Deep Purple Vs. Rush - Who Do You Choose For the Rock Hall?
So by now you probably know the 2013 nominees for the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. In case you don't know, here's the list:
· The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
· Chic
· Deep Purple
· Heart
· Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
· Albert King
· Kraftwerk
· The Marvelettes
· The Meters
· Randy Newman
· N.W.A
· Procol Harum
· Public Enemy
· Rush
· Donna Summer
New this year, the Rock Hall is allowing for a fan vote! This means you will have some say (it isn't clear how much weight the fan vote gets) in picking one of the new inductees. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination... this means 1987.
I'm sure that the top vote getters from the BBG! crowd will be either Deep Purple or Rush, hence the post title. I'll let the cat out of the bag... and let you know I believe both bands deserve to get in. After all, five acts from the above list will get inducted. I also think Joan Jett and the Blackhearts deserve a nod, as does Donna Summer and Public Enemy.
Vote for your favorites now. Voting is open until Dec. 3.

Personally, because The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has screwed up, I admit, a fair amount, people seem to be using that as a crutch to deprive fans of what should be that rare moment, just once, when dreams come true and we can all share in the magic of an original or classic line-up one more time. Hell, if Pink Floyd could patch it up for a few songs during "Live 8" then jerks like Axl Rose and lesser acts like Van Halen or legends like Blackmore, The Pistols, etc., should put their crutches, demons and ancient history beefs aside for one night to celebrate their inimitable contribution to that thing we know and love, ROCK & ROLL!!!
p.s. Tell Cherie the first time I heard her killer vocals was hearing "Cherry Bomb" College Radio on Georgetown University's WGTB back in 1976! They woke me up one night around 2 in the morning and the DJ played the entire first Runaways album along with The Ramones first one, The Pistols' "Never Mind The Bullocks", Cheap Trick's first one and AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" (he thought the latter two along with The Runaways were Punk, too!). Needless to say, I had to sleep the entire day at school the following day! Now that's Rock and Roll! I also remember hearing them interviewed on WGTB not long after as I think they played at the school. You'd have to ask her if she remembers. Needless to say, I bought all The Runaways albums and CDs and still got 'em but didn't like the stuff after she left nearly as much. And I bought a Japanese import of the album she did with her Sister AND also her fantastic song, "A Little Bit More" from the Atsushi Yokozeki Project album! And i've got ALL of it on my iTunes! And I caught her on "That Metal Show" with Sorum and I'm just dyin' to hear the new stuff! Or, I guess you could just tell her I'm a big fan, hahaha!!!
