Get Familiar With...Pop Evil

The guys in Pop Evil are good, old fashioned Midwesterners who are happy to rock out heavy...or unplug and go acoustic. Perhaps most exciting is that the band is currently touring with Buckcherry and will hit the road soon with Judas Priest and Whitesnake. If that's not enough, iTunes editors selected Pop Evil as one of the top new rock acts for 2008.

"It's been crazy," admits Pop Evil lead singer Leigh Kakaty. "It's been the craziest two weeks of our lives. We just finished our music video for "100 in a 55" and we got back and got to meet everyone at Universal Records and our publishing company. From there it is was immediately to the Buckcherry tour and then the Judas Priest stuff. Now...it's our highlight of the summer. The Priest and Whitesnake tour is going to be insane and we are looking forward to all those shows down the road."

Since Pop Evil just signed with Universal a couple months back, the band will rerelease their debut album Lipstick on the Mirror. The album features "Rolling Stone," a new track not on the original pressing, plus two acoustic tunes.

Saw them last October in Baltimore with Tesla. When I first saw them I was like WTF ??? BUt then a few minutes into the show they really started getting into it and proved to be a great band. I have been a fan ever since ! Great live show !

I saw these guys open for Theory of a Deadman in March at a club show. I immediately bought their CD after they finished their set and I was glad I did. This is one of the best new bands to come around in a while and "Lipstick On The Mirror" is an intense CD.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see or hear anything special about them at all.

The first words that came to mind when I heard "100 in a 55" was ..... 3 Doors Down clones. And I am by no means a 3 Doors Down fan, haha.

Yeah, they're a bit generic sounding, but 100 in a 55 is a damn fine song, with a chorus custom built for howling along with while in your car.

I'm with recordjnky - this is yet ANOTHER band that sounds no different than a million other bands.

Where was the good guitar solo?? There wasn't one.

Another Kermit the Frog singer and overly-tattooed entity - I freakin hope Adam Lambert changes this shitty-ass kermit singing we've had in the mainstream for the past 15 years.

And uhh....where's the big hooks? Once again - there weren't any.

And that 100 in a 55 song - Jesus , if I hear that same old chord change in another song I'm gonna hurl.

Allyson , I know you love all this new alternative rock stuff , but do yourself a favor and do articles about European bands. They seem to be the only ones with any talent nowadays.

Have you heard the new Bai Bang? Primal Fear? Wildstreet? From the Inside??

If not , please do. You'll be pleasantly surprised and can leave the major label mediocrity to shoe-gazing fests.

it dosent have the glam or hard rock edge that i love, but i still dig them
