Pretty Boy Floyd Announce Tour

Pretty Boy Floyd has a new lineup to go with their tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz. Who's in the band these days? Steve Summers (vocals), Kristy Majors (guitar), Troy Patrick Farrell (drums) and Chris 6 (bass).

The tour isn't really hitting the U.S. Instead, the band is going to Europe, Japan, Mexico and Australia - not necessarily in that order. There is one American date on 12/18 at The Galaxy in Santa, Ana California. The Bulletboys will also play that show. Check out all the dates here.

Gee Dannyboy, I must have really shit in your cereal by insulting Steve Summers! Get a sense of humor, man. I don't dislike Steve. I don't know if you read the whole post but I know Steve. It just seemed like something Steve would do. Nobody BUT Steve would find it funnier if I found him out. I have better things to do than match wits with the witless, like wipe the jizz of my beer belly.

Metalbuy - I said I could be wrong and I was. No harm intended. Again, if you people didn't hear, I know Steve. If I really wanted to push the issue I would talk to him myself. No need to write me an essay. Sorry for the inconvenience, go back to your lives everybody! Christ on a cracker. PBF fans have less of a sense of humor than the PBF haters.

Bri...

Vain's great. That Skid Row record's great. But I still like "Leather Boyz" better. It's just catchier. No duds on it. While "Beat the Bullet", "Vain" and "Icy" are good, is "No Respect" 100% no filler? Same goes for "Skid Row". Yeah, Bach had the best chops of anyone, but is that really a whole album? Beyond the hits, we're stretchin it, to say the least. Plus I'd say the humor and camp of "Leather Boyz" is way what makes it great, something those two records you mention are virtually devoid of.

Yes, "Leather Boyz", is tongue firmly in cheek, trash and glam, exactly what those are not. Tho "No Respect" may be trashy and it may be glammy, not a whole lotta self deprecating humor there. And that's totally nil on "Skid Row". The only thing in that band's collective cheek was that stupid nose/ear ring chain piercing that extended from Bolan's nose to his ear. The only two things that were really glam about 'em was the bassists first name and Bachs pretty face. You really want somethin' hack, try those early Bon Jovi albums "The Snake" played on.

There are that dude's true colors. Look, he's a great and talented guitarist, but is that stuff really catchier than anything on "Leather Boyz", songwriting-wise? Sorry, but I've wanted to yank that Rachel dude's chain ever since I first saw it on Headbanger's Ball. Now who needs the Anger Management Therapy, hahaha!!! But I do like "Forever" (catchiest opening riff for them, by far) and "Slave to the Grind", at least, the title. Again, tho, the stuff lacks humor, which is what really makes a Glam Metal Album great for me, like Poison, "Look What The Cat Dragged In" or, to a lesser degree, Crue's "Too Fast For Love", for example. Crue's get ups at the time were the height of hilarity, however.

Yeah, PBF is not as talented. Yeah, Summers can't sing his way out of a paper bag. Yeah, they copped a lot from Motley and Dolls licks (who didn't), and yeah, they haven't come up with jack since "Leather Boyz", but for some reason, for me, anyway, that album just rocks b*lls out from the first Godzilla sound effects to the final e-chord. Nothing heavy, subject-wise, just a good-time party rock and roll album, done with slick and savvy street smarts, wit and a little bit of a leg pull and a wink, too. It's supposed to be dumb and fun! It's kinda like a glam metal Ramones record, really. The fact that they weren't tryin' for "Exile on Main St.", makes it great, like a great comedian throwin' away a line.

Get a load of this, tho, Bri. I remember watchin' Kristy Majors takin' heat from his mom on The Sally Jesse Raphael Show (hahaha!!!), a talk show that was popular back in the 90's, for dressin' like a teen drag queen. You could see he wasn't the one who wrote the stuff. Let's just say he ain't no Rhodes Scholar (but, neither, obviously, am I). Then again, he did write "Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire)", hahaha!!! So, yeah, for me, "Leather Boyz" is just plain catchier.

Bri, I appreciate your input, and no hard feelin's, ey? This is the greatest site and we're havin' great fun with it here.

Hey, Metal Buy...

What's your opinion on "Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz"?

I still find it hilarious you thought I was Summers.

Care to share any anecdotes on that character, dude?

Hey, sorry about the confusion. I meant no insult to you I just thought I would break Steve's balls.

Leather Boys: I love the record! I had to learn the whole thing when I joined PBF (Please don't ask I'd like to remain anonymous.). The songs are awesome. The overall sound sucks( as do most records of that period.) But that being said, LBWET is a solid work of sleazy art combining the best of Kiss, Alice Cooper, NY Dolls, Motley Crue, and the rest of the Sunset Strip scene.

Loud Guitars, Amazing drumming, lyrics that make you feel alive and choruses that inspire you to shout at the top of your lungs is the recipe for every classic rock n roll record. Leather Boys has it all.

Steven Summers: He's an asshole. He sleeps with pigs. He does gay porn and doesn't even accept money for his work. He says he just enjoys the attention it brings from hot guys. He takes pictures of his bowel movements and texts them to his "friends".

Just kidding. Steve is cool. Not much to say about him accept that compared to other front men, he's pretty easy to get along with.

Never any hard feelings......

PBF sticks in my craw for some reason. I bought the album when it came out, still have it today, and still like it. It isn't the "must have" glam record to me, but that's my opinion. It is typical for the time period.

My original point was that to call it an anniversary tour implies that (at least some of) the same people have been together for the entire time (like the KISS 35th anniversary tour....Gene and Paul have been constants). However, if it is the anniversary of the release of the record, then so be it. I'd have the same problem with the Bulletboys or Bang Tango making the same claims.

I'll take Vain and Skid Row over PBF anyday......but that's just me :-)

I hear ya. The 20th anniversary thing... it's just the biz. Call it whatever it takes to get the tickets sold.

Metal Buy...that's hilarious stuff. That's cool you played with 'em. Incredible! What the hell, you probably got a killer record in ya, too. Now's the time, my friend, this kinda stuff is back bigger than ever (well bigger than it's been in awhile, at least)!

Even if you just did a cover band (I know, I know) doin' this kinda stuff, you'd probably have a blast. Still laffin' at you disgracin' my good name, hahaha!!! Hey, since you played with PBF, I'm guessin' you've got some pretty eclectic tastes. Ever hear Generation X's second record, "Valley of The Dolls"? I know it's "Punk". But ain't it really Glam Metal? Produced by Ian Hunter, no less. Shame Idol kinda lost the plot after that.

Bri...gotcha on Vain and Skid Row. Tho, not as high concept, they are still incredible records and I can see why someone might think they're better, perhaps more "legit". They certainly are less disingenuous than "Leather Boyz", which unfortunately for me, in this case, means they are less funny. Saw recent footage of "Vain" on YouTube a few days ago. Gotta see 'em. Sorry, don't need Skid without Bach. Can't they patch that up?

Hey, you guys weighed in on Allyson's Aerosmith thing? I lost the plot on that one, too...hahaha!!!

Rock On, boyz!!!

Metalboy: Sorry bout that dude. I can't come up with names for shit. Thanks for being a good sport about it.

I love Gen X but I only have their greatest hits CD.

Cover band? Hang on. I might have something cool to talk about in the next few months.
November 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMetal Buy
Metal Buy,

Actually, you can come up with names for sh*t. It's s pretty frickin' funny name you spoofed me with, man, actually, I must admit! I probably do sound like a frickin' sell out, the stuff I get on, sometimes.

Gotchya on Gen X. What about other Glam Metal or Rock'n'Roll bands that ya like. Is there a fave Glam Metal act from say,'80 to '94, that might be obscure but killer that you like? Just curious...part of a project I'm workin' on. Also, is there a tale from the road with PBF you can share here? Or is it all "What happens on the PBF Tour, stays on the PBF Tour?"

Lastly, do you have a fave Glam Metal and/or Hard Rock album?

And, who is your fave guitarist, besides yourself, natch?

Speaking of which, hope that cover band happens...

Here's another one you can work up...

Carole King's "It's Too Late, Baby" done with Angus-like riff following the bass line. Powerballad nirvana, but do it gritty a la Faster Pussycat (You're So Vain) and/or... get ready, Bri, done like... Vain.

Also, man, you say "Leather Boyz" was poorly recorded. Is that just the limitations of the equipment back in the day? I mean ya got a top producer (tho, I guess he was, in reality, still cutting his teeth back then) in Benson. I would think, if they had the original master tapes, they could do a helluva job remastering this, if, indeed, they haven't already?

Hey, go over to Al's latest thingy, the "This Will Be My Short Aerosmith Post" and give us your thoughts, man. Funny, she calls it her "Short Post" and there I am blathering on and on, in contrast, very unintentionally, mind you...

Cheerz, Bro...

p.s. What happened to our good friend, Bonaduce?

Dude, your killing me. LOL

OK: Fave glam/hard rock act from the 80's to 90's -
LAW AND ORDER! That band kicks major ass.

As far as PBF goes: It was fun and I wish the current line up much success. They have the goods.

Favorite gtr player: Too many to name.

Leather Boys: The sound is very stunted by the sounds and effects that were popular at that time It sounds muffled and distorted. Still one of the best records of the era though.

The songs from LBWET that were re recoded for the Porn Stars record sound much cleaner and hold up better in my opinion.

Metal Buy...

Man, that's cool. I've got that Law and Order CD. I"m gonna dig it back out. Can you believe I had that on my iTunes and took it off. Just shows ya...what the hell do I know.

Dude, I sense you could really put together a killer band. Or produce. Or do A&R. There are gonna be some killer kid bands comin' up cuz of this Guitar Hero/Rockband craze. Sounds nuts, but I'm tellin' ya, it really is gonna come back. No jobs in the industry? Just frickin' do it indy.

I live in Florida and when I'm drivin' to work in the A.M., I can't help but notice these kids waitin' for the bus, swear to god, with frickin' Keith Richard's bird's nests and Jimmy Page Shags wearin' AC/DC shirts 'n sh*t! I won't even go there, as far as their little teenie bopper girlfriends are concerned, this ain't a day and age to go the same route Page did in that department, if ya know what I mean. But I digress... Already look at some of these bands that have gotten deals, albums and who are touring, etc., that Al's got on here, etc.

Same in the Hamptons of all places, where I was a couple of summer's ago. Battle of the bands of these kids who were playin' stuff like Priest and Maiden and had the look and all. Got a theory on it...ready...

Little Johnny gets excluded by his older brother and his crew who are all lowridin' their phat jeans with their baseball caps turned around, doin' their best 50 cent impression (not that I got a problem with that). So the kid goes and hangs out with his Dad in the garage workin' on his ride or somethin' and dear old Dad is listening to... yep... you guessed it... AC/DC... Priest... etc...

And that's all she wrote... The kidz will save Rock and Roll! Just too bad they ain't really listenin' to PBF or Law and Order, etc. I'm guessin' you're in L.A. I'm sure you are noticin' the tide is changin' there, I bet...

Rock On, Metal Buy!

p.s. You got any thoughts on Aerosmith? Read that comments thing under Al's post for that, and see if you got any ideas. Of course, just like here, I went psycho on it... If you think this sh*t was funny, check out what I wrote on there ... plus everyone else's stuff on it. Gotta say, tho, this whole PBF thing proved to be quite hilarious! Hey, man, you like Law and Order... what about Sea Hags? See if you can think of some others, man... I'll unearth that "Law and Order" tonite and pop it back on... and report back... You know, too bad PBF couldn't pull off a legit second album... or you guys couldn't get Steve to go for all new material... Was there any "new" stuff on "Porn Stars", not just re-recordings of the old stuff, not that I'll hold it against you guys for doin' it... I know what the dealio is with rights and all... Just curious if there was stuff on there that was "new" at the time...

Metalboy, if I were you, I'd start a blog. You have a lot to say, and most of it is worthwhile, or at least amusing :-)
November 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChristian
Christian,

Thanks for the compliments, both positive and backhanded, hahaha...

Don't worry, I am cognizant of the fact that I'm certifiably full of sh*t...

That said, I was thinkin' about startin' a blog...

But I usually don't have anything worthwhile, or worthless to say, depending on how you look at it, without the inspiration and prompting of what Allyson posts and everyone else's comments on it are. I was just realizing all of this about an hour ago (about 11:15, November, 11) before I came back to this PBF thread but while I was expounding about "White Lioncub" and "Aerosnore" on her other more recent posts here.

And I also realized then that if you'll notice, I usually wait 'til someone else, or actually more than one, weighs in first, because otherwise, I just plain usually don't know how to approach the subjects without first getting some kind of collective context which makes the conversation so much fun (albeit, I tend to make it less of a conversation when I go on and on, sorry, Rockerz).

For example, Allyson's just thrown on Europe's new stuff as her latest post. It's eerie because I just spent a half an hour this mornin' tryin' to figure out which songs off "Final Countdown" to chuck off my iTunes cuz it's so overloaded if I ever want to add anything new, it's bye-bye "Cherokee" or somethin' I actually want to keep in order to squeeze somebody like The Almighty or Law and Order on (my new but temporary phase, cuz I still like the shinier stuff like PBF way better).

And then I'm like, geez, here's Europe. Guess it wasn't "the final countdown" for them after all, but I'll have to see what someone says about it first...

Hey, man, I meant to ask you, you bein' from Australia and all... So many good bands outta there...

Did you see Rose Tattoo down there back in the day?

AC/DC?

Was there anyone else big down there who mighta put out some records down there but never cracked the U.S. market. I'm always lookin' for the Holy Grail and figured there might have been some hiding down there that really rocked out but just didn't do it beyond your beautiful island. And I don' mean Men At Work, sorry. Keep them workin' down there, too, if you can, hahaha...

As far as the new stuff, have you ever seen Wolfmother or Airborne? Man, you guys know how to rock!

What was the first show you ever saw down there and some others that might have "set the night on fire" for ya?

p.s. Man, you gotta weigh in on this stuff more, dude. YOU have good things to say! Also one of my fave all time movies is Australian (actually a lot are, but this one in particular), "The Coca-Cola Kid", with Eric Roberts. Man, classic sleeper, that one! Ever see it?
