'Ace of Spades'...at Half Speed?
Monday, November 29, 2010 at 12:01AM
The guys in Motorhead recently made a commercial for some beer called Kronenbourg. I must admit, hearing "Ace of Spades" at half speed is a weird experience, but it works for the commercial concept. It seems that more and more metal bands are being tapped these days for marketing purposes. Maybe that's the way we can keep the music alive? If the art of the music video is dead and no one wants to pay for albums anymore and concert tickets are too high, then maybe commercials are the way to go. Watch:

Metal bands in adverts doesnt happen much over here.
IMO, the worst example of a band re-working their own stuff is Bon Jovi's This Left Feels Right. That is right up there with the worst crap I've ever heard from anyone.
It's all about the IDEA of the commercial...
The CONCEPT!
Can't you people read?
At the end of the spot, a super comes up with 3 words...
"Slow The Pace"
So the idea is take one of the first known Speed Metal songs, "The Ace Of Spades", which is normally delivered at break neck speed as the original sounds and slow it down.
It's slowed down to emphasize the notion of this beer being so great, you want to drink it slow in order to savor every sip.
So Lemmy's just taking it easy and havin' a beer down at the old pub, relishing each gulp.
Of course, it's really a great spot made even better, as Lemmy works perfectly performing in the pub like he's just some regular local musician doing his regular gig.
Subtle and Classy... Real and Authentic feeling...
Brilliant!
(Because it's conceptual!)
