Now I'm Obsessed with Bon Jovi; Top 5 Videos

Bon Jovi announced a world tour a few days ago and since that time I've sort of been obsessed with the New Jersey band. By obsessed, I don't mean that I've only been listening to Jovi tunes the past few days, because I haven't any more than usual. I've just been fixated on planning a way to see one of the concerts.

Remember a long time ago when we talked about bands our "master lists?" Bon Jovi is on my list. There are not a whole lot of bands I haven't seen live at this point: Bon Jovi, the Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden are basically the big ones. It's highly likely all three of those acts will hit the road in 2010, so I've got a good shot at seeing them. Of course, Bon Jovi isn't coming to Ohio, which sort of sucks. I'm now totally trying to plan an entire getaway around the Jovi show in Chicago...set for July 30. Yes, I'm seriously planning a concert weekend getaway that won't happen for nine months. Seriously. My closest friends get it, and quite frankly they expect such Type-A behavior from me at this point.

Here's what I like to do: plan which destination I prefer, select a hotel, check airfare, select other activities...then present the entire plan to my husband and others. The way I see it, I've done all the vacation research in advance and everyone else just has to buy in to my diabolical schemes.

This Bon Jovi scenario stresses me out because I'm worried all the show tickets will be sold by the time I get it together. For all my panicking, I'm sure it will all work out. I just refuse to pay a scalper, a massive overcharge on eBay or join the damn official fan club to get a good seat.

With all that said, here's my choice for the Top 5 Bon Jovi videos:

"Livin' On a Prayer"

Bon Jovi - Livin on a Prayer

"Bad Medicine:"

Bon Jovi - Bad Medicine

Stephen | MySpace Video

"Lay Your Hands on Me:"

Bon Jovi - Lay Your Hands On Me

Fiddler | MySpace Video

Ok, this next one is a Jon Bon Jovi solo track, but I like it a lot so I'm including it here --"Blaze of Glory:"

Bon Jovi - blaze of glory

metal kat | MySpace Video

"Wanted Dead or Alive:"

Bon Jovi Wanted Dead Or Alive

Frank | MySpace Video

Not only is "Wanted Dear or Alive" clearly Bon Jovi's best video (and song) -- it's also one of the best Glam tracks of all time. The tune pretty much sums up the entire genre in 4 minutes...and Jon has never looked hotter. Can't ask for more than that.

If it was the same Bon Jovi as 15-20 years ago, I would definitely find a way to go. But their last few albums have gone too far the wrong direction for my tastes, and I don't want to sit through their current material to hear the classics.

I will agree with JT, tickets are just too expensive to see and hear a band play 6 or 7 songs that you really want to hear. Don't get me wrong, some new material is fine and welcomed but is half a set of "old" material too much to ask for? Old material for Bon Jovi is music he refuses to play any longer. If I hadn't seen them live before I could see shelling out some money to get a good seat and take a band off of my "have to see" list. But someone like me who has seen them several times in their prime when they were the opening band and seeing them at their peak during Slippery When Wet and New Jersey, I just can't justify paying $80 for this show or any other for that matter. Now you can question me about paying $35 for the KISS show in Nashville Oct.28. I know however that KISS will be playing the "hits" because they have been doing basically the same show for years. I know exactly what I'm paying for.

Like Chris, my interest in Bon Jovi peaked in the late 80's when I saw them on the New Jersey tour, so I can't say that I'm really interested in seeing them this time around. That said, I've always been very impressed at just how relevant Bon Jovi have been able to stay for the past 30 years.

Bands like Motley & Def Leppard still draw big crowds, but the fanbase is largely an older one. Bon Jovi, for whatever reason, still makes music that young rock fans love. My wife saw them a few years ago in Toronto and was amazed at how young the crowd was (loads of screaming teenage girls.) They managed to set an attendance record for the venue as well, which is very impressive considering that it had been around for 10 years before they played and hosted some of the biggest bands in the world.

My favorite Bon Jovi video is "Something for the pain". Have you seen it? They totally make fun of Pearl jam, Stone Temple Pilots and rap artists. Great stuff!!

Always loved Bon Jovi. They're just great. I don't believe that it's a good idea NOT to go to their concert just because you don't like their recent material. Especially when knowing the fact that their classic tunes take about 80% of their setlist. Yes, they do play some of their new stuff on the concerts, but they sure know how to make best of it while playing live!

I know because I saw them live by myself in 2008. I live in a place where NOTHING happens, so I had to travel 600km for the concert, spend all my savings of the time and it was totally worth it. It is still one of the two best concerts I've ever been to. And if I had I chance to repeat it all, I'd be all my 100% into it. It's a mind-blowing experience, no one can't prove me other way. As well as no one could deny that they're one of the bests aroud these days. A fact.

And I can't wait for the new album :)

You are welcome to stay with us if you choose the DC show. Or if you want to make it truly special, they are opening the new Meadowlands in NEW JERSEY, and I can find us all a place to stay up there with family.

Great video list. What about the In And Out Of Love video? I had a UHF channel 68 on Long Island that showed videos, and you probably have no idea what I am talking about. :)

i agree with Bryon in some ways, Bon Jovi's fanbase is surprisingly young, i'm 16 and I know about 50 people who'll want to travel up to London with me to see the show. I don't care who's coming with me though, i'm going on my own if i have to, regardless of cost and distance.

we'll be at the new Meadowlands Stadium first night! As usual, the tickets were too expensive for only average seats ($150). Also, it's a great show if you've never seen them live, but otherwise I've seen them like 15 times and it's basically the same show every time except for a few song substitutions. They can learn a few things from Bruce & The E-Street Band...CHARGE LESS FOR TICKETS AND PUT ON AN AMAZING, AWE INSPIRING SHOW.

Nice list.

But what about "You Give Love A Bad Name"?

That should be right under "Livin' On A Prayer", if you don't mind me sayin'. And it's their second best song, too, right, everybody? I know, I know, to each his/her own. But c'mon, "You Give Love A Bad Name" is a helluva lot more glam than everything else besides "Livin'". And a lot more rockin', too!
