Guns n' Roses, Heart Nominated for Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame
I know, I know - you don't care about the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. But here we are: Guns n' Roses was just nominated. And, when it comes time to count the ballots, I think they will get in and easily so. Here's the entire list of Rock Hall candidates for this new class:
Beastie Boys
The Cure
Donovan
Eric B. & Rakim
Guns 'N Roses
Heart
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
Freddie King
Laura Nyro
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rufus with Chaka Khan
The Small Faces/The Faces
The Spinners
Donna Summer
War
Of course, GNR won't be the only band that gets in when the ceremony happens on April 14, 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio. I predict the Beastie Boys, Heart and the Spinners will get in too.
Let's think of the induction ceremony for a moment. If GNR gets in (and they will), it may well be a hot debacle. Remember when Van Halen was inducted? The Van Halen brothers didn't even show up and neither did David Lee Roth. Well, I predict WAY more bedlam amongst the GNR crowd... unless we're all stunned and the much-awaited reunion of original members happens right during the induction ceremony. GNR has had so many replacement members, it will be hard to argue who gets in and who doesn't. Obviously the original members and maybe Matt Sorum. Beyond Sorum, maybe Dizzy Reed. I don't think anyone else qualifies. Do you?

The RnRHF is a complete joke. Any Hall that has Lou Reed in twice is moronic.
It is difficult to take this organization seriously, when (off the top of my head) Rush, Deep Purple, Moody Blues, Bad Company, Journey, Foreigner, Chicago, and many, many more have never gotten in,or even nominated for the most part. Never mind the fact that most of our hard rock/metal/glam favorites will NEVER get in... Where's Judas Priest and the Scorpions for that matter? Blondie is in, but not Heart? Or even Pat Benatar? Unbelievable. I could go on.
As for this year's nominees (thanks for the heads up Allyson), I do see G'n'R getting in immediately, and it's their time. Really changed the landscape in the late 80's for hard rock and heavy music. Hell, even most critics liked 'em, and that, sadly, is the surest way to garner induction these days. As for who turns up, Slash better be there. No Slash, no signature G'n'R sound. Sorry Axl, it's that simple. Sure that Steven Adler will be there too. As Slash said on 'That Metal Show' last year, "Steven's there NOW...!"
Would also like to see Heart get in, they have been overlooked for years. Ann & Nancy can still deliver the goods today. Also think that Joan Jett should get in; she has proven longevity, plus she was pivotal for women in hard rock early in her career with the Runaways.
The Beasties have been nominated for years, and I am surprised that they are not a "shoe-in". Liked by critics and their rabid fans, and you can't discount the work done on behalf of Tibet. But I'm not exactly a fan, so it wouldn't bother me as much as say... KISS being continually ignored! I could see the Cure and Freddie King getting in as well, if not this year, then eventually. The Chili Peppers are still putting out decent music and touring today, and they will have to get in sometime.
Lastly, there's always a WTF? induction, so look for Donna Summer (been nominated for years), the Spinners, or even Rufus to get in. We shall see.
Slash
Izzy Stradlin
Duff McKagan
Steven Adler
... that is Guns N Roses. Nobody else played on Appetite for Destruction, nobody else should be acknowledged.
A #1 song on Billboard for 7 straight weeks.
Three albums reaching the top 20 on the Billboard charts. ("I Love Rock 'N Roll", "Album", and "Up Your Alley").
In Billboard alone: 3 top ten records, and 7 other Billboard top 100 entries is absolutlely staggering.
Her influence on a ton of past and current rock bands.
Founder of one of, if not the first all girl rock band on a major label.
35 years in the industry and still going strong.
No other woman in rock OWNS her masters and has controlled her own fate for so many years, after being rejected by the male controlled record industry.
Has written songs with other artists that have also entered the Billboard top 20 charts.
*** Not sure how many of the others on the list can top those facts.
I am of the thinking that a Hall of Fame should be more like the MLB than the NFL.
Boy, if the original line-up took the stage at the induction ceremony, that would be one of THE Biggest Redemption Stories of the Year.
Probably duzn't mean much to people anymore, especially in this current over-jaded angry America, but what a feeling of healing would come over the whole scene, especially for Adler, who is probably carrying the most pain of all of them.
And to see Axl and Slash on stage again, along with Izzy, would be the biggest thing to hit in decades! They're in because the R'n'R Hall of Fame needs somethin' big like that to happen.
JOan Jett - really? what the heck? she had a few hit singles and waved the flag for female rockers back in the day, blah blah....does she deserve to be nominated for the hall of SHAME, NAH! I hardly think so.
GNR - we all knew as soon as they became eligible they would make the ballot. we all know at this point if the RRHOF can make the ceremony into HIT TV RATINGS than they will gun for it (no pun intented). If guns get the nom, i hope they completely pull a Sabbath and say F U! IF and that is a really STRONG STRONG IF....Guns decide to reunite to accept the award, I really hope it doesn't happen. the RRHOF doesn't deserve to be the event that makes these guys come together.
Again, passing on RUSH & KISS is just plain WRONG!
on the flip side, i do enjoy watching the ceremony (for the most part) each year. i like hearing the speeches and seeing other artists appreciate their heroes and celebrating the artists body of work.
we all feel the same way about what a joke the institution is.
You are better than that. Show us some of that old spunk, receptionists be damned!
