Favorite Dad Rock Bands?

Happy Father's Day and happy first day of summer! Seems like a good day to play some videos for our favorite dad rock bands. I guess some people use the term dad rock as a put down, but I don't get it: usually it just means awesome classic rock bands. So here's some of my favorite "dad rock." Happy Sunday.

Boston - "More Than A Feeling"

REO Speedwagon "Can't Fight This Feeling"

Meat Loaf "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad"

And my Dad's favorite band was The Beatles! He also liked DEVO and and Green Day, the latter primarily because of "American Idiot". When I asked him why he like them, he said it's because they have a message. In the case of DEVO, "De-evolution", Green Day, a political point of view and, of course, The Beatles, who pretty much covered it all!

My dad is the reason I'm a rock fan!! Whether it was Steve Miller Band, Motley Crue, or Slayer. He has a pretty diverse taste, so I'll probably be listening everything in between Johnny Horton and Slipknot today. Happy fathers day!!!

I had never heard the term "Dad Rock" before... I'll go w/ Allyson's term that it just means "Awesome classic rock"... This being Father's Day, I'm reminded of how much my own father was supportive of my musical interests & how, when I was 8th grade, he not only drove me to see KISS on their "Dressed To Kill" tour, but sat outside & waited for me... on a school night! Thanks Dad!!! it changed my life! As for my own daughter, she's a Beatles fan... And last summer, that distant memory of how badly I wanted to go to that show directly influenced my decision to fly w/ my daughter & take her to Paul McCartney in Phoenix. It's neat to see how "the best night of my life" directly affected her "best night of her life" a generation later.

Hug your parents while they're still around kiddies, Some day they won't be. Happy Father's Day, all you parents... "If you didn't... They couldn't."

God bless Jack Sr. R.I.P. He loved everything from ABBA to ZZTOP. He would let JR play his cassettes while driving in his blue buick skylark! We always cranked KISS! No complaints from him even when listening to THE ELDER! Only 2 songs he didnt want to play was HELTET SKELTER AND F*CK LIKE A BEAST. Who can blame him? Miss ya POP!

Posted this in the wrong spot the first time. Ooops.

My Dad (RIP) was a huge music lover and I'm sure thats where I got it from. When I was born, my Dad was 50 so he was a lot older. He was an opera lover and didn't listen to Rock.

But he really loved music. He bought me a Sony Walkman and I was only the second kid in school to get one so that made me very cool. Thanks Dad. And I laugh every time I hear Lick It Up because that song used to drive him nuts. He'd never complain about anything else I cranked, except for that one song lol.

Miss you Dad.

My Father drove me and my friends to see Sammy Hagar and Krokus in 1984. oh, and did I mention that he had worked a 16-hour day in the factory that day? He actually fell asleep in his seat with all of that loud music around him. In his whole life, he has only said the words, "I love you" to me once, but he said it countless times with actions like that one.
