Meet Black Oxygen

As a band, Black Oxygen has potential. Yes they are slick, but they don’t necessarily sound like every other radio band on the block. There’s some grit here.

I stumbled across Black Oxygen whilst trolling YouTube. I liked their name so I gave them a click. The lead singer’s look struck me as Glam – he does look like he’s straight out of 1989, so they’ve earned a spot on this site, at least for today.

The band is from Kansas City. Very All-American, yes? The debut album is called The American Dream. They self-released the title, so good for them.

Check it out:

Wannabe Clubber Rock.

This video looks like a "Modern Rock" band interloping onto the set of a Ciroc commercial but Diddy split the scene already cuz he couldn't stand the music, which would be the only thing he would have gotten right regarding music besides sampling "Kashmir".

I like the music. I like the melody. I like the overall vibe of the song. I don't, however, like the singer. He twists up his mouth when he sings in that really annoying way that Scott Stapp from Creed used to do. If they either get a new singer, or the singer they have comes to his senses and stops pronouncing his words like a jackass, they'd be half decent.

The girl is OK. That's about all. Kinda lame. The frontman is from the past.

Thanks Bob. I thought I was the only one who felt like punching Scott Stapp in the face everytime he ruined a song with the uber annoying way he enunciates words. I agree about the song also. Got a pretty banging riff happening, but ala Creed, he ruins it with the mush mouth....

Nothing special, music was not horrible, but not very inspired either. The singer (and his lyrics) is definitely the weakest thing though (do we really need another song that rhymes "fire" and "desire"?). Might be okay on a Saturday at the bar, but pretty generic overall.

Yeah, ran across these guys as part of the local radio station (WGRD Grand Rapids, MI) nightly competition of bands. They played the tune "The American Dream" which I liked a bit more than this tune, check it out.

In the end did pick the other band Deadwood Stone, which I caught opening for Slash here in Detroit. Also a good sound, check em out. I like their tune Roll On. Pretty good live.

Honestly, the kid duzn't bother me half as much as Scott Sapp, one of the crappiest and most annoying frontmen in Rock History (along with Eddie Vedder, hahaha!!!).

It's EVERYTHING about the song and the video that's misguided. The whole wannabe Nightclubber "vibe" is ridiculous. Having been a virtual urchin of these kinds of joints both in New York City and South Beach throughout the last decades, personally wasting thousands of dollars on table service and all of the other trappings that go along with the experience, I can assure you, it is the most plastic, vacuous "disco" scene completely incongruous to anything even vaguely resembling Rock & Roll.

It is utterly ridiculous to find these clowns celebrating such an empty existence. Oh, and let's face it, the song completely sucks, to boot. Just sayin'.
