More Lists, More Opinions

Usually when I talk about a list someone else has written about Glam, it's out of anger. This time I've found a list that's actually decent - and worth sharing!

My friend Carlos Ramirez made a list of the "Ten Great Hair Metal Power Ballads"  for IGN Entertainment.

Cinderella - "(Don't Know What You Got) 'Til It's Gone"
Def Leppard - "Love Bites"
Dokken - "Alone Again"
Europe - "Carrie"
Leatherwolf - "Hideaway"
Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home"
Poison - "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"
Stryper - "Honestly"
Warrant - "I Saw Red"
Whitesnake - "Is This Love"

You can read Carlos' commentary here.

I love a lot of songs on this list, but I would definitely take out the Leatherwolf and replace it with Danger Danger's "Don't Walk Away" and also I'd ditch Stryper for Guns n' Roses "Patience." Other than that, I'd say the list is spot-on. I know most will disagree with the Warrant choice, but I do believe "I Saw Red" and "Uncle Tom's Cabin" represent Jani Lane's best writing.

What do you think?

I would have to add Kix "Don't Close Your Eyes" in there somewhere. And Skid Row "I Remember You"

Thank you for posting this. I'm actually trying to compile my own perfect collection, and suggestions are much appreciated.

PS. I'm going to have to add "Forever" by Kiss. Amazing stuff.

I agree - Uncle Tom's Cabin is the best Warrant song ever.

Forever ? Is that the only Michael Bolton song you like ?

The Scorpions in my opinion rule when it comes to the power ballad..So I have to say:
The Scorpions:Wind of change (The whistling at the beginning just give me goose bumps till this day..GREAT song)
The Scorpions:Still loving you also...Ilove Kix "Don't close your eyes" too..Also..Great White "Save your love"..Warrant "I saw Red"..Warrant "Blind Faith"..Poison "Life goes on"..So many great power ballads =)

Wheres Skid Row - I Remember You and Steelheart - Shes Gone?

I'd have gone for "Nobody's Fool" rather than "Don't Know..." And for Poison I've never liked "Every Rose". Should be "Something to Believe In" for me.

In fact, I disagree almost all those choices. Still it's nice to see such a list worded positively for a change..

I think that's a really good list. Even though I do love the Leatherwolf song "Hideaway", I never considered it a "ballad". And I'm not the biggest Stryper fan, but other than that, I agree, good list!
This is how my list might look:(it's hard to narrow it down)...in no particular order

- Skid Row "I Remember You"
- Winger "Miles Away"
- Poison "Every Rose Has It's Thorn"
- Whitesnake "Is This Love"
- Steelheart "I'll Never Let You Go"
- Warrant "I Saw Red"
- Cinderella "Through The Rain"(often overlooked)
- L.A. Guns "The Ballad Of Jayne"
- Danger Danger "I Still Think About You"
- Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home"

Although everyone has given some fantastic suggestions, I can't believe no one has mentioned Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi writes some of the most amazing ballads ever, in my opinion. I would add I'll Be There for You or Never Say Goodbye to the list.

where was my brain? Christine I can't believe I forgot Bon Jovi..Love "I'll be there for you" and "Never say goodbye" I also love "Bed of roses" too...Another great power ballad by Bon Jovi I wish they released as a single was "Without love" off Slippery when wet and I also love 'Thank you, for loving me"...Geez I wish Bon Jovi would go back to what they really are.

touch call on this as there are so many great ballads why just pick a few when we can listen to them all, theres tons of bands with great ballads that never made it big like beau nasty-paradise in the sands, junkyard - hands off, beau coup-sweet rachel to name a few, but listen and enjoy

Leatherwolf a power ballad? I know of "the calling".
Anyhow the lists mentioned above are great and I wouldn't argue about the quality of any song listed.
