Glam Enough For Ya?

The daily comments by regular reader GNR got me to thinking: maybe I should do a real post where we all say the song we listened to on our way to work today. Since I write these posts hours early so readers can check out the site first thing in the morning, I'll use my song from yesterday.

Yesterday, on my short commute to work, I listened to two things, courtesy of Sirius XM: news (Morning Joe) and Hair Nation. I'm pretty sure I came in on the end of Dokken, "Breaking the Chains" but I didn't hover on the music station for long. I try to always listen to news in the morning. Now that I think about it, it was hours before I actually turned on any music while I was working. I'm mired deep in a couple of big projects, so I guess I just sat down and started working. When I did turn on music, I went to YouTube so I could listen to the new Aerosmith song again.

What did you listen to on your commute this morning?

Reader Comments (37)

on my way to work: Michael Monroe's "While you were looking at me", "Not fakin' it" and Joan Jett's "Star, Star".

At work: Howard Stern. But, not his current crap...his original crap.

I believe it was 'Last Kiss' by Bang Tango. Then I listened to my Jango station all day at work http://www.jango.com/stations/267883776/tunein

Hey Metalboy, you're not thinking of the remake for Riders on the Storm that is sung by Scott Stapp are you? That version got quite a bit of airplay and wasn't a bad version. I'd be interested if you find out the one you were referencing. I am a pretty big Doors fan.

Thanks

Gary! Megadeth?! Is THAT Glam enuff for ya? Seriously, you guys never quit, do ya?!

I will say, and I'm sure this will p*ss off a lot of the greasers who really don't have any business being on here (and I hope it does!) but I DO think "Peace Sells But Who's Buying?" is a HAIR METAL masterpiece, better than anything Metallica or Iron Maiden has ever done! (Alright, Metallica's cover of "Stone Cold Crazy" is awesome but it duzn't take much to figure out why that is!).

Kari -- You go girl! (I know. Treat sounds a little "Beach Blanket Bingo", but, hey, it's Summer!) Stoked to hear it! Got a biggie coming' yer way, too! (Playlist, that is, hahaha!!!)

Ace! With ya on that! I've always thought that, too! They are SO Glam in my book! Want the ultimate proof? Check out one of their promo vids from 1968 (too lazy to go scope out which one right now but will check it out for ya later if ya don't hit us back with it first). They are wearing TONs of make-up in it and look frickin' killer! I do LOVE all their stuff but particularly, anything from 1969 to 1976, tho I also think "Some Girls" is a total masterpiece but put it in a different time zone, if you will. "Midnight Rambler (live from "Hot Rocks"), "Monkey Man", "It's Only Rock And Roll" ( ever heard Shy's version of that? Glamtastic!), "Bitch", "Happy"... Aw, I could just go on and on!

Jack! With ya on the new L.A. Guns! Cinderella, where are you?! Why don't you work with Johns, too? He produced "Night Songs", after all.

Tony? What th...?! Take that Taking Dawn crap back to Noisecreep and never come back! But before you do, read the title of this post! Huh-uh-lo-oh! If ya wonder why, try Asking Alexandria. UNROCK Alert!

Yes, GEO2! You passed the audition with flying colors! Love that stuff! Totally into MSG with McCauley, as well,

Glamfly! Been meaning to check out Champagne Suicide. Thanks for the reminder! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout, people!"

Rock-It! Oh! "Next Position Please"! What a sleeper that is! Too bad Rundgren f*cked up the production on that but he did give them "Heaven's Falling" -- one of my fave Cheap Trick songs! Unfrickinreal!

Some good stuff here that I'll have to give a spin. Sometimes its just nice to know the best song you heard that day. Love hearing some golden oldies and new stuff and stuff from the older bands that maybe I didn't hear right back in my Camaro days, but now its really good.

And to Metalboy! ~ I will start commenting more and no worries on giving shit, I'm Mr. Sarcasm Extraordinaire.

MB,

LOL!!! Yeah,Mr Mustaine isn't really glam, but that riff from Symphony blaring at 2:15am definitely blew the cobwebs outta my head better than any energy drink or cup-o-joe could!! Oh yeah, today's wake up call was S.A.T.O. from his Ozzness.....8-)

Haha!!, Gary! That's another one -- "What song woke you up today?"

And Haha!! to GNR, too! Love the title "Mr. Sarcasm Extraordinaire"! Sounds like a great title for an album and a title track!

Jeff! Hahaha!!! F*ck that arrogant self righteous prick, Scott Sapp. That guy might be the most annoying jerk in Rock and Roll History next to Neil Sedaka! Seriously, though, I can't figure out what band it is that did that great "Riders" cover. It's from either the late 80's or early 90's. Maybe you and anyone else would like to take a shot at finding it. It was on YouTube and might still be on there. I will keep hunting on there, too, but it might just be something someone else keys in that will bring it up!

What you just sayin' son? I am not tryin' to say anything, Bro, accept that I agree with ya.

MB: my post above wasn't (isn't) a slight to you...at all, so don't take it as such. Perhaps, you should buy me a beer @ M3 next year, because in those Badlands, I have a startling story about "The Boss" that I'm sure you would find quite eye-opening, at the least, and very entertaining, at the most.

The naysayers are an underground band that often exposes (at least tries to) the underbelly of the rock-n-roll world. The band draws upon (in a simple nutshell) the punk-rock attitude of the Ramones, the nitty-gritty rock-n-roll personality of barrier-breaking rocker Joan Jett, the politically-incorrect (and quite witty) charisma of The Offspring, and accencuated with the true talent of glam band, Cinderella, who continually (try to) bring it back.

The naysayers often get overlooked- unless, of course, they piss off a "popular" group and then get booted off tours. Then, all hell breaks loose. Sure, their music has taken them south on an occasion or two, but they have still been able to pull themselves up by the proverbial bra-staps. Some call them goth, others call them geeks. Some call them fags, others call them bullies. Some call them clueless and stupid, while still others cannot get onto their radar. But, true friends and fans call their style of music...comforting...and funny as hell. (I prefer the latter).

It is rumored (not really) that a person who is now huge in the music world, but was once a peripheral member of this band, re-connected with them after years of not talking to each other and at the end of the night, the person gave the lead singer a huge compliment by saying, "It's good to see some things never change."

MB: hit me up prior to M3 next year. I have a few more stories for you- not misguided stories...more like Cheap Trick meets the statues of great entities.
