Skid Row Preps New Record

Johnny Solinger, singer of Skid Row, tweeted this yesterday:

I'm honestly excited about this album. Skid Row is - and always has been - one of my bands, if you know what I mean. And I really love seeing them live, too. The new album is already up on Amazon for pre-order and less than seven bucks. While the album is only going to have five tracks, I'll take what I can get. Discuss.

Their first album with Solinger 'Thick Skin' was GREAT. But the follow up, 'Revolutions Per Minute' was a massive turd. Hopefully this one is good.

The snippet I heard reminds me of old SR (circa STTG), and that is partially the problem I have with new SR. I wish they had gone in a different direction, or, perhaps, adopted a different vocal style . . . and kept the harder sound.

I realize comparing the two versions is a fool's game. And this isn't a chance to slag Bolinger, who is a good singer or praise Bach (who is a good singer when he isn't a good drinker). But some bands have sounds that remind you too much of who they were and not enough of what they could be (and, when firing on all cylinders) are.

An interesting contrast is when Bush came into Anthrax. Not initially loved or acclaimed, but a good and different fit.

Don't like Johnny as a front man. Has LSD, while never being particularly famous or good. Too cocky for me. I know, I know bach can be pretentious. Big difference, he was part of a huge band and had millions throwing themselves at him.

Full blown reunion. Only option

What is up with the 5 song thing??? Why not wait and put out a whole CD???

I never listened to this band after STTG and have no idea what they are like now. But if Bas was back, I would see them without a doubt.

And I know, like that clown told George Kostanza "You're living in the past, Man!"

loved skid row back in the day. Still do but with this singer they are not the same. He cannot hit the notes. Oh well. Nothing new there. Reunion means a lot more money for the Skids and much more enjoyment for the fans.

Horrible, horrible stuff. This band is dead now. No Bach=No Skid Row

I will agree that Solinger is pretty bad as a singer and a frontman. I just never likes his whole vibe, really. If you follow him on Twitter and facebook, all he ever talks about is his horrible country stuff. Its like even he knows that he is in way over his head trying to sing those songs. A reunion is a necessity at this point. Sebastian's solo band is awful. They all need each other. Someone tell Rachel Bolan to get his head outta his ass, and somebody find Rob Affuso. LETS MAKE THIS SHIT HAPPEN!!!

Okay, so people don't like Bolinger. Fair enough. But is any of this a result of the other band members? Ozz mentions Bolan, which is a good point. And what about the uninspired lyrics or music?

I don't think Bach is a magical cure all in this situation. I also think Bolinger gets treated unfairly because he isn't Bach. Mashing together "Angel Down" Bach and the current SR isn't likely to mean a return to form for either, even if it would signal a rise in pay and a larger crowd for both. I just don't think it would mean you'd be getting STTG (1991) or even SR (1995) era SR. Which isn't an issue if you like all the other bands in all the other versions that keep soldiering on . . . sorta' like SR and Bach are doing right now.

Obviously, there is something about Bolinger that these guys (founders Sabo and Bolan) like as he has been in the band longer than Bach. And they seem happy enough playing with a lower pay and audience horizon right now. So I suppose that would also have to change.

And Affuso? He isn't that hard to find. He sided with Bach on the reunion issue in the past and has been doing well by himself (www.soulsystemorchestras.com) with his other ventures.

I think that Bach not being there makes it easier to blame someone for them not being as good as they were. Trouble is, no-one ever is. That's because no new music can compete with the music you grew up with and have listened to for 20 years.

ive seen both versions of skid row a couple of times and bach is def better but soll. didnt suck.as for recorded music the last skid row cd sucked major ass as did thickskin with bach, only one decent song on that cd into another. theres a clip on blabbermouth of the new skid row and honestly it isnt bad i was very surprised i was expecting the same garbage as the last one.

I prefer Sebastians solo shit over the new skid row. Angel Down is a phenomenal record you cant deny that. Kicking and Screaming wasnt as good as Angel Down, but it still beats anything Skid Row has released since Slave To The Grind. Ehh I gave the new Row a chance, ill give the new album a chance though.......
