Another Rocklahoma Headliner: Anthrax

The celebration of ANTHRAX's 25th anniversary is about to begin in earnest, as ANTHRAX, recognized as one of the founders of thrash metal, with worldwide sales in excess of ten million copies, will bring its brand of New York metal to Oklahoma when it kicks off the third annual, four-day Rocklahoma festival set for July 9-12 in Pryor, Oklahoma. ANTHRAX will headline the festival's July 9 opening night.

"We want to start the HEAVY DAY at Rocklahoma," said ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante, "and after we play nothing but heavy f%#*ing metal, Oklahoma will never be the same."

ANTHRAX's Rocklahoma festival appearance will be in support of the band's first new studio album in six years, "Worship Music", scheduled for a summer release, and the May 12 release of the limited edition, three-record vinyl reissue of the band's first album, "Fistful of Metal", which originally came out twenty-five years ago. "Worship Music" will mark the studio debut of new singer Dan Nelson who joins long-time members Benante and Scott Ian (rhythm guitar), Frank Bello (bass) and Rob Caggiano (lead guitar).

The Rocklahoma festival will be ANTHRAX's only North American concert appearance until they launch their own major trek here later this year. The Rocklahoma organizers will announce the full July 9 talent lineup next week.

so anthrax is going to be at a supposed hair metal festival? hhmmmm. well, if they do this then that day should be all HEAVY or thrash bands and it might work.

Well, Rocklahoma isn't JUST a hair/glam metal festival.... they had bands like; Queensryche, UFO and Triumph last year.... and they also have Saxon for this year as well... ;)

It's time to drop the stigma of JUST being a hair metal fest. Don't get me wrong , NO 90s alterna-crap will ever be a part of Rok , but it's time to bring in some heavier acts for sure.

It would be cool if Anthrax and Saxon play back to back. btw, Dan Nelson has a killer voice in case you haven't heard him.

wow anthrax getting a little desperate for cash... wow all i know is that the band makes fun of glam and hair bands all the time now there playing a predominate festival of glam/hair bands. seems like a little sell out to me. they go out of their to trash those bands now playing with them hmm....

How is Anthrax a headliner? They can only pack in about 400 people at a regular club. They don't even have Joey Belladonna.

Sad

rocklahoma was billed as a hair metal fest from the start and it was the first year. last year it became half 70s aor but they still billed it was a hair metal fest. my point is that they can't have it both ways. if they want to change what it is then fine, they have that right but don't keep calling it a hair metal fest when it clearly isn't. yeah i'd love to see dio, priest and maiden (yes i'm dreaming) but describe it as 80s metal fest or something, not hair metal. that's all i'm trying to say. personally i don't think it's a stigma being called a hair metal festbut..................

Anthrax celebrating 25th Anniversary of "Fistful of Metal" WITHOUT the singer...hmmmm great idea for that ass bag of douches.
I'm sure the calendar is clear for Neil Turbin to join the band. They have already fucked over Joey Belladonna (SEVERAL times, contrary to reports of the opposite), they jerked off John Bush, and now a guy from a New York gym is fronting a band on a milestone anniversary of an album he probably never owned.
The should just celebrate the 21st anniversary of " It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back"
Get Joey back and tour with Armored Saint w/John and let the fans hear the singers that care about!
