What I Like (Learning) About You
It's late and I'm exhausted...and also getting sick. I've been sitting, staring at the computer for about an hour. Often the words come easy, sometimes they are a struggle. Other days, topics are in between. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily struggling with this piece - it's more an issue of fighting fatigue.
It dawned on me yesterday - sometime after breakfast and before my second cup of overpriced coffee - that you know way more about me than I know about you. The single best part of Rocklahoma for me was meeting those of you who stopped by to say hello. Truly a blessing. Reflecting on those meetings lead to the realization that I pepper a lot of random facts about my life in what I write here.
Thanks to this website, you know my favorite bands are Aerosmith and Motley Crue. You know I'm married, I live in Ohio and that I'm an only child. I had a good childhood, with laid back parents and my mom really likes rock music.
Sometimes I learn things about you, especially if you're a regular reader. I mean, I now know Christian personally - he traveled from Australia so we could go to Rocklahoma together. There are others I know personally too, and I count among my friends.
Some people like to read and never comment. I respect that - in fact, that's what I mainly do on a lot of websites. Still, I think just once in awhile it's good to let your presence be known.
I guess the easiest way for me to learn more about you - and the bands you want covered - is to simply ask.
Here's a few questions:
1. What is your favorite band?
2. What was your very first CD/album/cassette?
3. What bands do you want to read about more here on Bring Back Glam!?
I'll tell you that I have a laundry list of features planned for the coming weeks, including interviews and reviews of about 78 new CDs I have (and no, that number is not exaggerated!)
In case you're wondering, I do remember my first actual CD - it was Mariah Carey's self-titled debut, and I got it with a small CD player for a Christmas gift about a million years ago. I don't remember my first cassette - but I'm pretty sure it was Glam.
Here's Poison's cover of "What I Like About You"

U2. I know they're certainly not glam, but they're my fave. For glam-type bands i'd say my faves are Extreme, White Lion, and Ratt.
2. What was your very first CD/album/cassette?
My first cd was "Time's Up" by Living Colour (I so would have loved to see them at Rocklahoma). My first cassette was "Victory" by the Jacksons. I'm not quite sure what my first album was. It was likely either something by Duran Duran or Culture Club. I know one of my first was "Metal Health" by Quiet Riot. I was only like 7 or 8 years old and I remember being surprised my Mom would let me listen to a song called "Love's a B*tch."
3. What bands do you want to read about more here on Bring Back Glam!?
I think you do a great job and have a nice variety of well-known and more obsure artists you cover. I'd love to see you do something on Kingofthehill. They put out one major label cd in the early 90's and had a pretty good sound. Nothing groundbreaking but it's a good cd.
If you ever want to learn more about my crazy life, feel free to visit my blog at 1in150.wordpress.com. It's about my adventures as a father of a child with autism.
1-Favorite band-It alternates between Sabbath and Maiden
2-First album-It was a thing of Star Trek stories that were really corny (I still have it though). This was in the mid-70's.
First cassette-AC/DC's Powerage or Deep Purple's Machine Head. I got them both around the same time, but can't remember which was worse. This was early 1980's.
First CD-The day I bought my first CD player I also bought Venom's Prime Evil, Hanoi Rocks'Self Destruction Blues, Megadeth's Peace Sells and Flotsam and Jetsam's No Place for disgrace. This was 1989 or or '90 I think.
3-Write about what you want, I have no preferences.

3. What bands do you want to read about more here on Bring Back Glam!? Hmmm...You do a good job of covering everyone. So I can't answer this one :)

2. What was your very first CD/album/cassette?
3. What bands do you want to read about more here on Bring Back Glam!?
YO YO YO......it's me Kari!
here are my answers: 1. Fave band, hands down VAN HALEN! 2. First cd/album/cassette, CD-Elvis,On Stage 1970 / Album: Monkees 20th anniversary / Cassette: this one I don't remember. My first glam cassette that I remember buying with my own money was Poison, Open UP and Say Aahh 3. Bands on BBG: Dirty Penny; Lynam; Steel Panther (formerly Metal SKool, formerly Metal Shop)
Ally: hope you are able to rest this weekend. Talk to you soon. Ready to ROCK Labor Day Weekend at Rock The Bayou.
Anyway...
Favorite bands: Black Sabbath (from 1970 to 1975), Slayer, Metallica's first five albums, AC/DC, Iron Maiden.
First LP: "The Story of Star Wars."
First cassette: I don't know for sure, but I think "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen.
First CD: "Blow Up Your Video" by AC/DC.
What bands do I want to see more coverage of? I can't think of any... your website is utterly fantastic. I will say that I am really looking forward to your coverage of Rock the Bayou next year. Your review will be one of the primary deciding factors as to whether or not I go there next year.
My first album was Destroyer by Kiss.
I'd like to read more about Celebrity Skin!
To preface this comment, I am a HUGE Motley Crue fan, like yourself they are my favorite band, and I have been listening to the CD almost every day for 3 weeks, so I feel like I truly understand what each song has to offer.
My comment regards which two songs you said were stinkers: "Chicks=Trouble," and "White Trash Circus." I fully agree with you that Chicks=Trouble is the worst song on the CD, and might be the worst song that the band has ever written. But, "White Trash Circus" is my favorite song on the CD!!! I beg you to go back and listen to the lyrics again, but this time instead of judging them, appreciate them in the context of SOLA being an autobiographical CD. Not to mention musically, I feel that this song is a microcosm of each band member's best talents . . . Nikki Sixx and his eternally memorable pre-choruses and choruses, Vince Neil and the way he delivers the verses, Mick Mars with a great chunky guitar riff, and Tommy Lee holding the whole thing together with his sometimes punk, sometimes pop, and all-the-time rock drumming style.
This CD grows on my with every listen, I think it is exactly the album Motley Crue should have released (except for Chicks=Trouble), and please, please, please, from one Cruehead to another, listen to White Trash Circus again with an open mind. After all, with Motley Crue being your favorite band, and their music being a big part of your life, how can you not appreciate "we're the voice, we're the voice, we're the voice in your head"?
Anyway, long live the Crue, long live glam, and keep up the good work with your blog!
2. First LP - I think it was Twisted Sister's "Love is for Suckers." I didn't actually get it until the 1990s. I always listened to my brother's and next door neighbor's records growing up (everything from AC/DC to Twisted Sister to White Lion)
First cassette - I think Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel." And I still like it, so shut up.
First CD - Bob Dylan's "Greatest Hits, Vol. 2." Shortly after that the "Woodstock" soundtrack.
3. Band I want to know more about - I'm not sure really. I'd like to hear some "Where are they now" type stuff on Vito Bratta, Vinnie Vincent, etc. The guys that really aren't on the scene anymore. Find out what they've been doing for the past 15-20 years.
Aerosmith and Motley Crue
1st cd is AC/DC's Back In Black
FAv. Cd either Motley Crue's Shout or Motley Crue's Saints or Every AErosmith CD! :)

3. You do a great job of covering everything just keep doing what you do. I hit the site everyday just to see whats going on and know that there are people out there that appreciate and keep the music alive.
