A7X Burns The House Down

Avenged Sevenfold recently played live in Boston. The band is playing live on the back of their new album Hail to the King. The album is easily one of the best of the year. While I basically love every song on the new album, "Unholy Confessions" (below) from Waking the Fallen remains my favorite A7X song period. Indulge me. Not Glam, but it makes me oh-so-happy.

Guns N Roses is different for me.
'Appetite for Destruction' is glam metal but after that they completely went down their own path. The 'Use Your IIlusion' CD's remind me more of Jane's Addiction than any of the band's previously mentioned.
'Chinese Democracy' is like the 'Use Your IIlusion' stuff but w/some industrial touches.

If they had more CD's like 'Appetite For Destruction', I would have for sure put them on my list.

Hey, look, everyone IS entitled to their opinion, even if they're wrong, hahaha!!!
November 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
I don't really consider Guns N Roses glam metal either except 4 appetite for destruction. The use your illusions/chinese democracy songs sound like if you put 70's Aerosmith and Janes Addiction in a blender.

My big 4
1*Motley Crue
2*Hanoi Rocks
3*Faster Pussycat
4*Warrant

Listen to Metalboy! his opinion is almost always wrong, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Steel Panther are Weird Al Yankovic wannabes. Bret Michaels solo stuff is odd, half of his stuff sounds like old school Poison and the other half is awful country songs. David Lee Roth's Eat Em And Smile is a glam metal classic. I know some people just hate Pretty Boy Floyd but Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz is another glam metal classic.

On a side note about Guns N Roses nobody I know thinks they are glam metal!!!

GLAM METAL BIG 4
1.Hanoi Rocks
2.Motley Crue
3.Ratt
4.Faster Pussycat

Jakki, I wasn't directing any sort of comment toward you. It's intended for our great Metal DJ.

As far as other comments go, Devon, I must say yours regarding RUSH and Dream Theater just might be in "The Top 5 Funniest Things Said On BBG! In 2013!"

But I'll take it a step further -- Tom Sawyer sucks, too. Plus Geddy Lee's impression of Little Alvin from The Chipmunks makes Vince Neil's pale by comparison.

AND, while I'm at it, all of RUSH and Dream Theater, with the exception of Alex Lifeson, should become card carrying members of OVERPLAYERS ANONYMOUS. That's what one does in art and music if their hacks -- overcompensate with technique when lacking the substance to create genuinely GREAT ideas.

Case in point -- Michael Monroe. His voice is rough -- he even misses a few notes -- but his new song featured in one of Allyson's recent posts is an instant classic and so much better than any of the tripe SLUSH and/or Ream Theater could ever come up with.

I will say this -- and I've said it many times -- Alex Lifeson of RUSH, is one lead guitarist I've always admired and should chrome and capitalize his last name, LIFESON, lose the as*sclowns, and get on with it.

As Jakki reminds Mike, it's never too late to ROCK, as opposed to just Rock, or worse still, rock.

Jakki: my choices weren't based entirely on their song catalogue. Instead, it was based on their persona, cult status in the glam world and all-around party rock (or roth) anthems, attitude, philosophy, and lifestyles...lest we forget the cheese factor-sometimes is melted mozzarella, warm, smooth and creamy, sometimes it's impoted swiss, holes a plenty and flavored with lots of nuttiness, other times it's the 4 cheese blend...in other words, pure glam.

It's cool fletch & Metalboy!,
I was waiting to respond cause I wasn't sure where you guys were going or who you were responding to.

fletch,
I get what you mean now, but you would really choose Steel Panther over some of the bands previously mentioned. I could see how you would pick the other 3 but...
I'm not attacking you or nothing, I'm just curious.

Metalboy!,
I loved the comments about Rush & Dream Theater left by Devon & yours are icing on the cake.I could add more but I don't want to overplay my welcome.

Michael Monroe is the last of a dying breed. He was one of the originals & he is still cranking out killer glam metal.

So far, for vintage Glam Metal Big 4:

Motley Crue-5 votes
Hanoi Rocks-4 votes
Ratt-4 votes
Poison-3 votes

& then...
Faster Pussycat-2 votes
Warrant-1 vote
Twisted Sister-1 vote
Cinderella-1 vote

Sorry, fletch I didn't know what to do w/your picks because Bret & Steel Panther are more modern day glam metal acts.
I would love to know who else you would pick from the 1980's/early 1990's.

No worries jakki, most people don't know what go make of me...just ask nikki...I mean metalboy.

Hey, Bobby Sixxkiller! Missed that comment about me always being wrong! Now that's the funniest thing I've heard yet! The only time I'm wrong is when I'm lying!

What's more, I totally agree and find so true, paragraph 2 of your last comments, with the exception regarding "Eat 'Em And Smile", which I find mediocre at best, paling by comparison to Pretty Boy Floyd's "Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz", not only a Glam Metal masterpiece, but a Pop one, as well, thanks to producer extraordinaire, Howard Benson!

Once again you are so humble and modest Metalboy!
Of course you are never wrong, please do be so kind and forgive me, for I am a mere mortal and have seen the error of my ways.

On a serious note what do you not like about "Eat 'Em And Smile" the only songs I don't like on it are "Shyboy" and "Tobacco Road"

Metalboy, I agree. Now, what have any of those bands done in years, worth a damn, except Keifer's solo album ? Zilch. What have A7X done ? Only make the BEST hard rock album in decades, get out there doing the sort of shows we loved in the 80s, with the sort of guitar playing we all love. Their crime is not being middle aged and touring to milk the fans, but because they are genuinely creating new and exciting music.

Anyone who doesn't like Hail to the king, hates heavy metal. The end. It is CLASSIC heavy metal, exactly what it was intended to be. Sure, hate the first two for being screamo. I don't like them much myself. Hate the next three for being progressive ( although I love them ). But, this band not only gets better, they also keep evolving. The opposite of what the 80s rock dinosaurs do.

Why do you come to this website Christian?
It doesn't bother me at all when Allyson wants to talk about bands like Avenge Sevenfold because this is her playground and she can do whatever she wants with it. But you are the complete opposite of everybody that comes here.

Your last post is simultaneously hilarious and blasphemous. Avenge Sevenfold's only crime is that they try to put on a concert like Motley Crue but have the look and stage presence of a deer caught in the headlights. If the so called "rock dinosaurs" are so bad then why are Avenge Sevenfold trying so desperately to be just like them.

Did you copy and paste your comments from some clueless 13 year old emo girls post on a A7X fansite. What's next are you gonna say Justin Beiber is better then Michael Monroe because he is younger and has a better stage show.
November 19, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBobby Sixxkiller
What I really said is, those bands WERE great, and a7x is carrying that torch. How can you like the bands of 20 years ago, but hate bands carrying on that tradition, unless they do it in obscurity ?

And for the record, I mostly come here because of my long standing friendship with allyson.
November 19, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterchristian
I would love it if a new band came out that I liked but I'm not gonna just get in to a band because they are new. The so called metal music made today is just so lifeless. A7X just bores me to death. I just don't see the connection between them and the bands mentioned here. The only CD I have from a new band that came out in the 2000's is Ghost Of the Robot-Mad Brilliant.
November 19, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBobby Sixxkiller
Bobby Sixxkiller,
I have that Ghost Of The Robot CD as well.
It kicks a$$.

Well, you know, for some people, the familiarity of old music can't ever be competed with by new music. Of course there's new elements, just like there were people who loved Sweet but hated Crue in the 80s, it's all the same. Some people like to hear new things, and some like to hear the same things.

I will admit, A7X is not much like Crue, the singer can really sing, and the guitarists can really play. But, the overall genre is essentially the same, hard rock. If you compare to better bands from the 80s ( musically speaking ), then they are more similar.

I love hearing new music. I am always searching for music I've never heard before. I've discovered several great bands recently that I never even heard of from the 80's. I just wish new bands would make good music, that would be really cool. I guess I just have higher standards than you when it comes to music. The music/singers have to be really good for me to like a band.

That was really funny what you said about A7X being better musicians. Vince today with his voice being shot is still a million times better and Mick with his bone disease could outplay that joke of a guitar player from A7X. I'm starting to dig your sense of humor.
November 20, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBobby Sixxkiller
Bobby, you clearly know nothing about music. Motley tuned their guitars down a whole tone so that Vince could sing the songs. Mick is good at what he does, but he's very limited as a player. I can play any crue song. I can play perhaps 1/4 of the A7X songs, because they are GREAT players, and M. Shadows is a hell of a vocalist. That's why he gets asked to guest on things all the time. But, your definition of good is clearly 'sounds like the 80s', that's why your definition of 'new music' is bands you never heard before, that recorded in the 80s. Anyone who knows anything about music can separate 'is really good at what he does' from 'I like it'. In this case, I also like it, but you'd have to not know anything to say those guys can't play.
