SIXX: AM Releases ‘Lies of the Beautiful People’

If you follow me on Twitter, then maybe you’ll remember that I Tweeted about how awesome the new SIXX: AM song “Lies of the Beautiful People” is – but I couldn’t discuss it here! With no way to really share the song, I didn’t think it was fair to write about something you all couldn’t enjoy, too.

Now, the song is officially out! The song and video debuted on Nikki’s website for the radio show Sixx Sense last night. The song is the first single from the upcoming album This Is Gonna Hurt. The single goes to radio March 1.

The good news is that the album date was actually pushed forward to May 3rd. The album is the companion to the book This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx (Harper Collins/William Morrow). The book is due April 12.

Now, back to “Lies of the Beautiful People.”

When I first heard the song, I immediately freaked out. As in, I woke up. It takes a lot to musically excite me anymore but “Lies of the Beautiful People” did it – I was hooked! On that first night, I listened to the song about 12 times in a row. James Michael sounds absolutely fantastic on the track. While the guitar solo isn’t long, it’s easy to see that DJ Ashba will be given a chance to shine on this new record. And Nikki, well, he’s Nikki.

Getting more complex, the song is a unique hybrid of modern and stadium rock. You can definitely tell the song is from a modern band…but it doesn’t sound much like anything else that is out there now. I’ve already read people saying the new song is a bandwagon-jumping attempt at fame. And that is just wrong. SIXX:AM is Nikki’s side project. I think he, just as everyone else in the world, realizes Motley Crue is still his main bread and butter. Motley has a defined sound, SIXX:AM lets him do something else. To complain something is “Too modern… or too different from the Crue” is completely missing the point.

I can’t wait for the new album. Based on “Lies of the Beautiful People” alone it will be in my top 10 of 2011. Let’s hope for a tour!

well.if you havent gotten the new Wildstreet..there is another example of great newGlam music that is not getting out there. Supposedly, it costs a bundle to get these records into Best Buy and other locations, but Airbourne did it. It is unfort that a VERY talented band does not have the backing. BTW..Dirty Penny's lead Guitarist is now with Wildstreet.

I agree with you about Reckless love and the Europe march with glam. How bout Hansel, Crazy Lixx, or Kissin Dynamite? Hansel made my top 10 this yr. If you like Reckless...do yourself a favor and get these too.

Got all these, boyz!

And Hansel was my Number One last year and Reckless Love my Second. Let's not forget, it was our lovely Glamistress who posted Hansel when they first came out.

I stumbled on Reckless Love and then found out she posted that one, too, months before I discovered them.

So, stay tuned to BBG!

p.s. Man, that sucks Dirty Penny broke up! I so wanted to catch them! I wish these kidz out in L.A. would crank up the scene on The Strip beyond the whole novelty act thing like Steel Panther, etc. and Bring It Back Alive! I'd say my fave of all the Nu Glam is "Can't Get Enough" by Miss Crazy. I don't even know if they're still around. Kenny O! Yeah, that Reckless Love is beyond awesome! Wish those guys would play over here this Summer at some of the fests. Too bad the promoters and record companies don't get it. They could bring them over along with many of the other notable Nu Glam bands of Europe. Why the hell duzn't somebody put together a showcase featuring those bands on The Strip? They could even call it HairFest or something. You could have a lot of the great oldies comin' back out of the woodwork as they've been known to do (like Wildside playin' there not so long ago), except time all the reformations around this Fest. And, of course, mix in the Nu Glam acts from both here and abroad. As I said before, the timing is right!

I saw Miss Crazy several yrs ago in VA opening for Kix. They were very good, but it was way too loud. This was before The lead singer did the Freakshow album..which I thought was very good, too. I guess that was a one and done deal.

The review is dead on point. Here is the fresh new sound millions of us have been waiting and hoping for. Nikki Sixx has found a new vein for his writing skills which put Motley Crue on top for years. The first SixxAM was excellent and I can't wait to hear the polished sound on the new release.
