Motley Crue To Offer Free Download July 16

For 24 hours on Monday, July 16th, Motley Crue will offer their new single "Sex" for free. To get the free single, all you need to do is visit www.motley.com.

Motley is releasing the song in advance of their co-headline tour with KISS. That tour starts July 20. Motley bassist Nikki Sixx says the band plans to perform "Sex" each night of the tour. We'll see I guess. I'm seeing the tour at the very end of August, so it will be interesting to see how long the new song makes it... if you know what I mean.

Here's the teaser of "Sex." What do you think so far?

Sounds pretty good, honestly! Anything would be better than that shitty 'SOLA' record, though.

It sounds rote . . . and tinny.

I know, I know. I am listening to it on my computer. But I played it next to what I consider their last really good song, "Primal Scream," and it still didn't compare (actually, their last really good song with Neil as Corabi is another story). Perhaps the tinny thing is just a compression issue. I dunno. But it feels tired to me, even more tired than the title track off of SOLA (no slab of platinum, granted).

Sidebar: I know I already got on your bad side Kenny by leaving Majors out of my review, but this is just my humble opinion. Speaking of which, seems as if Majors and Summers are having 'personal issues' as of late. Gotta love rock n' roll!

I'll pass. It is crüe trying too hard to write an anthem, and it just sounds derivative of a million other songs. I wish this band would simply go away.

Favorite band bringing it to the people. Rock on motley Crüe.

Doesn't sound like Vince AT ALL! And considering his vocals these days I'm not surprised, of course he'll need a lot of help to sound good again... But couldn't they at least TRY to make it sound like his voice? Although, Crüe fan as I am, I'm still excited to hear some new material, especially live! Keeping my fingers crossed that this will be just as good as some of the best songs from SOLA - yes, I like it!

As for Motley (huge fan btw), I can't fully judge a tune on a 20 second middle of the tune sound bite. But if someone is going to make a tune just called SEX, I guess Motley could fit the bill.

I'll cross my fingers that they give me a couple of good tunes to say yep they still got the ability to make good tunes.

Did it get to the hook yet? Because I sure didn't hear one.

sounds pretty good so far lookin forward to the rest and i also thought SOLA was a pretty good cd
July 14, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterglamrockerarchie
That's what I thought, Ace! I'm hoping there is a hook in there somewhere. And I'm with Kim and Arch, at least as far as the title track of "Saints Of Los Angeles" goes. That's a GREAT anthem!

Note to GNR: Hellzyeah!, that's Glam enuff for me! Sleez Beez! Duzn't get any more GLAM METAL than that! And great to see your comments again, my friend! And that's exactly what I assumed, too -- that's just gotta be a soundbite from the middle of the tune cuz there simply ain't a hook, lick or riff to be found in the entire 20 seconds. I sure hope this ain't gonna wind up layin' there like "Legendary Child".

And that's another good point, GNR -- If anyone could live up to the task of putting out a song called "Sex", it would be Sixx and the Boyz. Let's see if they can deliver. This clip duz nothing except make us wonder if they actually will.

by the way here is one of a few clips of bret michaels sayin he wants to do new material with poison since i took a bashin a while back for it and its bothered me since lol so i went and found one of them.Bret Michaels On our last studio album [2007's "Poison'd!"], we had Don Was, one of the greatest producers ever, and I was really upset that we were using him for a covers album. I gave 150 percent, but I was like, "Guys, we fuckin' write music. Isn't that what we got into this for in the first place for?" I would like to do a new album with POISON — but we'd have to do new material. I live to write and produce new stuff. I will never do another cover song with POISON.

Hey, that wasn't me bashin' was it, Arch? I did suspect Michaels of not wanting to do new stuff but I do remember when you flagged it, I'm pretty sure you heard crickets from me.

Also, as I've said before, it is unbelievable that those guys waste over six minutes doing covers live. I guess their just trying to sell more of that cover album.

Geez, it shows how much I'm not paying attention to Poison after the first two albums (sorry!) except as far as going to see them -- I had no idea Don Was produced 'em! Yeah, what a waste.

I remember scratchin' my head when they put out "Poison'd". I remember lookin' at the cover and shakin' my head thinkin' these guys were washed up. If I saw it was a new album of original material, I probably woulda bought it.

Metalboy, as always, you are hitting the point on the head. Good on ya!

As for "Poisoned"... let me slip a little "behind the scenes" business info in. Blame Capitol. Capitol would release an album of Poison doing cover material, because they know the novelty of it will sell a few thousand copies. They'll do the same with a re-packaging of old material, for the same reason.

Somehow they don't feel new material from Poison will sell. (and they may be right... ) If Poison does a CD of new material, don't count on Capitol to release it, look for it to come out on the band's own "Sweet Cyanide Records" label, with independent distribution.

Ace! Thanks for the positive comments. I want you to know I so much appreciate your views and opinions and your allowing us to peak under the tent of The L.A. Glam Metal Scene of which you are a card carrying member.

Capitol passing on a Poison album of new material? I'm sure you are right. It really has stupified me ever since '93 how the idiot college radio kids were allowed to have the run of all the majors' A&R Departments to sell out Rock and Roll wholesale in exchange for the Indy Alt crap they've been foisting on us. It is they who should be blamed for creating the hole for Pop to take over. Weirder still is how their "hipster" teen offspring traipse all over Brooklyn in vintage Stryper and Dokken T -Shirts.

Putting out new material is precisely what Poison should do. Release it on their own label, as you suggest. I'm surprised they have any kind of relationship with Capitol at all beyond whatever they've got as a contract to keep feasting off the spoils of all the classic Capitol recordings. They should follow in the footsteps of RATT with their current masterpiece, "Infestation", just as Cinderella should, as well.
July 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
And follow in the footsteps of Crüe, too, of course -- as long as the shoe fits - meaning what Crüe is about to release is good!

First, to the new Motley song...meh. I loved SOLA, but what I've heard of this clip just doesn't measure up.

Second, to Poison...these guys are one of my favorite bands, but their last couple of albums of new material ("Power to the People" and "Hollyweird") were pretty awful. A couple of great songs on "PTTP" which only had 5 new songs ("The Last Song," "Every Bone"), but "Hollyweird" was just awful. I would love to hear something new from Poison, but it has to be better than that.
July 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJT
OK, I downloaded the whole song... and was right. It HADN'T gotten to the hook yet. It's an OK song. I give it a "B".

At least it does have a hook! Musically? I didn't think it was possible to write a catchy song with basically ONE chord. Nikki's done it! Can't wait to see Vince "sing" every 3rd word of this, next month.

And Metalboy ? Thanx for the kind comments. Ask Allyson for my email.

Rock on...

Ace

i agree last couple studio cds werent very good but i really liked the song rockstar off hollyweird, but who knows what kind of record company pressure they were gettin back then as the industry changed styles and a lot of bands were pressured into changin there styles to shit music, maybe an independent release may be what they need. And i also am tired ofhearing them play so many cover songs live ill go to my local bar to hear cover songs.
