Aerosmith, 'What Could Have Been Love' -- New Video

Aerosmith just released the video for "What Could Have Been Love" a single from their upcoming album Music From Another Dimension. I like the video a lot... but what is it with Aerosmith and the slow songs? I mean, really. Aerosmith is a gritty rock band. I need fast songs, darn it. Fast songs! I'm not a soccer mom. When I go to concerts, I want to move around - and I want to see the band jump around, too. I guess a slower song guarantees the band a hit, right?

Get the new Aerosmith album November 6.

Cute enough completely bland pop ballad. What was the point of getting a rock producer like Jack Douglas if you're going to put out sound paste like this? Where's the, (and I quote) "return to the total rock stuff like 'Rocks' & 'Draw The Line' "? Because this sure isn't it.

Some pop cutout Barbie doll on American Idol is who this faceless dreck is designed for. NOT Aerosmith. I expect better.

I like the song. I like all era's of the band. How often does a band that say they have new music that sounds like when they were young actually sound that way. If we're lucky just a song or two.

Give me a cd with remnants of Uncle Salty, Last Child, Eat The Rich, The Other Side, Rag Doll & Amazing all on one new cd and I'd be Amazed!

Same old crap of the past 15yrs or so. They are a pop band now. I won't be buying the cd. They have become irrelevant.

They should change the title of this to: "COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD".
Unfortunately, it isn't.

This album really is shaping up to be a bit of a hodgepodge, based on the singles Allyson has posted here with every release.

"Revolutionary Child" is a hot mess with too much dissonant guitar pyrotechnics unlike the "just right" Brad Whitford dittie he brought Tyler for some words, "Street Jesus", a spot on "ROCKS" style romp with the baseline nicked from the title track from "Toys In The Attic".

Okay, so the ballad is pretty generic. My theory is Kolodner realized, whether on his own, or with the aid of a phonecall from the brass over at what's left of Columbia Records, that "We need a Hit! Hit! Hit!, Steven!!!

Tyler quickly channeled his "Amazing" talents to whip up this "just okay" Powerballad. Hey, ya gotta have a little Receptionist Rock thrown in as a little insurance policy to guarantee a Top 10 Hit from the Receptionists turned Soccer Moms.

I just wish this song had been a little more on the "Home Tonight" side, rather than the paint-by-numbers Dianne Warren/Desmond Child-style pablum of "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing", which is where "Could Have Been Love" is leaning. It's even more unfortunate that it's not as good, though I've still heard worse from Aerosmith, so I will still get this album, praying there are some more "ROCKS" on it somewhere!

If Van Halen and KISS can deliver the goods with new albums that actually rock, why can't Aerosmith? to me the answer is simple. With tons of due respect to our esteemed glam Mistress, Aerosmith is no longer, nor have they been for 25 years, a gritty rock band. Done With Mirrors was the last Aerosmith album that was full of swagger from start to finish. If the new record has enough tunes I like, I'll buy it and just skip the obvious attempts to keep the soccer moms happy.

Haha, Bob! You are so right about "Done With Mirrors" and their catering toward soccer moms with this song. However, it was out of necessity, I have a feeling, that the album was delayed when the call came in either from Kolodner and/or the record company (though Ace is probably gonna tell me Kolodner -- read "Clod-ner" -- is no longer their 6th pair of ears), who merrily led Aerosmith down the path to Hackville since they took a "Permanent Vacation" until now.

The moment of truth will come when we listen to "Music From Another Dimension" for the first time. I'm gonna bet it's got a little something for everyone. And I'm thinkin', overall, it's gonna be their best album since "Mirrors" just for havin' "Street Jesus" on it. Let's hope there's more stuff like that on it and less like "What Could Have Been Love".

p.s. Ace -- "Could Have Been Good"... Hahaha!!!

Hmmm. I commented on this again 2days ago & it's missing. Go Figure.
I'll sum up: I picked up the CD as it was on sale @ Best Buy for $9.99 . How do I put this? I feel ripped off. This SUCKS!

It's pretty pathetic when the bland ballad I slammed ends up being the best song on the record.

But I'm sure 108% of completely clueless soccer moms will eat it up. I'll stick with the old stuff from when Aerosmith was a real rock band.
