisted Sister (during the Twisted Christmas tour), and Quiet Riot. I missed out on seeing Quiet Riot in their Metal Health lineup, but saw them during Rock Never Stops in 2005. I am trying to make a point to see the bands I love at least once in case something happens. A death, breakup, etc.

Well, I've fulfilled most of my list. Whitesnake was the first concert I went to many years ago (I sneaked out). I saw Guns N' Roses (probably my favorite) for the Use Your Illusion tour, when was that, about 92? I saw Rolling Stones a couple summers ago at Churchill Downs-- venue way too big. We won tickets to AC/DC at Riverbend back around 1995. And I've got tickets to Columbus and can't wait!

I LOVE concerts!!!! And not many other girls like the concerts I do--- they all like crazy girlie concerts!! I wish we had more conerts around my town because it gets a little old driving to Cincinnati for every show. This AC/DC will be the farthest I have travelled for a concert, but I think its a good cause...

I almost never go to concerts, partly because I cant afford it, partly because the best bands never come over here, and partly because I never get off my arse and sort it out. Heres my list though:

Motley Crue
GN'R (original line up)
Iron Maiden
Ozzy Osbourne
Hardcore Superstar
Sixx:a.m.
Bruce Springsteen
AC/DC
Buckcherry
Skid Row
Alice Cooper
Dire Straights
The Killers
Lordi
Rage Against the Machine
Sex Pistols

I know many of them arent gonna happen. But hey, a guy can dream cant he?

Wow, shows I thought were cool to see, I can't believe are on these lists.
I got to see Guns 'n Roses open for Aerosmith in '88, saw Rage Against the Machine 3 times (pre-breakup) and the Sex Pistols twice. You don't even want to know how many times I've seen Tom Petty, but I guess that would be another blog... ;)

I think I've seen most of the bands I've wanted to see - however a band I've always wanted to see but couldn't bring myself to buy a ticket because for what I perceive is a lack of respect for fans is GnR. Too many episodes for Axl-the-diva out there for me to fork over my scarce funds. Too bad 'cause I've LOVED the band since Appetite.

this is for mom2ross, Rage are back together now are they not? They played their first gig in ten years at leeds festival about a month, ago, my brother went and saw it, said it was awesome.

Yes, Lucifer - Rage have reunited. In fact, the first show they played here in the Midwest after reuniting was in Wisconsin last summer. My nephew (my concert going partner in crime) had tickets to see them and wanted me to go with. It happened to be three days before my due date. I went into labor the night before and had my son that day. I'm sure there's some corny birth/rebirth thing I can do here, but I won't. Either way, I'm glad they're back together, but I don't know how long it will last. (Tom Morello has a new Nightwatchman album coming out soon.) If you get a chance to see them, Lucifer - do so. One of the most powerful bands out there.

Allyson, I don't see Big Cock on your list...? (P.S. Don't want to make you jealous, but I've seen ALL the bands on your master list!)
September 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDave
I think Twisted Sister is the only band I really would like to see live that I haven't yet. I don't think GNR will reunite, and I've seen the voice of Skid Row twice (that's good enough for me), so I wouldn't even put them on my list. And Zeppelin will be way to expensive when (not if) it happens, so it's not even worth thinking about. So unless Jim Morrison returns from Africa and gets back together with Manzarek, Densmore, and Krieger, then it's just Twisted Sister or bust.
September 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJT
For me it would be:
Guns 'N Roses
(Reunited, not the version that exists today)
Twisted Sister
( I can't believe that I haven't see these guys yet.)
AC/DC
(Taking care of that one in November)
The Scorpions
(I have seen them before, but it was so long ago, I don't even remember the show.)
Judas Priest
(I have seen Halford live, but not with Judas Priest)
Alice Cooper
(I hope to catch him live sometime in '09)
Krokus
(I am hoping that their reunion allows for some U.S. dates next year)
JORN, The Answer
(U.S. shows are rare for JORN or The Answer)
Savatage
(I would love to see a reunion by these guys)

I'd always expected that Zeppelin would be on my list as well, but I don't think I'd actually want to see them in their current incarnation. If it were 1973, I'd gladly attend a show- but at present time, I worry that it'd just be a disappointment...although I'm pretty sure that if someone put a ticket into my hand, I wouldn't shove it back at them.

That said, the one band I missed out on before they broke up and always regretted not seeing is White Zombie.
September 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRose
Having knocked Judas Priest and Iron Maiden from my list, and just bought tickets to see The Angels, my remaining list is:

Whitesnake
Suicidal Tendencies
Guns n Roses ( I saw Axl, that doesn't count )
Metallica
Alice Cooper
Bon Jovi ( but on the Keep the Faith tour )

I can't believe you didn't get to Iron Maiden this year, they are without a doubt the best show I have ever seen, and probably will ever see
September 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterChristian
wow this would be a tough one. Unfortunatly many of the bands i want to see might not ever happen because members are or they broke up
