Gene Simmons Licks Phil Collen

Phil Collen recently joined KISS on stage for a performance of "Deuce." The creepy lick happens at about the 50 second mark.

Nice to see Phil getting back to his glam roots.

The whole thing is quite amusing, indeed.

The irony is $immons doesn't hesitate to lick Collen right on the lips but at the end of the song, only extends him his clenched hand for a fist bump instead of a handshake or a high five/handshake as the rest of the band did.

What's really cool is KISS let Collen take all the solos.

p.s. FYI, Tony, Collen never stepped away from his GLAM Roots. Though Def Leppard was considered a late bloomer in The New Wave of British Heavy Metal Scene, they transitioned to GLAM METAL with PYROMANIA, with "Photograph" being one of the two classic anthems that define the genre, the other being RATT's "Round And Round". Of course, Collen played a big part in that transition when he went from GIRL to DEF LEPPARD.

$immon$ could take some lessons from Phil on class and how not to constantly run your mouth about how "great" a person you are.I was the biggest Kiss fan on planet earth in the 70's and even the 80's(my bedroom was literally completely covered in Kiss stuff in the mid 70's,lol)but Gene and Paul's constant whiny, greater than thou attitudes have pretty much spun me.They're both nothing more than money whores anymore who could care less about the fans who made them, unless of course those fans are paying about $1k for the "privilege" of meeting them for 5 minutes before the show at a meet and greet. Trust me,when they begin to die out,the "I'll never play with Ace and Peter" will disappear for one last huge payday. I'd all but guarantee that they WILL NOT walk away from that payday n a year or 2.

Metalboy! quit with the lectures.

Not Phil's fault, somebody "poured some sugar on him"....

Still love the first four Leppard albums. They rock!!! KISS on the other hand I couldn't care for em anymore. Money before music. Nothin wrong with money, but don't drag rock n roll through the mud while doing it with your KISS/Hannah Montana Glitter Glue and Granola Bars.

While Def Leapard and Pyromania is a classic album , I hardly think "Photograph" is one of the two anthems that define Glam. Maybe "Talk Dirty To Me".

I've never considered Def Leppard "glam." When did they ever wear makeup or tease their hair up to the ceiling? They wore jeans and t-shirts onstage and off. Just a great British hard rock band.

The Glam Metal band, Def Leppard wore make up* and are Glam Rock freaks, citing Mott The Hoople as their favorite band**. What the h*ll are you guys doing on here anyway?... BRING BACK GLAM!

*See the official video of "Photograph"
**Hear the name checking of all the Glam Rock artists on "Rocket"

The 5 Most Influential & Genre Defining Glam Metal Songs of All Time:

1) Round And Round -- RATT
2) Photograph -- Def Leppard
3) Livewire -- Motley Crue
4) Nobody's Fool -- Cinderella
5) Talk Dirty To Me -- Poison

Glam defining tunes? Totally there with round n round. I'd put it Rock Of Ages before Photograph though.

Phil Collen came in when half of Pyromania was already recorded and don't have any song writing credits on the album. He's glam alright but the rest of Def Leppard had made the transition without him too.

Thank you for the clarification, Snoot! I'm aware of Collen coming in halfway through "Pyromania" and that the transition was on it's way.

Just tell that to Jason and Tony, who are living in a dreamworld that Def Leppard are not GLAM METAL, The Greatest Form of METAL!

If anything, the fact that Collen came in later to ensure Def Leppard made the transition to a bonafide GLAM METAL band is all the more reason to celebrate their unabashed Glam Metal sound.

DJ! "Photograph" is more definitive because it's bigger and better, also having been released sooner than "Rock of Ages", a far less interesting composition.

Hey that was interesting. Lots of options this summer for concerts, seemed like the year got off to a slow start but things are in high gear now.

As Tony said, Metalboy, I don't need a lecture or history lesson on Def Leppard. I've been listening to them for over 30 years and I'm fully aware who their influences are. It's simply my opinion that they're not a "glam" band...metal or otherwise.

The problem is that you're unable to realize that someone other than yourself may have a valid opinion. You constantly tell people they're wrong when they don't like the same bands or songs as you. You've done it to me numerous times on here.

Some people on here may be impressed by your over the top posts, including the silly puns, the bands you have seen "point blank" and all those "facts" you claim to live by. It's safe to say I'm not one of them.

And while we're talking about "glam," sure Mott The Hoople was in their prime during the 70's UK glam scene. But I don't consider them a glam band in the truest sense. They were hardly androgynous and flashy like Bowie, Bolan, The Sweet, etc. When I think of "glam" that's what comes to mind. In the 80's, it's Crüe from 81-86, Poison, Faster Pussycat, Roxx Gang, Tigertailz. I've always thought "glam" was short for "glamorous"...something I wouldn't use to describe Def Leppard.

Jason -- By all means, feel free to live your life in a whirl of confabulation and denial. The Facts of Rock'n'Roll History are THE FACTS...

You are correct on all points except for your misconceptions about Mott The Hoople and Def Leppard.

Mott The Hoople are quintessential Glam Rock, their definitive classic, "All The Young Dudes" written and produced by Bowie, himself.

While it's true, Def Leppard were late bloomers in The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (MWOBHM), they made a conscious directional shift with their monumentally era defining classic, "Pyromania", forever burnishing their name to be among the first of 80's Glam Metal with the genre defining "Photograph".

p.s. FYI, I saw ROXX GANG twice point blank in 1988 at The Cat Club in NYC. They were incredible with guitarist Wade Hayes among the fastest I've ever witnessed. One of their best songs, "Fastest Gun In Town" particularly, was a fitting forum for him to showcase his awe inspiring talents. I've also seen Crue numerous times, twice, point blank, as well as Poison and Faster Pussycat, the latter two, point blank every time. Wish I had seen Tigertailz! Got all their sh*t! I mention the point blank position not to impress. I'm merely reporting how it all went down. Enjoy your trip back to Blabbermouth or wherever the h*ll it is you're trolling over from. Toodle-loo!

Again, you tell me I'm "wrong" for stating my opinion. I never said Mott's music wasn't "glam rock" just that they weren't as image orientated as their peers. Same with Def Leppard. To me, glam isn't just about the music, it's about the image, an over-the-top stage show and having a great time. In my opinion, Def Leppard doesn't meet all of that criteria. They had great tunes and loved to party in their prime, but I'd never say they were very image-conscious. They weren't much for theatrics either. I recall Joe Elliott bad-mouthing a number of Sunset Strip bands just a few years ago for worrying more about their eyeliner than their musical abilities. I'd even bet Joe would not be happy with his band being called "glam" or "glam metal."

Obviously our opinions on what "glam" is differ. I see this alot with a great deal of the bands discussed on this site. Tesla and Badlands are great example of two bands who get lots of love around here. I don't consider either of them "glam" at all. Are they a part of the same genre as Poison, Crüe and Ratt? Sure, they even toured with some of those bands. But that alone doesn't make them glam. Call em whatever you want, I'll do the same. Doesn't make either of us wrong. I'm sure you'll still tell me I am.

And yes, I read Blabbermouth numerous times a day, but I have no desire to have any "presence" there. First of all, most of the people who post there write even more ridiculous things than you. Secondly, the site requires you to be a member of Facebook to post, something I refuse to be part of. Feel free to look for me on the Sludge board though, where I've been a proud member since 1998.

As I was trying to say there before this borrowed wifi went down - Thanks Jason for saving me from arguing with Metalboy!
He obviously is unable to accept any opinion but his own, so there is no point trying to discuss it with him.

p.s. FYI Metalboy! I saw Tigertailz many times, even before the first album came out - but unlike you, I do not think that this makes me better than anyone else who may post here.
I mention this not to impress. I'm merely reporting how it all went down. Toodle-loo!
