Tracii Guns Has A New Band

Tracii Guns has a new band called Gunzo. I'm not quite sure if this is more of a cover-band type project, or what. At any rate, Rudy Sarzo and Keith St. John are also members. Tracii is apparently still in Devil City Angels as well. Stayed tuned I guess!

It's Tracii's goal to play with every sideman who's come through LA in the last 30 years. By my calculations,he has 9 more to go,at which time he will change his name to "Biggie Fries", and start working his way through the hip hop community...

Anything to get Rudy away from that faux-Queensrhyche!

Don't worry...Tracii will quit this band within 6 weeks, pretty much like every other band he's sailed thru lately.

Thing is, he's a pretty decent guitar player, never reconnects with anybody he's played with in the past (Lost count!) Wasn't his son actually playing with him at one point? He couldn't even keep that together? Has to be a personality disorder!! I was actually looking forward to a Dilana thing......

NO. ONE. CARES. Sad that Rudy had so cred and class and has lowered himself to these D level bands,,Dude could and should be playing with a national act like The Scorpions

Tracii Guns is more than "a pretty decent guitarist", Darktown. I don't care if he winds up playin' Rascal Flatts, I'd probably go see him play. He Frickin' BURNS!

I bet Ace knows where the bodies are buried on this one. And Phil Lewis.

And Rudy Sarzo's played with every major frontman! I wish he would play steadily with a major act (are there any left?) like the band's he helped get big like Whitesnake or Quiet Riot (w/ Cavazo).

p.s. "Biggie Fries"! Hahaha!!! You're on a roll, Gary.

I am not sure, at this point, that Rudy is any different than Tracii. They both are in numerous bands, that either do not take off or or temporary or whatever. Maybe thats how it has to be in the musical landscape we are currently in for this type of music? Wherever there is a paycheck to be had. However it does seem like that Tracii maybe a cancer in any band....I think he thinks more of his talents than are actually there. Just an opinion.

He's lucky we remember his catchy name, because that's all he's got left.

Metalboy is correct. Tracii is a very talented guitarist.Same goes for Mr. Sarzo. Guy is a bottom end machine, and a showman to boot. That being said, they're all basically "hired guns" now (see what I did there? Lol) It's's like the bands we loved from back in the day are now consuming themselves and each other. Which is fine by me. These folks gotta eat just like we do. I read a review today from Sunday's Philly Inquirer about Sweet/Lynch's new release. The fact that it got a rave review is actually secondary to me. The fact it got reviewed AT ALL is what amazed me. 😎 A release like that usually would never sniff the light of day anymore in most critics eyes. So,to me at least, any exposure for the genre is great, regardless of what bastardized mix of musicians they threw together to record (or perform) it! Right Dee Snyder.......lol

On that note, Gary....bring back Widowmaker! Blood & bullets, pissin against the wind.

I got that Widowmaker stuff, BK. Man, if they had just had a few better songs.

Gary, good points all, particularly about Sweet/Lynch getting a write-up in The Philadelphia Enquirer!

What happened to that League of Gentlemen thing he was involved in? I kinda dug that psheudo psychedelic groove.

I, too, dug the LoG stuff, Bob. Shame that Guns has OCD and LGD and who knows what else. I think he got it by sharing a guitar with Lynch.

Listen to Guns and the rest of _Gunzo_--Guns and Sarzo, get it?--play "Crazy Train" in the vein of the live version that Ozzy released on _Tribute_:

That is pretty damn impressive. And St. John handles his job well; so well, in fact, that I only wish he had been chosen to front _Red Dragon Cancel_ (and I am not bagging on Smith's vox, understand his initial flub, and think he does well ... even if I don't think he fits the old material, and even if I suspect that Lee's demons aren't fully exorcised).

But the cracks are there already. St. John says this is just the previously announced reboot of _Tracii's L.A. Guns_. While I think there is some promise here, there has been a lot of promise before. St. John would be better off sticking with _Burning Rain_, unless, that is, Aldrich pulls a Guns and decides to focus on _Revolution Saints_ (another good band).

Still, in this environment, with all of these problems, and all of these players switching and changing and double-dipping, who knows?

It's a long way to the top . . .

[Sarzo? Fun to watch and clearly a legacy as well. He still hits that bass like it is going to make the hair dye fly off his head. Like a Greek tragedy, though, the circle of options is going to keep getting smaller and the chips in said legacy will grown bigger. Utility player, Sarzo is not. But he has to play one, it seems, to make ends meet and to keep his passion for music active.]

Him, my friend, all good points as per usual. As for Crazy Train covers, have you ever seen the one done by Living Loud? that was the project with basically the whole band that recorded the Blizard of Oz album, but with Steve Morse on guitar and Jimmy Barnes on vocals. Pretty cool stuff. Even at their advanced age, Kerslake and Daisley still make a formidable rhythm section.

Yeah, League of Gentlemen was great! What the hell happened? Uh, I guess I don't even really need to ask that.

I do like the fact that Guns didn't name this latest permutation Tracii's L.A. Guns.

I like the name GUNZO! A clever and fitting way for him to incorporate his name without putting it before the name of his old band or any band name, for that matter, which is the transparently cliché and completely narcissistic marketing way.

Thank you, Bob! Just checked out the live video on YouTube:

Never doubted that Kerslake and Daisley still had it (one thing that Ozzy couldn't steal from them), or that Airey is a talent unsung too often. Morse? Mighty fine and finally found his place on the last few DP albums.

But Barnes?!!? I have never heard of him before. He blew me away. In tune with the spirit of the song, but distinctive and engaging on his own. Where has this guy been? A quick scan of his credits suggests I need to acquaint myself with Cold Chisel (hell of a band name).

What a fantastic find. I hope others check this out too. Thanks again, Bob.

You're welcome, Him. glad you liked it. Barnes has been around forever. In fact, he turns 60 next year and still has amazing pipes.

Not that you will see it, but thanks again Bob. I really, really am liking what I am hearing from Barnes. Love it when this site points me in the right direction.

Cheers.
