I Think Steven Tyler Did A Great Job Performing the National Anthem

Steven Tyler performed the National Anthem before yesterday's AFC Championship game featuring the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. After Steven was done, Twitter went batshit crazy with criticisms and before long, "Steven Tyler" was trending and my timeline was full of lame American Idol jokes. Folks were even saying that Steven doesn't have any vocal abilities at all... and that Aerosmith doesn't deserve their Grammy awards.

Yeah, okay.

I get so sick of negative people and criticisms in general. I swear, it seems like all anyone wants to do anymore is criticize and complain. Here I was excited that a rock singer got the chance to perform the National Anthem at such an important game. Steven was introduced as "lead singer of multi-platinum selling band Aerosmith." NOT as "a judge on American Idol" or even just as "Steven Tyler." Nope. Aerosmith was mentioned for a reason: it's why Steven is famous and the hometown crowd at Foxborough, Mass loves him (and the rest of the band!) So suck it, haters.

Here's my take on it. I heard one wrong word. I heard some strain and I heard people singing with him. I didn't hear any boos. For what it was is wasn't a train wreck like some people are making it out to be. If your listening to critique it then you'll find something you hate about it. If your listening to it in the moment then it's fine on it's face value. If you don't like Steven's voice then your really going to hate it.
My mom hated it and she said his "scream" was uncalled for. I think that's what most people are up in arms about just like people get in a huff when someone does vocal scales during the national anthem. I personally sang this song yesterday and noticed because of my "style" I had some scratchy words come out of my yap. I think it's because I sing that way all of the time that trying to sing it clean would make my head explode or I'd have to retrain myself to sing that song clean.

I would take Tyler to represent ROCK over any HACK pop star. You want it sung properly get an opera singer...Steven did a good job under the conditions as Metalboy pointed out. At least you know that son of a bitch doesn't use TAPES ala his Idol CO STAR! Haters gotta hate, its their job. I'm sure Steven isn't losing ANY sleep over that LIVE performance! hahahahaha
