Anyone Attending Halfway Jam This Month?
Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 12:01AM
The 2012 edition of the Halfway Jam is set to go down July 26, 27 and 28 in Royalton, MN. The fest will feature Stryper, Jackyl, .38 Special, Lynch Mob, Bang Tango, Trixter and most importantly Queensryche with Todd La Torre on vocals. Is anyone planning on attending this fest? If so, I'd like to talk to you about a review -- especially of the Queensryche show. Please email me at allyson@bringbackglam.com if you are attending this event.

I've probably told this story at least three times on here, but I remember partying up on the roof by the pool of Le Parc Hotel right off Sunset with The Cult when they were recording "Sonic Temple".
Astbury invited me to join them to go see Kingdom Come that night. His girlfriend said, "Yeah! You just gotta come." I said, not knowing who the h*ll Kingdom Come was, "Really? Who do they sound like?" and Astbury chimed in, "Led Zeppelin." And I said, "Zeppelin? I LOVE Zeppelin!"
Then his chick said, "But the singer is much better than Plant and they're much better than Guns and Roses. You just gotta hear the singer. He's unreal!" And Astbury chimed in, "Yeah, unreal!"
I politely declined as I had a previous engagement (client dinner). I asked 'em how the show was the next afternoon when I ran into them again by the pool. "Fantastic! You really should have come." said Astbury's girlfriend. I couldn't get Astbury's attention, however, as he and Duffy were too preoccupied laffin' at Big Country who were frolicking in the pool unaware of The Cult's ire.
So, hey, GNR, ya goin' to Halfway Jam? This bill seems like it's right up your and Jeff's Alley, especially Queensryche, Jackyl and Trixter, hahaha!!! What do you think?
p.s. Appreciate the sentiment, Fletch, but I wouldn't necessarily call those nuts as "those in and out of my fold". I have no idea who these kooks are. And Gary, very well said. I didn't figure out what happened when I met The Cult back then until much later. One thing's for sure, nearly every band was envious of G'n'R those days, well, except Actress, right, Ace?! When I got home from that trip I picked up the cassette of Kingdom Come (Tower on The Strip was sold out) and heard what Astbury and his chick were talkin' about. Kingdom Come are great at aping Zeppelin, no doubt, but better than G'n'R? It was only when "Sonic Temple" finally came out I figured out why they felt the way they did about Kingdom Come. Just listen to that album and you'll hear it all too clearly... The Cult were Zeppelin freaks!
p.s. Remember, Gar, just as with some of my comments and opinions, as my Dad used to say, may he rest in peace, "When you're right, your right! And when you're wrong, you're WRONG!" The key is to have the ability to recognize when you're wrong and admit it. That's something the promoters of Halfas*ed Jam will probably never be able to do.
Seriously, this site makes my day more often than not. Even when I disagree (or when people disagree with me), it never ceases to be fun.
We all ought to get together at one of the all out Glam Fests or better yet, if ya can swing it, go on The Monsters of Rock Cruise in March.
Once on the boat, not only can we exchange stories, you'll be creating many of your own because you can randomly get into some dang funny conversations and situations with our Rockstar Heroes nonstop and sometimes even buy THEM a beer!
Rock on, Brother!
As I've said before, there is so much on that site, both old and new, that either rivals or is superior to most of the bands we talk about on here.
What's great is the fact that Allyson has posted about many an unknown hidden gem that I have subsequently found on heavyharmonies.com. It's all there, and then some, dude.
p.s. Another quick story... I found this site around four years ago when, oddly enuff, I was searching the web to see if the Bulletboys were together and maybe playing in Naples, Florida, since I found out Marq Torian, their lead singer, lives there. I was also living there at the time. Well, I never did find him but I found this incredible site, instead. Apparently, from what I've subsequently heard about this guy's, shall we say, outsized personality, it's a good thing I never ran into him in Naples or anywhere else for that matter (I was fortunate to catch them years before, in 1988, when they were at the top of their game, at the Catclub in NYC, however). It was because of a post Allyson did on the Bulletboys the same day I was Googling them that lead me here. Interestingly, shortly after that, she posted about a relatively unknown 80's Glam Metal band. Wanting to know more about them, I then Googled their name and heavyharmonies.com appeared as the first URL where I could find them. Happy Hunting!
Trust me, check out heavyharmonies.com, son. Just ignore the AOR Saga, Toto, Survivor crap and explore the nearly 600 Glam and Sleaze acts(most of them you've never even heard of) featured.
And just look at the wallpaper background of the site in case you are wondering what that site is really all about!
