Steven Tyler Quits 'American Idol'

American Idol fans saw this coming: Steven Tyler has quit the judges panel. Tyler issued a statement yesterday:

"After some long ... hard ... thoughts ... I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit... I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover."

Jennifer Lopez is wishy-washy over her return to American Idol as well. The singer was on the Today show recently and said this about her possible return to the Idol stage:

“But I am thinking that maybe it’s time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do. Like films, and right now I’m on tour and performing -- all the things that I do.”

Hopefully Tyler's departure from the show really does mean more Aerosmith, especially more tour dates. Time will tell I guess.

Ok, so J. Lo officially quit American Idol today as well. That just leaves Randy Jackson on the judge's panel and rumors are swirling that he will be canned.

Not to rain on everybody's parade, but at this point, I'm cautiously optimistic. Tyler is very very good at shooting his mouth off. now it's time for him to put up or shut up. Let's hope he does what he says he's going to do. if he does, we'll all be better off for it.

I actually enjoy American Idol. It is a nice bonding time with my daughter. plus, I took her to the concert last yr. It was very cool having Tyler on that show to give our kind of music a lot of legs and publicity. He was very good for that show and now my kids really really love Aerosmith.

Long time Aerosmith fan. First saw them in a bar, (The Brewery MSU West, Lansing MI) right after the "Dream On" album was released for a $2.50 cover.
Agree with Brian. Saw a whole different side to Steven and gained a new respect. He has a quick wit and great sense of humor. The move to leave was well timed. Rock on Aerosmith!
