What I Like (Learning) About You
It's late and I'm exhausted...and also getting sick. I've been sitting, staring at the computer for about an hour. Often the words come easy, sometimes they are a struggle. Other days, topics are in between. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily struggling with this piece - it's more an issue of fighting fatigue.
It dawned on me yesterday - sometime after breakfast and before my second cup of overpriced coffee - that you know way more about me than I know about you. The single best part of Rocklahoma for me was meeting those of you who stopped by to say hello. Truly a blessing. Reflecting on those meetings lead to the realization that I pepper a lot of random facts about my life in what I write here.
Thanks to this website, you know my favorite bands are Aerosmith and Motley Crue. You know I'm married, I live in Ohio and that I'm an only child. I had a good childhood, with laid back parents and my mom really likes rock music.
Sometimes I learn things about you, especially if you're a regular reader. I mean, I now know Christian personally - he traveled from Australia so we could go to Rocklahoma together. There are others I know personally too, and I count among my friends.
Some people like to read and never comment. I respect that - in fact, that's what I mainly do on a lot of websites. Still, I think just once in awhile it's good to let your presence be known.
I guess the easiest way for me to learn more about you - and the bands you want covered - is to simply ask.
Here's a few questions:
1. What is your favorite band?
2. What was your very first CD/album/cassette?
3. What bands do you want to read about more here on Bring Back Glam!?
I'll tell you that I have a laundry list of features planned for the coming weeks, including interviews and reviews of about 78 new CDs I have (and no, that number is not exaggerated!)
In case you're wondering, I do remember my first actual CD - it was Mariah Carey's self-titled debut, and I got it with a small CD player for a Christmas gift about a million years ago. I don't remember my first cassette - but I'm pretty sure it was Glam.
Here's Poison's cover of "What I Like About You"

This is such a hard question, but for me it's always a toss-up between, Poison and Motley Crue.
2. What was your very first CD/album/cassette?
The first hard rock album that I got was, AC/DC's "Back In Black".
3. What bands do you want to read about more here on Bring Back Glam!?
Well, honestly, I think you already do a really good job of covering a variety of bands, from the big/well known ones to the more "obscure". But I really do enjoy reading about the lesser known bands, so any coverage on bands like that would be cool.
Keep up the great work Allyson, I come to this site daily. =)
My favorite band is, by far, Queen. Guns N Roses comes in a close second. Each and every of my speeding tickets happens to be courtesy of GNR and my lead foot. Also, the "Girls, Girls, Girls" Motley Crue video was the first time I ever remembered being sexually aroused....strange feeling for a second grader. Sorry, I know that must be too much info, but I had to share.
My very first cassette tape was Bobby Brown, Don't Be Cruel. I thought I was hot shit! A few years, and puberty, later I bought my first CD. It was Soundgarden, SuperUnknown.
I like what you are doing on Bring Back Glam. Keep on keeping on! Everytime I get to steal a moment at work and surf the 'net, this is the first place I come...then I go see what Perez Hilton has to say.
Another column might be on the best opening acts you've ever seen at a concert (where the opener was better than the headliner).
Favorite band: Winger, followed by Firehouse (saw them when they were White Heat) and Queensryche.
First album: I think "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown". (blush). First Cassette: Dan Fogelberg's "The Innocent Age" (RIP Dan). First CD: Asia Live in Moscow. (Followed shortly by the first 2 Winger CDs). ;)
First cassette bought? Shout at the Devil and Look What the Cat Dragged in. (same day, dad thought those girls were cute haha)
You are doing a great job Allyson. I love the site.
2. My first album? well, I remember in the '80's my mom was a fan of Amy Grant, and used to listen to her all the time. As a result, when I was a kid I was a huge Amy fan. I think one of her tapes (haha cassettes...sometimes I forget about them) was the first I ever owned...I remember getting it in my christmas stocking one year. I don't have any clue what the first CD I ever owned was, but I know the first CD I ever remember picking out and buying was something by Creed. before then I wasn't really into music, so everything I had was bought and given to me by other people, and when I bought that Creed CD it was the point in my life where I really started to get interested and wanting to get more music. And imean, they were popular around that time, so that's what I got...
as for your third question...no idea, haha. Imean, more Crue is always good! I wouldn't complain about that haha. But honestly, I don't have any complaints, anyway. Everything you write is great. I really enjoy your blog, thank you :-)
2. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle
3. I think you are doing great! I'd love to see more Big Bang Babies, Electrick, The Zeros, Blackboard Jungle, Enuff Z'Nuff, Johnny Thunders, New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, Stryper, Guardian, Four Horsemen, and any info you can find on Bone Angels.
Thanks for the site!
Favorite band: Crue - always and forever.
The very first CD I bought was Vixen - something about a band full of girls that rocked that I thought was cool - since I course wanted to be them! I don't remember my first cassette or album, but I have Crue on vinyl up until they stopped making vinyl - with the exception of the Leathur release (which I now have on CD, of course). I enjoyed your piece about acquiring the Shout at the Devil album - had to get mine out and smile cause mine's an original,
purchased by my own hard earned money, as it was released!
I enjoy reading your blog, you do a great job - of course I'm gonna say more news on CRUE, but if I had to think about it, I'd have to say I'm stuck in the past and I want to hear about the old Glam bands that started in all - Poison, Cinderella, Ratt, etc. I find it increasingly hard to stay up to date with the new stuff - maybe I'm getting old - but I'd much rather put in Crue and relive the old days. Matter of fact, I'll be heading to see the Crue tomorrow in Missouri with my best friend from those days, so we'll be rocking out just like the old days. Thanks to you - I'll know what songs to expect!
Keep up the good work and throw me a Crue bone every once in a while!
Sparky
I have no idea what my first cd was.
As for what bands should be covered, I think that this site already does a good job. Of course, I'd like to see more on any of the bands I mentioned above. Especially Europe.
Favourite band is without question Guns N' Roses.
What my first cd was I can't remember. First rock-cd I remember getting is a Twisted Sister one anyway.
I would like to read more about Hardcore Superstar. Surely the greatest new band out there.
Keep up the great work!
Favorite bands: Van Halen, Def Leppard, Queensryche, Ratt, Dokken, Metallica
First CD: ACDC-Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Quiet Riot-Mental Health
Bands I am interested in hearing more about...Anyone from the 80's and early 90's!!
How about a section concert reviews could be posted?
Rock on!
The rest of the Top 5 is Judas Priest, Saxon, UFO and a tie between Queen and Iron Maiden.
2. 1st album was KISS - Rock And Roll Over (1976). Mom bought it for me in the Summer of '77 when I was 5 yrs old because I was obsessed with the band's cartoon makeup. The album cover looked like a comic and I must have annoyed her so much that she broke down and bought it. I think I listened to it once and just stared at it for a few more years until I started getting into music in '80.
3. I wouldn't mind more new bands they are the future of Glam. Keep doing what you're doing, its a fun site.
