I Alone

Glam fans, I'm beat.

Beaten down by work and other frustrations. To try and start the day on the right note I glammed myself up this morning: teased hair, new Motley Crue shirt, high heels, heavy eye liner. I look good, but I don't feel good.

I feel frustrated.

The good news is that I have several things to look forward to: many interviews, a long weekend next week plus a trip to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.  Rocklahoma is next month and  my real summer vacation in August.

heart.jpgSometimes a great song is enough to pull me out of a sad state. The other day I was listening to classic Heart. Ann and Nancy Wilson are a very talented duo, and they churned out some great glam in their day. Some of their best known hits include "What About Love," "Crazy on You," "Never" and "These Dreams." Of all their songs, "Alone" is my favorite. It's got a great sing-a-loud chorus that makes you want to shove your fist in their air.

Here's the classic video for "Alone:"

Last season on American Idol, eventual winner Carrie Underwood delivered her best performance when she sang "Alone." Carrie had the black leather jacket and the huge, teased hair. Even though she's country, Carrie is a little glam. Here's her take on "Alone:"

Guess what? Rockstar Supernova contestant Jill Gioia also performed the song. Here's her version:

Which version do you prefer?

In light of you not feeling well, I'll spare you my regular diatribe against American Idol. Instead, I'll say something nice about Nancy Wilson. A few years back, Rolling Stone had one of their many list issues about the 100 (or was it 500) greatest guitarists. There were only two female guitarists on there which wasn't a total shock, but their choices were: Joni Mitchell and Joan Jett! I thought if I was picking two female guitarists the easy answer would be Bonnie Raitt (not a big fan, but she's pretty good) and Nancy Wilson. Even Lita Ford should have beat out her former Runaways bandmate. I'm not a huge fan of Heart, but I do like Nancy Wilson. She plays with feel and emotion. She's done some good solo stuff that is fairly stripped down and makes her talent even more evident.

I think I like the original version the best. But, both of the other versions are very well done. I am surprised that I liked Carrie Underwood's but, I do. She did a good job. As did Jill Gioia.

I hope you feel better Allyson, just keep on thinking about the good things, and you'll get through it.

I was a religious watcher of Rockstar Super Nova, and I could not stand Jill Gioia. She came across as a royal bitch.

Heart was recently on VH1 Rock Honors, and I must admit that Wilson sisters certainly Kick Ass. I would love to see them live.

Can't believe how much of a cow Ann Wilson still is.

Here's a tip fat bitch....D I E T and E X E R C I S E.

Actually, I think it's cool that Ann Wilson doesn't have to fit other people's idea of how she should look. It doesn't really matter, because she can still sing.

Yeah, I agree - it's a shame that a talented musician nowadays has no chance of success if they are not also thin and pretty.

I agree with you guys. I didn't give a **** about how she looked, because she can still sing great!
