Remember White Wolf?
Fans of Saxon or Leatherwolf might like White Wolf. The obscure Canadian band came out in the early 80s and released a couple of albums. In 2007, the band reunited and released Victim of the Spotlight via Escape music. I'm not sure why White Wolf never really caught on in the U.S. but for whatever reason, they didn't. In fact, I don't think their debut album was even ever released here. Of course, you can buy the band's catalog now if you're willing to pay high import prices. Check them out: you might like it:

Whenever I see this video it reminds me of the KROKUS - "Screaming In The Night" video. I wonder if they were done by the same guy..?
I also want to transfer all of these tapes over to DVD, but, alas, due to our wonderful economy, I have to put that off, as the stuff is in storage about 2,000 miles away along with about 6,000 CDs.
Here's another killer -- my friend is an editor in New York who has been doing a lot of stuff for MTV Networks since the beginning (yes, believe it or not, the empire still farms out a lot of stuff). One of his most recent editing jobs for them was the black and white spot for VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show".
Anyway, he told me awhile back and reconfirmed recently, they have every video they've ever aired since day one including everything they ever aired on "Headbanger's Ball" such as White Wolf, for instance. That's why, once in a blue moon, we get to watch a rare video clip from the 80's air on "Metalmania" you've either saw once or twice 25 years ago or never seen, for that matter, of a great band slightly off the radar like Angel or Wildside, for example.
What a crime there isn't somebody, obviously other than who they have over at VH1 now, who would mix up the set list a little more on "Metalmania". I've had more than one Metaloid over the years lament to me that same sentiment. In fact, I'll take it one step further -- Hey, VH1! -- Why not just air entire episodes of "Headbanger's Ball" including all of the host's and guest host's yappin' and interviews?
You could even do it AND still keep "Metalmania", considering the recent resurgence of Old School Hair Metal! After all, I'd hate to lose those killer "Metalmania" animated graphics of the green and orange hot babes gyrating and that skeleton hooded Firebird! Even if they just lost the whole "sleeping projectionist" vibe to "Metalmania" and put a little more passion into the video selection, that would moving in the right direction.
Hate to say it, but they oughtta put Chump (Eddie Trunk) in charge of it. He would probably only half f*ck it up with too many Power Metal bands but at least we'd get his passion, as misguide as it can be at times. Anything would be better than how they handle it, or rather, don't handle it now. Just make sure you keep Chump off of the air, as you know he'd want to horn in on it.
But maybe, just maybe, he'd take it on purely as an archivist and just keep it all about getting the buried treasure out of the vaults, much of it not having seen the light of day in decades, and into the light once again. I'll ask Chump about it all when I see him on The Monsters of Rock Cruise in March!
And we'd get to see "Whitewolf" on TV once again.
p.s. In the meantime, thanks for postin' this lost treasure, for better or worse. I'll have to dust off my vinyl of the Rat Wolf (hahaha!!!, Scott) covered copy of "Endangered Species" once again, Rock-It, to hear which it is.
Licensing would probably prevent them from doing this but they should put all those videos on DVD and sell them like Time Life does with all the old music collections.
I would love to throw that in the DVD player and just let it run non stop!
About a decade ago on MTV2 they aired every video ever played on MTV in alphabetical order. Took about a month or so. After that you saw people selling VHS of hard rock/metal videos that had awesome content.
Metal Mania could be so much better if they quit playing the same 30 videos. I really do not need to see "Rainbow In The Dark" or "Wanted Dead or Alive" anytime soon.
p.s. Scott & Gary! I'm tellin' ya, as much as I'd like to agree with you, but lately, they've been mixing it up a bit more on Metalmania, but they could easily push it forward.
