The Cult, 'For the Animals'

Have you heard the new Cult song, "For the Animals?" The song is dark and mysterious - seemingly a theme from the upcoming record Choice of Weapon. The new record will hit stores May 22. In interview after interview, guitarist Billy Duffy continues to reiterate that the band is "growing." Usually this is nothing more than PR-speak but this time... I honestly think it is true. Check out the sample of "For the Animals" below... and you can stream the whole tune on Rolling Stone.

You can also download the song "Lucifer" as well.

An under-appreciated band with a diverse (and at times, embarrassing) back catalog. If substance problems hadn't derailed them in the late 90s and early 00s (the Sorum era sounds cobbled together and lethargic), they had a chance to be a lot farther along now.

When Astbury is on--all Morrison redux and such--they are incredible live and solid on their releases. Duffy is simply a spotlight stealing guitarist (in a good way) in stadiums of yore and in clubs these days. And the addition of Tempesta in 06 certainly added to their live shows ("Electric Ocean" sounds amazing).

This song took me a few listens. But I think that had more to do with the compressed sound on RS than anything else. I am looking forward to this release.

Check out the official video. http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2012/04/26/the-cult-for-the-animals-video/
It's a great song and outstanding video. The actress perfectly embodies the message in a performance as powerful as the song itself. If this doesn’t hit the charts and win awards, something’s really wrong.
