Bulletboys on a Side Stage...

bulletboysinaction_wm.JPGWell, the Bulletboys are playing Rocklahoma -- they were added yesterday to the TriLabel side stage. You might recall Marq Torien, et. al. played the mainstage last year. In fact, The Bulletboys gave one of the best performances of 2007, but it was early in the day and I think people were tired because the crowd wasn't very big or active.

I honestly can't even keep the Rocklahoma lineup straight anymore. I swear, I'm going to have to print the schedule - and by that I mean wait until the day before the event to make sure I get every late add - and then laminate the damn thing. If I don't have a piece of all-weather paper in my hand telling me who is playing when - and where - the coverage on this website isn't going to be pretty. Just thinking about the four days in the oppressive Oklahoma heat, wandering from stage to stage makes me twitch. You'll notice I say four days, because I've decided not to go to the pre-pre party day on Wednesday. My flights were booked months ago, as was the hotel and the rental car -- and the Glam rock husband drew the line in the sand at changing all our plans. I actually understand where he's coming from for once.

So, to the best of my ability here is the most current Rocklahoma line-up:

Wednesday, July 9:

Ratt
Jackyl
All Star Fantasy Camp
Firehouse
Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp Jam

Thursday, July 10th:

Bret Michaels
Sebastian Bach
Dokken
LA Guns
Enuf Znuff
Vain
House of Lords
Jet Boy

Friday, July 11:

Triumph
Extreme
Lita Ford
Night Ranger
Living Colour
Kingdom Come
Armored Saint
XYZ

Saturday, July 12:

Cinderella
Warrant
KIX
Lynch Mob
Trixter
Black N Blue
Tora Tora
Every Mothers Nightmare
Pretty Boy Floyd

Sunday, July 13:

Queensryche
Tesla
Ace Frehley
Steelheart
UFO
Zebra
AXE

Side Stages:

The Retrospect Records stage: JESTER, SIDEKIXX, PAIR-A-DICE, FRONT RUNNER, TOMMY HAD A VISION, VALOR, GYPSY BLUE, WHITEFOXX, BLUE TIGER, WILD AUGUST, MESSANG, PAUL SHORTINO, MARIAH, WARRYOR, BAD CANDY, LORRAINE, NASTY NASTY, REAL STEEL, CUTTLASS, VYPER, MASS, BAD CANDY, ONEY, STRIKEFORCE, HERAZZ, RECKLESS, HEARTLESS, RON KEEL, WARRYOR and ALIBI.

The Tri-Label Group stage: ASPHALT VALENTINE, AZRAEL'S BANE, BANGALORE CHOIR, BONESHAKER,  COCKPIT, DANGEROUS INC., DEATHRIDERS (NEIL TURBIN), DIRTY PENNY, DRIVE A, EXIT 27, GODS OF KANSAS, GYPSY PISTOLEROS, KARNEVIL (DARIO LORINA), KRUCIBLE (featuring Lance King), LIPSTICK MAGAZINE, MINDFLOW, ODIN, ORDER OF NINE, POWND, SACRED DAWN, SEX DEPARTMENT., SHADOWSIDE, THE JAKALS, TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION, WARMACHINE, and now THE BULLETBOYS.

Some of these side stage bands are playing Wednesday too, and I think in a couple instances some bands are actually playing both stages on different days.

I have to admit I'm really surprised the Bulletboys are playing a side stage. No, I don't have grandiose thoughts that the Bulletboys were ever as big as Motley Crue or anything like that, but I do think it's odd some lesser known bands are essentially headliners and some 80s Glam favorites are - literally - shoved to the side. I suppose this could have something to do with the "no repeat" policy Catch the Fever Festival organizers instituted this year...but now there are repeats on the mainstage (*cough* Steelheart) so that argument doesn't hold weight anymore.

***On a complete other note regarding Rocklahoma, I want to meet all of  you that are going to the festival! If you want to meet up, send me an email and we'll try to make plans.

Allyson -
It would super cool to met up with you and your husband. I am attending for the second year solo from Michigan sitting in Sec. B Row 6 Seat 1. Please look me up. I am an avid reader of your website.

Take care!
Marc

PS - I suggest you dig up a couple goodiess from the vault first a band from Detroit called SEDUCE. They were in the Decline of Western Civilization Pt. 2 movie and are playing select cities with Motorhead, Heaven & Hell, and Testament this summer. They rock and are still slammin' the glam to this day. All still an original power trio. Second, also from Detroit, the Heavy Metal Horror Show a band called HALLOWEEN, they are still playing and are a blast. Each band has many videos on Youtube and I know you and your readers will love them. 80's glam all the way!

you got something against steelheart...compare the musicianship and stage showmanship to other bands that are playing this show....you must be high... these guys blow away nearly all the mainstage bands as it stands ... People in the music industry respect these guys.... thats why they are on the main stage again...obviously, your not on the inside....and thats cool... just be a fan, and stay a fan.... let the powers that be, do the decision making....

Is jcrcdc your real name, or do you go for the dickless pseudonym when you attack people online ?

Steelheart has one original member AFAIK, I am sure that he has picked ring ins who can play, why would he not ? He also has an awesome voice. Now, go to any mall in America and offer people $500 to name 3 Steelheart songs. Odds are low it will cost you more than gas to get there. THAT is why they are not a headliner, they had no big hits. They are a good C level band, that's about it.

I don't see any evidence that Allyson attacked Steelheart in any case. She just mentioned that they are playing again after ROK said there would be no repeats. Which is true, right ?

I would love to go to Rocklahoma! I'd do anything, and I will go one of these years.
Just be happy that you get to go Allyson, and I hope you have a great time!

AND, about Steelheart not having any "big hits", the song, "I'll Never Let You Go" reached #23 on the Billboard charts....I'd say that's pretty good.
And Steelheart is one of the most underated bands of the genre, Matijevic has the best range that I've heard.

Well, I can't speak for their chart positions in the US, I am an Aussie. OK, they are a one hit wonder, thanks for the info. I stand by my point - most people do not remember them. That is what makes positions on a festival lineup, not what fanatics like you or I know.

And I already said he is an amazing singer, no argument there.

Just popping my head in to say that I saw Steelhart back in the day and yes, he has an awesome voice. But they don't rate main stage again this year - especially since there's "no repeats" on the main stage.

Christian - kudos. Took the words right out of my mouth. As my wife and I are fond of saying, "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie Oi, Oi, Oi!"

SteelHeart got invited back to the mainstage by a huge popular demand! They kicked so much butt last time, they deserve to be on the main stage again (period)....screw the repeat rule!!

"SteelHeart got invited back to the mainstage by a huge popular demand! "

I doubt that, very much. Not that I doubt they are popular, I know other bands that were pushed hard for, and the ROK people ignored them. Hell, the ROK people have ignored what 'popular demand' is, all year. Why claim they started when you agree with something they did ?

Doubt it all you want dude, it won't matter

Show Details: Due to an overwhelming amount of requests, Rocklahoma has asked Miljenko Matijevic/SteelHeart to come back and perform on closing night Sunday July 13, 2008. The band will hit the main stage at 6:00pm. See you there!

There are other repeat bands on the main stage...such as; Ratt, L.A. Guns, Enuff Z Nuff, and Dokken...so I don't get what you guys are saying about that?? Oh well...
I think it is going to be a great festival again this year!
June 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenteraXe mAn
Hmmm...great point, we don't have an answer for that, do you Christian?? no repeats (cough SteelHeart) started this whole thing.....what gives?! Why's Allison picking SteelHeart to disrespect??!! They kicked major butt on that stage!!

christian, people who know me, know I don't back down or pussy out from anything ...My brother is founding member ,and lead guitarist, Chris Risola, so , your wrong.. there are 2 original members. only guitarist at rocklahoma that can be at his level, is George Lynch. I could tell you inside stories about the LA glam poser bands that are playing there... but why?.. you probably love them... to each his own... again, why do you think the writers and producers of ROCKSTAR hired Mili as the vocalist in the movie... I got alot of other cannon foder for you, but whats the use?.. your a fan ..not a musician, and if you were or are, check out Tangled in reigns, Steelheart's second disc..and compare it to the music out in '92. all those singers in other bands that "talk" sing, instead of really singing...etc.. being a showman is great ...if you can play great at the same time... I've been to many shows,, most bands can't pull it off live, steelheart always has...If they sucked, I'd be the first to say....
