Johnny Solinger, singer of Skid Row, tweeted this yesterday:
I'm honestly excited about this album. Skid Row is - and always has been - one of my bands, if you know what I mean. And I really love seeing them live, too. The new album is already up on Amazon for pre-order and less than seven bucks. While the album is only going to have five tracks, I'll take what I can get. I realize comparing the two versions is a fool's game. And this isn't a chance to slag Bolinger, who is a good singer or praise Bach (who is a good singer when he isn't a good drinker). But some bands have sounds that remind you too much of who they were and not enough of what they could be (and, when firing on all cylinders) are.
An interesting contrast is when Bush came into Anthrax. Not initially loved or acclaimed, but a good and different fit.
Full blown reunion. Only option
I never listened to this band after STTG and have no idea what they are like now. But if Bas was back, I would see them without a doubt.
And I know, like that clown told George Kostanza "You're living in the past, Man!"
I don't think Bach is a magical cure all in this situation. I also think Bolinger gets treated unfairly because he isn't Bach. Mashing together "Angel Down" Bach and the current SR isn't likely to mean a return to form for either, even if it would signal a rise in pay and a larger crowd for both. I just don't think it would mean you'd be getting STTG (1991) or even SR (1995) era SR. Which isn't an issue if you like all the other bands in all the other versions that keep soldiering on . . . sorta' like SR and Bach are doing right now.
Obviously, there is something about Bolinger that these guys (founders Sabo and Bolan) like as he has been in the band longer than Bach. And they seem happy enough playing with a lower pay and audience horizon right now. So I suppose that would also have to change.
And Affuso? He isn't that hard to find. He sided with Bach on the reunion issue in the past and has been doing well by himself (www.soulsystemorchestras.com) with his other ventures.
