Cut the Fat - Number 7
Have you ever thought "Man, this is a perfect record except for this one track?" For the next week, I'm going to play "cut the fat." That's where I name an essential Glam record and tell you which track I think is a dud. In other words, the album would be stronger without the worthless track in question.
Today's essential Glam record is Motley Crue's Red, White & Crue. The double-disc set is a must-own for any Motley fan as it marked the band's big "comeback" and also includes all the hits.
But there's one dud.
"Use It or Lose It."
Why this track was chosen for the greatest hits is beyond me. The track comes from Theatre of Pain, one of Motley's weaker records...and it wasn't even a single. Couldn't the band find an awesome B-side - something to match "Black Widow" - instead of "Use It or Lose It?"

1. Live Wire
2. Piece Of Your Action
3. Toast Of The Town

I always thought Crue should have redone Vince's solo song, "Promise Me" and tacked that onto the "Saints of Los Angeles", which would have helped that come up a little, as there's another example of them blowing a chance to put out a legit album the way the Stones came back from the dead with "Some Girls".
Also, here's a crazy challenge...
To me, Ratt is the king of too much filler per album.
I mean, c'mon, as much as I love 'em when they were/are at their best, a lot of their album output you could only classify as "All Filler, One Killer", seriously. I mean, the dumb words of some of their otherwise super catchy songs just kills 'em for me.
So, how about taking the best from "Invasion of Your Privacy" and "Dancing Undercover" and combining them to create one album of all killer material.
What exactly is that material, I'm not sure.
I'll leave it to the experts to figure that one out, just as they so finely did with Use Your Illusion on the previous page of comments!...
... Now I'm gonna play with all of those suggestions on my iPod. I can tell just by looking at the basic running order suggested, it would have been a much more "serious" record, GnR.
And as for, Aerosmith "Rocks"...
I was gonna attack that one and I was even thinking about "Get The Lead Out", but I gotta say, I always liked that tune except for maybe the part where Tyler keeps repeating, "Oh no, Oh no..." to a really annoying guitar riff... But seriously, I think that album approaches flawless perfection, which is pretty funny, considering the total madness of that record and the circumstances under which it was recorded.

This collection reminds me why I love/hate Crue. Yes, they have some of the best songs out there, basically TFFL, SATD and DRF. Then they have entire album sides worth of chum. I mean really, how do you follow up SATD with Theater of Pain? Pink outfits, covers, ballads, crap I don't even remember the titles of, and I owned the record! And really, has any other band put out more greatest hits/live albums than actual albums?
