INXS Calls It Quits

INXS will tour no more, but the band has left things vauge when it comes to new music

The Australians made the retirement announcement Monday. The band was together 35 years and released 11 studio albums.

"We understand that this must come as a blow to everybody, but all things must eventually come to an end," the band members said in a statement.

Original INXS frontman Michael Hutchence died in 1997 and the band continued on after his death with a variety of different singers.

One of my favorite albums of all time is Kick, which INXS released in 1987.

I have to agree with you Allyson; "Kick" is a fantastic album. I saw the band on that tour (at a very small university gym in Virginia) just before the album exploded. Michael was mesmerizing, one hell of a frontman. I also caught them in Columbus several years ago with J.D. Fortune on vocals. I know that he was chosen on that cheesey "Rockstar: INXS" television competition, but he was a perfect fit for the band and the album he recorded with them is quite respectable. Maybe they will work with him again at some point.

I always thought Hutchence was better than that band. Frankly, I found their stuff quite annoying. He would have faired even better with an even harder rocking band.

Yeah, it would have been riskier but I think it would have paid off in spades had he wound up in an outfit that was less pop and more ROCK.

God Bless his Rock and Roll Soul.

Lets be honest, that band died along with Hutchence in 1997.

Excellent comments everyone. For my money, though, Listen Like Thieves, the song and the album, were their high point. Just the right mix of accessibility and snap.

While I will respect your right to enjoy _My Morning Jacket_, Metalboy!, I do have to ask: do you own a can of forced air? It would help unstick your keyboard.

Never a big fan. Although I do think that "Don't Change" is one helluva good song!

Wha?, HIM?

I'll throw ya "Don't Change", Gary. Why didn't one of our boys cover that to give it the kind of Metal correction it needs?

My apologies Metalboy! Sometimes I dig deep and strike out. I didn't really think the reference would work in this venue. And that is a good thing.

And, HIM! Just to be clear, the only Morning Jacket I choose to be familiar with is the one I absent mindedly hand to the one of many countless fair maidens in my employ after a hearty sunrise surveyance of the castle grounds. And with Jon Lord and sometimes, John Paul Jones being the rare exception, I really could do without the keyboards unless it's a cobwebbed Steinway as the sole piece of furniture in the Grand Ballroom of one of my Newport "cottages". Wasn't it $immons who once told Giuffria, "Keyboards aren't very Rock and Roll are they?" Watch what you say, Pal.
