Since We Just Talked About Queensryche...
Since we just talked about Queensryche... we might as well talk about Queensryche. By that, I naturally mean Geoff Tate's version. Geoff was caught performing with his version of the band in Illinois last Friday night.
Geoff's version of Queensryche released Frequency Unknown on April 23. It sold 5,500 copies in its first week... which was good enough to land at number 82 on the Billboard chart. That fact right there sort of astounds me... remember when bands had to sell just an absolute ton of albums to chart? Discuss.

Tate set himself up for this sort of reaction. At the same time, the rest of the band have left a lot to be answered in terms of the whys and whats of their career these past few decades. "Rising West" was an idea that they dropped. Tate is a singer that they got tired of dealing with in recent years.
It is easy for us to thrown stones (I do!). And Tate makes it easier than most. I just don't suppose that all the vitriol is deserved.
In an age where every performer mugs for every fan's cellphone shot you would think Tate would welcome being photographed. EVERY performer on The Monsters of Rock Cruise AND M3 were pausing out on the stage Runway so fans could take their shot.
At M3 just a couple of weeks ago, Michael Matejevic grabbed a fan's phone, but instead of throwing it like that prick Tate did, he turned away from the audience, snapped a shot of himself, with the crowd as his backdrop (amazingly, the Frank Gehry designed Merriweather Post Pavillion was packed and it wasn't even 2 PM yet).
Now, wouldn't that have been the smooth move Tate should have made at this show? Just as dramatic but way more positive.
What a joik!
p.s. Ace! "The Vest of Desperation". Love it! In fact, I think I've a few of those in my closet! BTW, I think I saw Tate's last performance with Queensryche at M3 last year. Well, I watched it on the closed circuit monitor from the VIP Deck and, as noted here in comments on BBG! by a few others that were there, that performance was HORRIBLE. I think he had just been told by he band it was his last gig and that he was fired right before they ent on. That seems weird and leads me to believe HIM's hunch there might be another side to this drama other than the one chastising Tate. That said, he's gotta be a weenus through in through as exemplified by the way he chucked that camera. Shame to see such a talent lost. Oh, and, good catch, Ace! I might not have noticed it had you not pointed it out.
