Happy Anniversary, Glam Fans

It's December 3rd, 2013. That means today is the seventh anniversary of Bring Back Glam! It blows my mind that I've been updating this site every single day for the past seven years, but here we are. It's certainly been a fun ride and some of my best friends came about because of this site!

I thought it might be cool for people to share their favorite music-related experience of all time in the comments section today. You know, to reminiscence and what not.

You all know my stories. What have you got to share with me?

No Rock 'n' Roll Moment pales compared to another, my friend. \m/

p.s. I wish others would comment on here, though I know people tend to not look back after a few posts. Anywho, I think of all the people I know who saw Priest, Purple and Sabbath. I'm a heel for not making sure I saw them back in the day. Duh! What was I thinkin'?! I will list as many of the Rockstars I've met and still some bands I saw that I forgot about. Cheers!

Congratulations Allyson! I read more than I write but I'm here and I'm enjoying what you do. Thank you to you, and everyone, who contribute to BBG. It's wonderful to have others validate my passion for glam.

As far as rock memories go, Rita and I share the same ones (except for Kiss, only because she joined the army at age 11, I joined much later). She only missed a couple.......the Tesla trailer, general admission Motley Crüe, Dio before his show, very drunk Killer Dwarf (no Rita that night), chatting with Bullet Boys at Rock n' Roll Heaven, backstage with Lee Aaron and many amazing big and small venue rock and roll concerts!

Him: a while back, on a thread about steel panther, I posted that the next time I see 'em, I plan on throwing my underwear on stage. I got that idea from seeing (possibly) the same tom jones fan throwing her granny panties on stage at a neil diamond concert and reminiscing on that concert, I thought that it would be a hoot to do this at SP- but a guy (fletch specifically), throwing my tighty-whities on stage, instead. I actually envision this catching on during their shows. Who knows?. And people think I conjure this stuff on my own.

And to think, mb once wrote that neil diamond can't help me. See, my mind is like a "steel" trap (unintentional pun).

Thank you Allyson, and everyone associated with BBG. I don't hit the site daily, but I try to check it out weekly and comment when I can. Now for the musical memories:

I was raised in a household where old R&B and "Doo-Wop" reigned supreme, and then when I was old enough to learn and sing along to songs, it was a lot of Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Earth Wind & Fire, et al. I still have fond memories of a lot of those 70's soul classics, plus a steady diet of Elton John & Billy Joel. Then I won a KISS album at a party in the late 70's; I put the record on, and went "What the hell is this?!?" - in a GOOD way. I have had an affinity for the heavier stuff ever since.

Other favorite musical memories:

Seeing Judas Priest at the Live Aid benefit concert on TV at 11:30 AM in July '85. Black Sabbath reunion w/ Ozzy too. Loud and incredible, despite the crappy sound.

First proper concert I attended: 1986 - KISS w/ WASP opening in West Palm Beach, FL. It blew my mind, and I never stopped attending hard rock/metal shows to this very day!

Seeing Monsters of Rock in 1988. All day rock and insanity with Van Hagar, Scorps, Dokken, Metallica, and Kingdom Come.

Early headlining Metallica shows in 1987 on the "..And Justice For All" tours. Powerful. They haven't been good live in years, but from 1986-1994, there was no better live band.(including U2, Rolling Stones, etc.)

Seeing Lollapalooza '92 & '93. Different kind of music, but still amazing performances from Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, as well as opportunities to see many diverse bands in a live setting, including Fishbone, Primus, Ministry, Ice Cube, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Good to mix it up once in a while.

Woodstock '94. Amazing, and a highlight in my life to this day. I could write a book on that weekend, but suffice to say that there were many amazing performances, spanning a wide variety of musical styles. I will say that Nine Inch Nails almost stole the entire show, and then Metallica came on right after to show them how it's done. Two of the best live performances I've ever seen out of the 200+ concerts I have attended!

I also attended Woodstock '99, and although the music was heavier and still great for the most part, it wasn't quite the same as Wood. '94

Summer of 1994 - first Elton John & Billy Joel "Face to Face" tour. Absolutely incredible. Had the chance to see them together 4 times since, and it is always an amazing night of music from both of these timeless artists.

Sevendust live in Orlando at House of Blues - experienced this twice in the 2000's (they have played that venue on New year's Eve many times). They are my favorite "newer" rock band, they truly appreciate their fans, and they never disappoint live.

More recent highlights include the first 2 Rocklahoma shows in 2007 & 2008. Hard rock and glam metal made a huge comeback, and I was happy to see it for myself.

I have also been to both Monsters of Rock Cruises, as well as 2 of the past 3 M3 concerts, and these have all been amazing experiences. Seeing old pros like Kix, Tesla, and Cinderella, who all still "got it" live, as well as artists whom I missed in their heyday (Twisted Sister, Jackyl, Dangerous Toys, the mighty Loudness, Steelheart) has energized me, and gotten me back to my metal and glam roots.

For those who like it heavier, I also had a chance to catch Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer live in 2010, and while none of these bands were ever favorites, their power and force on stage cannot be denied.

I'm sure I left some memories out, but can't reminisce forever. Great memories. Keep rocking, fellow BBG friends!

There continue to be some amazing posts on here.

Yup, seen Diamond and Jones. I might as well not hide those facts. Compared to each other though, I think Jones still has it whereas Diamond gets by on his "cheese" charm (which isn't to suggest that they aren't both perfect accompaniments to wine).

Given how SP act on stage, Fletch, I would think you would make quite a (ahem) splash. Not sure if it would catch on. But it might inspire a few people to video the whole thing if they start ribbing you about it.

I,too, love Deep Purple and wish I had seen some Mach (you pick) of them. And I even love their new album. Morse is no Blackmore. But Blackmore is no Blackmore anymore. Morse does a fine job and it is still great to hear Paice and Gillen.

Yes, Overkill were great. This was the whole "middle finger" era for the band, with "In Union We Stand" getting some airplay . . . back when that mattered. And Necros were spastic and enjoyable.

And Gator is right: regardless your opinion of Slayer, they are able to do something to their crowds. Back at Ozzfest, they were able to convert a bunch of audience goers who weren't initially in to them. Lombardo (no longer with them, but Bostaph is no slouch), Hanneman (a sad, self-inflicted, loss), Araya, and King were a sight to behold. Primus? Not so much. I enjoyed their bass version of "Crazy Train." The audience looked at them with less interest than ole "corn cob girl."

. . . and I was at that Soundgarden Lollapolooza as well. Tried to scootch just a bit closer to watch them play "Superunknown" (I think) and got enveloped by the mosh pit. Bloody and bruised, I made it out . . . only to find that I had lost my friends and my ride home!

Really, these are some great stories that people shared. Allyson, you should be proud of what you created.
