Rock on the Range Lineup?

Rock on the Range is an annual, two-day rock festival held each May in Columbus, Ohio. This May (16th - 17th) will mark the third consecutive event. Previous festivals were wildly successful sell-outs.

As you well know, February is festival announcement season and people are ready to learn who will play Rock on the Range 2009.

Rumors and festivals go hand in hand - so here are the rumored bands for Rock on the Range:

Saliva
Slipknot (headliner)
Alice in Chains
Shinedown
Motley Crue (headliner)
Static-x
Atreyu
Down
The Used
Trapt
All That Remains
Blue October
Hoobastank
Crooked X
Sick Puppies
Charm City Devils
State of Shock
Framing Hanley

I highly doubt the list is 100% accurate, but some rumors do match fact and here is what I know:

Saliva, Charm City Devils and Crooked X are confirmed.

More bands are needed to flesh out two stages on two days, so add Pop Evil and Godsmack. I also know the lineup announcement was slated for January 27 but that fell through...and now I think I know why. Consider this: Nikki Sixx said earlier this week that a Crue Fest II announcement is coming soon. Motley never let anyone announce their shows before they do - so ROTR has to wait for the Crue Fest PR machine to roll. This means - in effect - Rock on the Range has all (or most of) the Crue Fest II bands. The natural question - which ones? If I had to put a Crue Fest together from the list above I'd pick Motley, Charm City Devils, Crooked X and Shinedown. Again, add Godsmack to that list.

Oh yeah. There's also the logistical consideration: Motley very pointedly is avoiding Ohio on the winter leg of their tour. Makes sense to skip a city you're likely hiting in just a few months.

So, what do you think? Again, (most) of this is pure speculation. Some is based on real knowledge. I guess we'll see.

The Crue is the only band on that list (that I have heard of) that I would pay to see. I've seen Saliva, and they are terrible in concert.

I agree with crue dude, saliva is so shitty live. The rythem guitarists doesnt even fucking play, its like he just dances around and tries to look freaky cause he has some eyeliner on, HA!! Lame ass band, cant figuire out why anyone over 15 would give a shit about them.

I am guessing that most classic hard rock and hair metal fans won't care much about Slipknot. I saw them live on the Mayhem festival last year, and they surprised me. They were pretty good live.

That lineup is a pretty hard sell, especially with Cruefest 2009 going to happen later this year.

I want to see Shinedown, but I will catch them on their club tour in March.
Shinedown, AIC and DOWN! Bubba, that could be big!

I'm pretty excited for RotR, but I'm hoping some bigger bands are gonna be there. From what I've heard so far, RotR's myspace has recently updated these bands into their friends:

Motley Crue-Alice in Chains-Atreyu-Shinedown-the Used-Static x-Blue October-Saliva-Hoobastank-Trapt-Sick Puppies-Crooked X-All That Remains-Framing Hanley-State of Shock-Joan Red-Nonpoint-Bangkok 5-PopEvil-Halestorm-Charm City Devils-Avenged Sevenfold- and Age of Daze.

However, I was also told that they did this last year, and hardly any of those bands were even at the festival last year. But, the announcement is coming soon, according to a myspace blog.

I like most of the bands on the list.
As for who Motley would tour with...
I can see Shinedown, and Atreyu as possibilities.
I like the Used, that'd be cool. I could also see Framing Hanley touring with Motley.
I wouldn't be surprised if Drowning Pool did Cruefest 2, since they were speculated to be on it last year.
I'm sure they'll be added to RotR...? Seems practical.
I don't really see Godsmack with Motley...but hey? You never know?
If A7X was at RotR/Cruefest...that'd be awesome. LOVE A7X, but I don't think they'd tour with the Crue.
On Atreyu's myspace it does say: "One thing that’s always felt good to Atreyu is ‘80s metal, and on Lead Sails Paper Anchor they indulge themselves like never before – especially on “Blow,” in which the band pays homage to the excesses of ‘80s metal and bands like Motley Crue (Buckcherry's Josh Todd provides guest vocals on the track."
So considering Motley's even mentioned, I'm sure Atreyu would like to tour with them? Possibility, I think.

Rock on the Range needs Godsmack to headline and bring the revolving stages so they and slipknot can use them in there shows!! For ne one that hasnt seen Godsmack they are a true spectical to see and are still the best show I have seen!! They also need to bring ACDC as a headliner because they are touring right now and they are amazing live!

papa roach confirmed last year at rock on the range that they would be back for a 3rd time..the only band there every year.

i believe the theory that this announcement is tied up to Crue Fest II can be thrown out since Motley Crue is doing European festivals in June. That means that unless Crue Fest II is from April-Jume (which is very unlikely) that its not going to happen till July-August. And Papa Roach did not confirm at last year's fest that they would be back for 3rd time. he simply said that papa roach would like to come back to headline one year, and it won't be this year because they will be in Europe. And they will never headline because they are Papa Roach.

Slipknot confirmed they will headline day two. Whether they are the pre headliner or the the main show I do not know yet!!

I am wanting to buy tickets right now. My boyfriend has never been to ROTR but says that we should wait until at least a month before to get tickets. Will ROTR sell out? Do u think the tickets will be more expensive the longer u wait to get them?
