Happy Halloween! Elvira is Calling
Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 12:01AM
Remember Elvira? You know, the Mistress of the Dark? Played by Cassandra Peterson, I also sort of associated the Elvira character as being pretty Metal. I have no idea if this is a fair assessment or not, but she sure is a good topic for this Halloween Saturday. The following are some pretty cool Elvira clips. Have a great Halloween!

I remember every Halloween for quite a few years during the 80's, she VJ'd a show on MTV and I even think she hosted a Headbanger's Ball or two back in the late 80's and/or early 90's if Halloween fell on a Saturday (when Headbanger's Ball was on).
I remember her shows were the best because she had a fantastic mix of Metal, Goth, Punk and New Wave. Stuff like Twisted Sister, Kiss, Priest, Dokken, Trouble, Slayer, Helloween, Savatage, White Zombie, King Diamond, Type-O-Negative and Danzig, etc., mixed with punk and new wave stuff like The Dead Boys, The Damned, The Stranglers, 999, Pil, etc, especially if a video had some kind of Horror motif like how the bands dress ($immons and Mick Marrs barfing blood, etc., zombies, cemetaries, etc. or if the songs were from horror flick soundtracks (i.e. Fastway, "Trick or Treat" or Dokken, "Dream Warriors" from that Freddie flick, etc.).
It was really quite hilarious to watch this eclectic mix back to back like that.
Whoever helped her with the programming really knew their stuff. I think I've got some of her shows on video in storage along with about 100 Headbanger's Balls from back in the day. Really wish I had the earliest shows though, too, like the one's that were hosted by Dee Snyder and the like.
Good call, Al! Elvira, an icon forever linked to the stuff we call Metal! Happy Halloween to all!
